To start off, this movie looks phenomenal in general for the movie alone. The setting is great, and the overall movie works great as a standalone. When it comes to the 4k aspect of this movie, the colors really come out at you in a way that even blu-ray quality doesn't. Sure, the lines start to blur with the new addition of 4k. One can really see the difference if they walk up to the screen to see how close the pixel density really is. A great extended movie combined with the 4k package!

This blu-ray is definitely worth the price. The steelbooks cover art is beautiful, and the extended scenes are not extremely noticeable if you're not a huge fan of the original film. If you are, however, some scenes add detail and content thats worth a second watch. Not extremely important scenes, but ones that add great detail to an already detailed film. It also has the theatrical version of the film, and some really good special features. Definitely worth the buy.

I had purchased and read the book, The Martian, quite some time ago. I was not disappointed buying the movie. Hollywood did well bringing my vision to the screen. Because of language in a few spots I would watch around younger viewers, which is a shame because of the fascinating science involved in the story line. This story is about the human experience in our quest to reach out in space and what could happen. I highly recommend this set for the film and the extras on the second disk.

The 4K is a very noticeable polish to the picture.

Matt Damon has been in quite a few good movies (Ocean's Eleven, The Bourne Identity, etc) but The Martian gives them all a run for their money. It's smart, believable (many on the internet thought that we had really been to Mars after the movie came out), and very well written. I haven't read the book, but the book is usually better than the film so it must be a pretty awesome book. I also liked that the movie didn't end like most "Space Exploration" movies do. I'll leave it at that.

My wife wanted to see this and so we went to the theater and we were so happy that it was money well spent. There are some movies we feel we wasted time and money with, but The Martian was great. Great cast, acting, story, directing, and loved the ending. I do not like to ruin films when I review them, so all I will say is that Ridley Scott is a genius director and Matt Damon is great with some humor, guts, and emotion all in one character. In my opinion it is the best mainstream movie of the year.

I had not heard much about this movie except for the ads on TV and that it was up for an Oscar. I went in thinking it was going to be very depressing, along the lines of Cast Away and Robinson Crusoe. Was I in for a surprise. My wife, visiting daughter and myself found it to be very entertaining and quiet humorous. A great study in what a positive attitude can do. One of the few movies I will watch again so that I can pick up on all the things I missed while concentrating on the total story line.

Great story, great acting (Damon really carries it, which is good as most of the time it's just him), and great visuals, making for a great film. Even with Damon's standout performance, carrying the film during his solo scenes, the rest of the cast is great. Despite the limited settings on Mars (barren martian landscape, rover, or station interior), the scenes never get old or boring. Great sale price one box with three formats: Blu-ray, DVD, and digital.

I always buy 3D movies. And THE MARTIAN deserves to be seen in 3D. It helps the movie. Especially if the story, and 3D effects are good. It's long but it's a good movie with great effects. Director Ridley Scott has done it again! And Damon is getting better each time as an actor. I can see why he's nominated. As for the price and availability, BEST BUY has the perfect name: BEST BUY! Which its true. I always buy my blurays/DVDs/3D blurays at Best Buy! The price is the lowest or they will match anybody's price. I've been a BEST BUY customer since Best Buy opened near me in October 2000, and reward member since 2009. I buy one to 4 items every week. Thanks,Best Buy! Good movie. Keeps the story pace going, save for some lagging in the earth-bound scenes and dialog. Nice mixture of science-fact with some exciting sci-fi action. Sort of reminiscent of the late 1950s/early 1960s moon mission movies that were based on known science at the time. Of course, for us today this one is more realistic due to numerous space missions already in our history. Some profanity throughout, not heavy usage, no violence, no erotic situations. Fine for 10-12 years and older.

I'm a big Matt Damon fan and enjoy the combination of suspense and humor (the latter definitely takes the edge off the former at times). The story line was plausible and the special effects were amazing, to say the least. I got the Blu-ray format and once again the clarity of picture and the stunning sound enhanced every aspect of this fine film...and the additional minutes really fleshed out the whole story, as well. All told, I'm really glad I waited to purchase this version!

“The Martian 3D” arrives on blu-ray with MPEG-4 MVC 1080p 2.40:1 encode. Ridley Scott uses a lot of the expansive backgrounds filling each shot with plenty of foreground, middle-ground, and far distance objects to give an incredible three-dimensional sense of depth. During the initial sandstorm, one notices little bits of grit float up at the screen. The placement of foreground and background objects also gives a greater sense of depth and dimension. This is an enjoyable 3D experience.

Initially, I thought I wouldn't like this movie because the previews didn't do it justice. But after renting so I could decide if it was worth buying, I had to have this movie! This movie was great! Matt Damon was really great in this movie and did the comedic parts of the movie very well. There are so many parts of the movie I liked. I won't spoil for those who have not seen this movie. The extended edition had about 10 minutes more than the other version.

I'm a hard-science science fiction fan and would rather read hard sc-fi than almost anything. I love stories and movies about Mars, and I'm a fan of survival, castaway, and man-against-the elements stories. I loved Robinson Crusoe, so it should not surprise you that I loved the movie, Robinson Crusoe on Mars. I realize it's not Academy Award material, but to me, it's everything I want it to be, as was this book, The Martian.

I first saw The Martian in the theater in 2D, loved every minute of it. When it came time to buy it for myself I thought that 3D would be novel but would not really make the movie more fun. I was wrong on that. The scenery on Mars, including some dust devils I missed on the big screen were beautifully rendered. Ridley Scott certainly has the 3D vision worked out - it's not just a 2D movie with depth, he uses it to tell the story. Treat yourself to the 3D, you'll be happy you did.

This was one of a rare breed. A movie adaptation of a book that lived up to the promise of the book! I highly recommend the book, and the movie. Either are excellent on their own, but together, they make for a great experience. While it is impossible to place everything that happened in the book into the movie, what was left out does not detract in any way. This movie stayed true to the story. If you are a fan of SCIENCE and fiction, this movie (and the book) are a must have.

I was late to this party and missed the movie while it was showing theaters. Being a lifelong fan of sci-fi films, the combination of a good story and the genius of Ridley Scott at the helm had me really looking forward to this blu-ray for a while. As an added bonus, the steelbook was only $15 when I finally picked it up-- What a bargain!! A great movie and another sharp looking steelbook now sitting on my shelf- really pleased with my Best Buy purchase!

Bought the Martian in $ k Ultra Blu Ray other day at Best Buy but went over to A friends house to watch it in 4 K Ultra . He had just purchased A week earlier A Samsung 4 K Ultra Hi Def Blu Ray player. It was AMAZING to watch. The picture was way way beyond what I expected. I am going to buy My own Samsung Ultra Hi Def player in A couple of months. This is Really worth buying !

The Martian, which is essentially Castaway on Mars, is an entertaining and emotionally powerful film about the human spirit and overcoming the impossible. Matt Damon is fantastic and Ridley Scott is back in top Directing form. The extended edition doesn't add any real revelations to this excellent film, but the excised scenes are certainly worth seeing. If your going to buy the movie anyway, go for the extended edition as it includes both versions of the film.

First time I seen this movie it was in really bad resolution & sound quality due to streaming on a poor internet connection. I wanted to experience it again on my home theatre with Blu-ray Disc. I got lucky and found the steelbook version instore for 17 bucks. Can't go wrong. The steelbook itself it's absolutely gorgeous and the movie didn't disappoint seeing it again in high def audio & visuals. Highly recommend if you haven't seen!
