Matt Damon does an excellent job at being an astronaut and exploring Mars.

This is one of those "thinking man" sci-fis that although there are numerous special effects, the film never leaves the boundaries of credibility into absurdity. Great use of humor to set up surprises of tension and suspense. Ridley Scott was born to direct sci-fi.

Ridley Scott returns to form with an actual Science Fiction adventure, that is not only spectacular to behold visually, but is also a thrilling survival procedural tethered to real hard science. Thrilling, funny, and super cool, this is one of the better movies of the last few years, and along with Interstellar one of the best scifi movies of the decade. Epic and poignant, with a terrific leading performance from Matt Damon, this movie is so terrific you won't even mind having to put up with Jeff Daniels and his obnoxious hang-dog acting.

Great story with Matt Damon in top form. Production values are excellent.

This is one of the smartest and most entertaining science-fiction films I've seen in a very long time. It is one of those rare films that transcends the genre to become beloved by people who normally don't like science-fiction at all. If you liked "Apollo 13", you will like this picture every bit as much. It only goes to prove that being intelligent and scientifically accurate does not automatically make a film boring. Riveting from the start of the film all the way up to it's very exciting climax. Nominated for Best Picture of the Year (and deserving of the nomination).

I bought this movie to play on my Xbox One S, which features a 4K DVD player. Which, of course, is hooked up to my 4K TV. Using this setup, the visual quality of this movie really cannot be described; it was that "OMG" impressive. However, the price of 4K DVD movies will likely prevent me from buying anymore 4K movies, at least until the price comes down considerably. So, would I recommend this to a friend? No, because 30 bucks is way, way too much to pay for a DVD movie. Having said that, if you can rent a 4k movie AND have an Xbox one S AND a 4k TV, do it!

Bought this film on a blind buy; I was nervous because I find Ridley Scott films to be hit-or-miss for me. This one was excellent. It is essentially a survival story set on Mars where science and scientists are the hero. The image and sound were excellent. The special features were ok - I was expecting a director's commentary but none was to be found. Very recently, in an interview, a special edition was stated to be in the works for release later in 2016. So, perhaps waiting at this point may be better. But I plan on double-dipping then because this film was excellent.

So, this is a great example of a superb movie with superb 4k content, HDR effects, and Dolby Atmos sound. All I can say is that I have watched this movie about 6 times now just to adore the quality of the video - yes, I am a nerd. Video is crisp and clean AND sharp. Sound is top-notch. The movie drama itself keeps you wanting more, even though you would think it should be slow, because of a lone guy on Mars. All I can say is GET IT. Pay the money for the 4k version, enjoy the beautiful HDR content, and be immersed in the Dolby Atmost or DTS:X sound field.

Upscaled 2k is still beautiful! Absolutely lovely movie as well.

I seldom buy DVD's. There are very few movies that I want to own. This is an exception. I purchased this after watching the movie on HBO. First it surprised me. It was not what I was expecting. My wife wanted to watch it and my reaction was . . . trapped on Mars. What an interesting concept! I watched it and enjoyed it. Between the science, the drama and the humor the Martian told a compelling story of survival and optimism. It was not a comedy, nor was it a story about a hero. It was a story of a human being that excepts where he is at and copes.

Good sci-fi movie. Got for less price. Matt Damon did great job.

This movie Lives up to expectations. Movie lovers would enjoy.

Its obvious that everyone on the planet [pun intended] knows this was a good movie. My only comment is that like most movies that had a book out prior to the movie is that the book was much FUNNIER with all of Matt's comments that he made to his "journal" log. So if you want to see ALL of the things he went through to survive and see his funny comments, you have to read the book. The movie had to leave many many parts out, so you miss those things.

Matt damon it good as always. Good movie and moves at a decent pace.

Special effects of the movie are good. Looks stunning in 4k

Assuming the majority of the technical math and science details in the witnessing of this interesting and compelling profile of a stranded, yet very survival crafty astronaut on distant Mars, are factual, this is an excellent depiction and portrayal for today's future math and science majors hopefuls. If computer engineering or high-tech math is in your child's future, you absolutely must view this movie with him or her while discussing our destiny through high-end science. A great movie just watch and behold!

No, seriously, buy this movie and bring it home. I saw this in the theater in 3D, as well as digital... when it came out on 4K I had to get it. Everything just POPS. Incredible detail, special effects, and a believable performance by all involved. I've seen it about a dozen times now, and it still doesn't get old. The addition of the extended versions helps give some back story to a couple areas in the film. While not necessary, it helps explain some things so it's a nice addition. Highly recommend this movie. :)

Great movie and I would highly recommend. I would buy it again.

Saw this movie in the theater and loved it. A coworker enjoyed the book immensely and hoped the movie would be just as good. He was enthusiastic at how well done the movie was. The Blu-ray did an excellent job of maintaining the impressive sound of the theatrical release. The video is great and again, the sound on a more capable system, is amazing. I would not call this movie a comedy as the Oscar committee did but the plot, acting, special effects and cinematography are fantastic. I was not disappointed by this movie at the theater or at home.
