    An Incredible Story of Survival

The Martian puts a new twist on the "survival after accident in space" story. Mistakenly left for dead on the surface of Mars by his crew mates, astronaut/biologist Mark Watney (ably played by Matt Damon) must solve a myriad of problems to have any hope of survival and, ultimately, rescue. Meanwhile, the folks back on Earth, and in the Mars-Earth spacecraft, have to solve just as many problems to mount a rescue mission with only the slimmest hopes of success. An excellent script, top-notch photography, a terrific cast, and brilliant directing by one of America's best (Ridley Scott) make this an adventure not to miss!

I loved the original theatrical version of this movie, with a great performance by Matt Damon. It's a great story about the future, space, science, and perseverance. I think it's my favorite movie and re-watch it all the time. So when they came out with this extended version with new scenes it was a no brainer to upgrade my version. For most fans the original version is good enough, but if you're a die-hard fan of this story like I am, then the additional few scenes are a nice bonus.

I usually enjoy Sci-Fi movies. I hadn't had the chance to see this movie in theaters though I wanted to when all my friends and family raved about it. That's why I bought this despite not knowing much about it. I knew it was possibly more "serious" than something like Star Wars, of course. I didn't know what to expect really, but I was so pleasantly surprised when I actually got the chance to see this! The video and audio were both fantastic with this Bluray and on my TV at home. The movie itself had just about the perfect amount of tension, drama, comedy, and heart throughout. And space is always a plus.

Unlike the many sci-fi films that Hollywood seems to spew out like molten lava, The Martian actually has an interesting storyline that will keep viewers engaged throughout. Some plot improbabilities aside, and like Gravity there are a good number, Matt Damon holds things together in this mostly one-character film. The visuals are absolutely stunning and the Martian landscape is as "real" as I have ever seen it portrayed in films. Even if you have seen this one in the theater, as I did, the home experience is even better, provided one has the player and display to do it justice.

Completely worth every dollar. The fidelity is amazing and the color gamut in this world of extreme darkness, lit only by the holodeck, and amazing red sand with shots back to earth is all shown off wonderfully. If you're looking to try out your new OLED, I watched this on my LG C1 in filmmaker mode (as the maker intended) and it was eye watering, just enough to salvage for the potatoes.

I'm not sure what all I can say about this movie. It has great acting, a fun script, and a tension underlying it that helps keep your attention. If I had to say anything bad about it, I'd mention that it has a pretty long runtime. If you're a fan of the book, I'll mention that this is a pretty close replication of the book. There is at least one key scene that was in the book but not in this release I think should have been. But I expect that are in the extended cut instead. Overall I was very happy with the movie. Just make sure you set up a block of time to watch it.

This is a stunning 4K disc; I personally enjoy Ridley Scott's films so having such a rich image only enhances the experience for me. If you're an audiophile, you'll love the Atmos audio track on this disc. The Martian Extended Edition sets up a very rich and vibrant sound stage and you'll enjoy the workout your setup gets with this movie. A definite must-have for 4K/film enthusiasts

I wasn't actually expecting much from it, but it is a phenomenal movie. If Damon doesn't win best actor, there is something very, very wrong. One of the best things about it is the treatment of science. There are some fantastical elements but, for the most part, it's based on real science and it's not over-explained. If you know what a hexadecimal number system is, great, if not, you'll still enjoy the movie just fine. One of the biggest surprises is Donald Glover. It's a very small role, but he steals every scene he's in. I honestly don't know what type of person WOULDN'T enjoy this movie.

This film was shot natively in 3D. Compositions were pre-planned from the start and you can tell because every shot makes great use of depth. You'll see depth in the beautiful Martian landscape, HUDs (Heads-Up Displays) are given visual life, and planetary storms will make you feel like you're in the middle of it. This is one of the must-watch (3D) films of 2015, and a truly enjoyable movie experience. Highly recommended. Unfortunately, at this time, there isn't a 4K HDR extended 3d version. In 4k HDR it almost looks 3D on an OLED tv. Spectacular cinematography.

Was totally entertained by Matt Damon being in yet another scenario where he needed to be saved. I really enjoyed the fact that the hero in this story is nerdy and could actually portray science in a funny, relatable and inspiring way. The movie was well made and the visuals did not disappoint on my new 4K TV; makes me kind of wonder what the 4K version of the movie would have looked like. Like most formats these days there was a digital copy. I am a little surprised that a regular DVD was not included as well especially at the cost of $24.99 but I got mine on sale so not a big deal.

I had enjoyed The Martian when I originally saw the movie at the theater. When I noticed the price was less than $20, with an "Extra's" DVD, I knew I had to buy it. I enjoy the Extra's, as they usually have deleted scenes, and a "Making of" as part of it. I like to see how the Director ended up with the finished product. Plus, they avoided the mistake they made with Tom Hanks and "Cast Away"...an hour of watching him talk to a volley ball! They had scenes with Damon on Mars, with what they were doing on Earth to rescue him.

This was a well acted and well thought out story. You can tell that when they wrote it and filmed it that they had experts from NASA and JPL as a part of the process. For a serious movie Matt Damon also shows a comedic side to things. The fact that he is alone for most of the film and he has a running monologue with himself it's not depressing like castaway. I feel for him and his plight and I'm rooting for him and his ingenuity and humor in a situation that would have driven most people insane, yet he was believable. I enjoyed this and will watch this many times.

I knew I wanted to see this film as soon as it was released in theatres, and i wasn't disappointed one bit. It's a great movie...one of the finest of 2015. Matt Damon won a Golden Globe for his perfomance..and deservedly so. The 3-D Blu-ray presentation is every bit the equal of the one I saw in the theatre, and the DTS-MA 7.1 Audio has been called by some reviewers one of the finest presentations you'll hear all year. I'd be very inclined to agree. Simply put, this movie is a must-see. The 3-D Blu-Ray presentation is exemplary, as well. Don't hesitate to pick up this disc ASAP.
