Having picked up the extended trilogy on Bluray previously, I didnt expect that much of an uptick on my OLED TV; however, the change in 4K quality is significant imo if you have the equipment for it and pay attention to that sort of thing. If you are reading this review then you probably do. Definitely recommend for LOTR fans!

Aside from the amazing picture quality and detail like you’ve never seen, the real standout is the Dolby Atmos sound. From the Nazgul flying around your head in the return of the king, to just basic dialog in the mines of Moria that reverb all around you. You are transported to middle earth. Worth every penny. Box set is classic cardboard so nothing special with the packaging

Excellent 4K. Expensive but its reference quality 4K..plus you get theatrical and extended versions both in 4k. The odd thing is I had to have the guy get one in the back as they weren't even on the shelves.

I thought this trilogy couldn't get any better but I was wrong. Watching these movies in 4K with Dolby Vision is life changing. The quality is superb. The only complaint I have is the packaging could be better. The disks fall out easily because they're squishing 9 disks into this and the clips are not strong enough.

The picture quality is simply stunning. I am able to stream this online in Dolby Vision or play it in the Xbox with the DVD. I was pleasantly surprised that streaming it was actually better than the 4K UHD on the DVD. The audio is also a major upgrade it sounded amazing on my 7.1.2 sound bar. Now I need to watch the extended versions

It had been awhile since I had seen LOTR. After watching it I realized that everyone in this movie is just blazed the whole time. Always ripping their bowls. But who could blame them? That grass in the shire looked like straight fire!

    Huge Upgrade over the Blu-rays

You know the films by now. They're all great. The real question is whether the 4K upgrade from the previous blu-rays is worth it. The short and simple answer is yes. Everything is noticeably crisper with the upgrade in resolution and the inclusion of HDR & Dolby Vision is welcomed. Highly Recommended!

The Pros: The best possible picture and sound for one of the greatest film franchises of all time! This set includes both the Theatrical and Extended Editions! The cons: Even on sale, this set is VERY expensive. While the theatrical films are each on a single disc, each of the extended editions are once again split between 2 discs (just as they were on DVD and Blu-ray releases.) Unlike most 4k movie sets, there NO regular blu-ray discs included. There are also ZERO special features, appendices or featurettes in this set, so if those are important to you, hold onto you blu-ray copy.

I've owned just about every version this has been on from DVD to BD and now 4K. It looks absolutely amazing if you have the equipment it's designed for. Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos really bring it up a notch and they took great care in retaining the original film elements while mastering for 4K. A must for fans!

After redeeming the digital copy in my Movies Anywhere account I reconnected that to my iTunes account and then when I looked at my movie collection in iTunes , the extended edition copies of the movies had an option called "Extras" which included the appendices! Pretty sweet surprise! I will agree with the other reviewers that the case barely holds the discs because the plastic rings are probably the flimsiest I have ever seen. Cant wait to watch in 4K!

My favorite movie in 4K UHD - what's more to say? Case is solid and can hold multiple discs, just make sure to open the case gently the first time so that any loose disks don't drop and get scratched. Make sure to watch it soon after buying to make sure the movies play all the way through, otherwise you can ask for a replacement.

Must have for any LOTR fan with a proper home theater system. A few scenes look a little bit waxy but not distracting. The Dolby Atmos track is enveloping and dynamic and Howard Shore's soundtrack pulls you into the world. The Nazgul flying overhead and arrows make great use of Atmos height channels

The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy [Extended/Theatrical] [4K Ultra HD Blu-ray] is an outstanding collection! The 4K rendering of this epic and monumental trilogy is visually crisp with great high dynamic range. Snowy scenes and dark scenes are both brought wonderfully to life. The vivid details are a sight to be seen.

If you are a LOTR fan this is the version to have. The 4K remastering is beautiful and just pulls you in more to the magic of Middle Earth. Dolby Atmos engulfs you in sound and adds a dimension unlike the previous releases, all of which I have. While some have mentioned glitches in the video, my copy is flawless.

I own the original DVD extended edition in the amazing leather bound style books, with the mail-order case for all three. It looks amazing. But this set looks even more amazing on screen. It was worth the trade for the flimsy case (knock one star off for that) to be able to see this in 4K HDR. The difference is noticeable and the story comes to life even more. Not only that, but you can choose the theatrical version or extended version, depending on if you are doing a casual watch or going for a full binge fest.something I didn’t have before.

One UHD to rule them all...

Excellent UHD release but as good as the 4K resolution gets, the real winner is the HDR color grading. You notice shades you hadn't before. Those who remember having to double-dip on the blu-ray when the extended versions came out will be relieve that this release has both the theatrical and extended versions of all three movies.

Overall, the LOTR 4k upgrade is impressive. There are scenes (mostly in the latter 2 movies) that look and feel like they were just produced this year. Fellowship has a few moments that still feel old, original, dated. But on the whole, this looks fantastic and fresh. Very impressive and well worth it!

I was amazed at how much better the picture and sound were after watching Peter Jackson discuss what it took to bring the set to 4K. If you are a fan of LOTR and have a 4K setup, then this is a must own collection
