The first season was good. This second season is better. The interweaving of mysteries with developing personal stories is more complex. Those personal stories develop themes laid in series one and are themselves more complex. Madame Blanche is putting down roots in the community. The French police expand her consultancy on antiques into something closer to a partnership. Writers, directors, and actors are all more comfortable with characterizations. Each episode’s mystery is interesting for itself. I particularly enjoyed the Faberge and the predator husband episodes. The attention to little details of setting and scene remains excellent. The show looks like it’s characters’ personalities as well as what I image the rural south of France to be. All in all, season two improves on season one. My only complaint is the subtitles for French passages blend into colors of the scene too often.
