This is a great movie, directed by Ridley Scott with a stellar cast led by Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain and Jeff Daniels. It's an exciting sci-fi adventure in the not too distant future, and presents believable scenarios given what we know. I thoroughly enjoyed The Martian in the theater, and am glad to have it in my home collection to watch whenever we want.

Great movie, came with digital HD code too, real plus. What was really a surprise and made this purchase worth it was the bonus material: interviews, casting and costumes, and more, my favorite was a faux news special about what actually happened with mission control personale in NASA. Nice touch. Also, the disk had SPA, ENG, FRN, audio tracks! This Blu-Ray really has the right...what's that stuff? Oh well.

I liked "The Martian". It was a great movie and an even better book. Unlike a lot of 'Extended" editions, the additional 10 min adds a lot to the story, especially if you have read the book. But the real treat was moving from a standard Blu-ray to UHD Blu-ray. On a movie of this scale, with vast panoramas, the higher resolution and increased dynamic range really add to the experience, especially on a larger screen.

I read the book before I knew it would be made into a movie and the very first lines in chapter 1 screamed for Matt Damon to be cast as Astronaut Mark Watney. About 3 weeks after reading the book I saw a preview and couldn't wait to see it. Very well done movie. One of the best pieces of pure Science FIction work I have read or seen in years. After seeing the film there was never a question of whether or not to buy a copy for my library. I want more like this.

When astronauts blast off from the planet Mars, they leave behind Mark Watney (Matt Damon), presumed dead after a fierce storm. With only a meager amount of supplies, the stranded visitor must utilize his wits and spirit to find a way to survive on the hostile planet. Meanwhile, back on Earth, members of NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring him home, while his crew mates hatch their own plan for a daring rescue mission.

This movie was far better than I thought it would be. I thought there was a risk that "The Martian" would have too much in common with "Cast Away". Fortunately this movie was more than just a film gets stuck in the middle of nowhere with no one to talk to. This film was bolstered by a lot of comedy and was able to engage you by showing what he was going to have to do to get home. I found it interesting that he essentially had to rescue himself in many ways.

Read the book before I saw the movie. Enjoyed the book & the movie. Why some people thought of it as a comedy is beyond me. IT IS NOT A COMEDY. There are some comic moments but that's because this astronaut is in dire straights being abandoned on planet Mars & has to keep a positive attitude in order to survive. That aside, this is a great film & story. It is so realistic that you will forget that we haven't yet landed humans on Mars. Recommended to all!

What a great film, despite the fact that we are rescuing Matt Damon, yet again...;), hahaha. Seriously though, great blu-ray delivery. Picture quality is fantastic, really sharp & detailed, even in the nighttime scenes of the film. Sound quality, as most often on BR, is stellar. My only gripe is that a steelbook was not released for this, that would've been a neat one to add to the collection. Other than that, another solid turnout from Ridley Scott & co.

When I went to see this movie at the theater I was hopeful. When it ended I had so many feeling going through me. I was mesmerized, astounded, joyous and elated to see such a great movie. This is a movie about our trip to Mars and the challenges we encounter. It is about the life of one astronaut who is left behind and all the things he needs to do and come up with to survive 2 years, before we are able to rescue him. I definitely recommend this movie!!

Although this movie was a Oscar favorite and thus nominated for best picture of the year I did not find it to be as good as the Academy did. The movie has an interesting plot and had lots of factual knowledge and technology used in the making of this movie. and it also had good acting and great production values, however it had a lot of the same problem I had with the movie, "Gravity". That problem is that it is hard for one actor to carry nearly most of the movie. Although there were more actors involved with this movie than in "Gravity", it still rests mainly on Matt Damon's acting ability and although his acting was good I found myself several times looking at my watch to see how much longer was left before they finally rescued his character.

I loved the theatrical version of this movie, and had already bought it on Blu-Ray. That being the case, I was hesitant to throw down more dollars so soon for an extended release, but I trusted that Ridley Scott would not just go through the motions of creating another release that did not add something significant, and my trust was validated. After seeing this version of the movie, I miss these new scenes when watching the theatrical version!

I remember reading a review of the movie while it was still in the theaters that said the formula for a great movie is to take Matt Damon, put him in jeopardy, and then see what he does. In this case I would have to agree with them. The action is great, there are some pretty entertaining comedy sections. Your constantly torn between feeling for this guy who is stuck on mars with no real hope for survival and the human drive to survive no matter what.

The Martian is one of the best movies of 2015. The story is riveting in its technical details but more importantly the human aspect of a man's loneliness and ability to survive against all odds. Matt Damon plays the part very well, displaying the depths of emotion from fear to anger to hope to joy. The movie does not have the detail that the book does, but manages to incorporate the important parts of the book and follows the book surprisingly well.

If you're looking for little green men to pop out then this is not the movie for you. The Martian takes an interesting look at the inner workings of what NASA or other space programs may one day encounter. If we're ever able to physically reach Mars of course. Moving story, you really feel for the poor guy. But seeing as its about space, and it's not star wars, it can drag a little. Space is a very lonely place. Great movie to me though.

We enjoyed the movie from the beginning to the end. Humor throughout. We bought the 3D combo, I'd have to say the 3D feature doesn't really give any extra to the viewing. Yes, you can see the 3D affect throughout but, there really isn't the WOW effect that you look for in 3D movies. I feel that 3D movies play well in movies with action and the look of things "coming out at you." I highly recommend the movie but 3D isn't necessary to fully enjoy it.

The Martian is a very enjoyable and realistic movie. The science in the movie is not "science fiction", as everything depicted including the technology is all achievable today. The Blu-ray video quality was flawless, and the extra features included were high quality and entertaining to watch (not the typical lame/fluff items which pass for bonus content nowadays). Great cast directed by Ridley Scott -- I enjoy just about anything by this director.

This was an excellent movie. I would recommend it to everyone. The dialogue is serious and funny, and Matt Damon pulls it all of very well. The story line was very good, and this reality of people from earth travelling to Mars in the next 20+ years is definitely a possibility. The book this movie is based on was excellent. And a large portion of the book made the screenplay. Do not miss this. The 3D was good, but the movie in Blue-ray is too.

In my opinion, one of the best movies of all time, with man in a seemingly hopeless situation. But man prevails through his wits, cleverness and friends back home. Also, pretty scientifically accurate. Even better, it was on sale and Best Buy sent me a $5 coupon. All this for $9.99!

The is a new edition of the ordinal movie with some extra sceans included. Some of the extra part are just a few minutes and not very noticeable, and some are very noticeable. Worth watching even if you have seen the other version. This movie is about a man who gets stuck on Mars after the rest of his team have to make an emergency departure, and everything me has to go throu to survive. An amazing movie.

With the release of the "Extended Edition", this fine film got even better. Now, in 4K UHD, it has gotten better still! The HDR (High Dynamic Range) makes the martian landscapes "pop" like never before. From the sand that you feel like you can almost reach out and touch, to the brilliance of lighting highlights glinting off helmets, to the glow of displays and control panels, this experience is intoxicating. If you love this film (and you have a 4K TV capable of displaying the disc's HDR in all it's glory) this 4K bluray is a disc you will REALLY love viewing! The 4K "Extended Edition" also includes the theatrical edition in 4K with HDR and allows you to select which version you prefer to watch.
