The Blu-ray version of this movie has some of the best additional content that I have seen. There is a documentary-style special feature that tracks the lives of all the major characters in the movie for some few years after the return of Hermes 3 and Watney. There are some surprises and interesting additional story lines that are revealed that were truly fun to watch. Would recommend the Blu-ray version if you are a true fan of the Martian.

Matt Damon gives a wonderful performance in this movie about an astronaut stranded alone on Mars and his attempts to stay alive until he can be rescued. The movie, much like Gravity, gives the viewer a very realistic feeling of what it must feel like to be isolated in space or anywhere else for that matter. Damon was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance. Excellent sci-fi movie that gives you a good feeling when he is rescued.

Obviously I'm going to say the book was better. That's how it always works. However, this movie is nothing short of amazing. The visuals are breath taking (for a desert planet) and the comedy just keeps on rolling in through one of my favorite actors, Matt Damon. This isn't so much a sci-fi suspense movie as it is a lesson in humanity, the strength of the human mind, and the hilarity that can come from being the only man alive on a planet.

Ridley Scott gives us the best movie of his recent career. If you like Apollo 13 you will like this movie. This movie is a celebration of being smart and trying to be more than what we are. In terms of its special effect the movie makes you feel like you are mars. There are few special features and they are pretty decent. overall if you want a movie that will make you proud of what we can do and what space travel is about see this movie.

The martian in and of itself is a great movie all by itself, but this extended edition makes it better by adding even more scenes that were cut for screen time. Also, Best Buy is the only place that I know of that sells physical copies of the Martian. It's is definitely a must-buy. I love the Martian and I love Best Buy for selling me the Martian and all the extra things that just adds to the experience.

Matt Damon proves that he is interesting enough to be in a movie about the perfect survivor. Director Ridley Scott does a very creditable job of making us believe that what happens, could happen, and a human could be left behind on an alien planet to forage for himself and survive the ordeal with grace and humor, while the eyes of the world next door are on him. This is definitely a fun, upbeat movie with no excruciating scenes of embarrassment and humiliation anywhere. I think Jeff Daniels portrayal as the head of NASA is very well done, well scripted and well acted. Unfortunately, there just aren't enough car crashes to make it 5 star worthy. That's a joke. See it; its the perfect family movie. .

I thought this was going to be another version of the movie Gravity from Sandra Bullock -- and I really did not enjoy that movie. After months of my husband asking to rent it, we finally did and it DEFINITELY surpassed all of my expectations. It was engaging, funny, had suspenseful moments and even a few nerd references. We went out and bought the movie the next day -- I firmly believe that EVERYONE should see this movie, its great.

A friend recommended that I read The Martian. It was a great read. I couldn't wait to see the movie. I recently purchased The Martian Blu-ray DVD from Best Buy. The movie is just as good as the book. There are some parts from the book that were left out, but the story line is the same. You will be rooting for the astronaut in all of his trails and tribulations. I highly recommend this DVD for anyone looking for a great movie weekend.

I had initially owned this copy when it came out. I'd sold the 3D set when I bought the Extended Edition (10 minutes of extra footage) but I realized that the tradeoff wasn't worth it. I'm not sure why the Extended version doesn't have a 3D copy anywhere. Bought this copy again and sold the Extended because the 3D is probably the best I've personally seen (IMO). This is a treat that I'm quite glad to have in my collection.

This is one of my favorite movies. It is fun to watch and it also very exciting. The story is good and the acting of the whole cast is outstanding. I believe this is one of the best Ridley Scott's movies to date. He has so many great movies and this is one of them. Matt Damon is also very good. The Blu Ray disc is excellent and provides outstanding video and audio with some very nice bonus material. Highly recommended.

I had already bought the blue ray version of this and loved that, then for Xmas bought myself a new 4K DVD player and bought this too. I already include this film as one of my all time favorites, and this 4K version is even better. Also, it includes an "extended version", which adds maybe 4 minutes to the film but does add a little more story, which is nice. It is worth the upgrade to 4K for this one.

Riley Scott is one of my most favorite director, and 'The Martian' has quickly become one of my most favorite movie! I've it three times in the theatre and gotten the Blu-Ray as soon as it came out. After viewing it multiple times in different media, I could barely find any flaws from the storyline to special effect to costume design! What an incredible movie. I truly hope Ridley Scott will win this year's Oscar for Best Director.

As a fan of Matt Damon, I was excited about this film. I liked the plot and the previews did as they are suppose to, they increased my desire to see the movie. I enjoyed the movie. There is a good mix of humor and suspense. My only complaint is the movie felt front heavy. They spent the first part of the movie building the "How will he survive" story and the second half or final third didn't have the depth the first part provided.

I'm not going to say anything about the film because you either enjoyed it or you didn't. My review is on the Blu Ray itself. This blu ray is packed with hours of documentaries which cover every aspect of this film, as well as the actual missions of NASA and JPL. For anyone that enjoys special features, this is the edition to purchase as there is no stone left unturned with this blu ray. A must buy for fans of the film!

I saw this movie in the theater and loved every moment of it. Matt Damon is excellent, as always, and the rest of the actors are every bit as good. It is an intriguing story of the human spirit's desire to explore, to rise to the challenges that life and circumstances present, and celebrates the diversity of humanity, as well as our need for one another. I loved the movie so much that I wanted to put it in my DVD collection.

The Martian is well directed, and well acted by all of the cast. Even the minor players gave great performances. Matt Damon showed great range and emotion, the type of acting you saw from him in The Talented Mr. Ripley, and Good Will Hunting. In addition to the humor, he was able to project the desperation and sense of isolation a person will feel after being stranded or left behind. Definitely one of the top movies of 2015!

The Martian is a classic! As a child in the early 60s I watched the outer limits, the Twilight Zone, and then Star Trek that stretched our imaginations in fantasy. The Martian however is a film that raises the power and progress of the human spirit in conquering the challenges of space travel through humanity working together in spirit and ingenuity. It is a think big picture that will set your spirit on fire. FEEL THE BERN!

I really enjoyed the Matt Damon sci-fi movie The Martian. It was well written with a great ensemble cast. The Martian was a great mix of intense moments with humor. I prefer buying Blu-ray movies that have digital copies included to give you more options for watching the movie. The Martian Blu-ray includes a hi-def digital copy so that you can watch the movie in more than one way. I highly recommend buying this movie.

Let's make one thing clear: This is a great movie, but these days if you seen one space movie, you've seen them all. Gravity was groundbreaking. Interstellar gave us an amazing adventure. The Martian is a rehash of both of those films. Still, The Martian is a very fun and enjoyable film for anyone. You could watch this with anyone and no one would be offended by it. The blu ray itself is great with its sound and picture.. The special features are so-so. Instead of getting awesome behind the scenes footage, we get these fake documentaries about the characters within the movie. If you loved the movie, its a must-buy. If you loved Gravity or Interstellar, this is a good to add to your collection.

Maybe the Golden Globes got it right by classifying The Martian as a comedy. I found myself cheering, laughing and generally feeling really good about the human spirit and about science and about intelligence. But this movie also has hard-core science fiction bordering on reality. It has fantastic dramatic action, people in danger, and stunning visual effects. And I haven't even touched on the disco soundtrack. Go watch it.
