A 1962 western with a somewhat novel plot starring John Wayne, James Stewart, Vera Miles and Lee Marvin. Well acted by all and worth seeing but not a real eye opener.

A wonderful movie, with legendary actors. I only wish there was some special features on the disc.

The whole premise of this film is fantastic. This movie shows us what happens when the Legend becomes Fact. So many of the beloved Legends of the Old West (John Wesley Hardin, Billy the Kid, Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday) are just that-- legends, until you find the actual facts behind their lives. Sure, these people did mighty and legendary things. But as the newspaper editor in the movie says, "When the Legend becomes Fact, print the Legend." This movie is so well directed, photographed, and acted. Jimmy Stewart is brilliant as Ransom Stoddard, the man credited with shooting the outlaw Liberty Valance, played by Lee Marvin. John Wayne as Tom Doniphon, well, was typically himself-- fabulous to watch. Vera Miles lights up the screen with her portrayal of the beautiful Hallie, who falls in love with two different men, the gentle Ransom and the rough and tumble Tom. I cannot find anything wrong with this remarkable film. It is a masterpiece.

The greatest western of all time hands down. The first time I saw this film I was blown away. The storytelling is so firm. A flawless film that anyone interested in the genre can tell you is timeless and anyone who hasn't needs to see it.
