Great movie about a man that gets stuck on mars and needs to survive by learning how to farm on a distant planet. The visuals are fantastic....some really amazing shots in 3d. One can only imagine what mars actually looks like, only being able to see it through your lens. The sound is even better through a sound system with 5.1 or higher. I love scifi and you'll need this in your collection if you enjoy ridley scott films.

The story is something like "Robinson Crusoe" in space. The central character provides the best side of humans in isolation and duress. Left for dead, Matt Damon's depiction of botanist Mark Watney is stunning as he overcomes one problem after the next surviving on Mars. The story jumps back and forth to his NASA counterparts on Earth, as everyone tries to figure out how to save the marooned spaceman.

I purchased this movie when it came out and never seen it before. I will have to say Matt Damon is an amazingly gifted actor and yet again is being rescued from some perill. this time he's stranded on Mars. great in showing the isolation and determination of himself and his fellow astronauts. great to enjoy with the family. has just enough action and drama to keep you inticed the whole movie with a fantastic message.

I bought this movie when I bought my new 65" Samsung TV. The movie looked amazing on the new TV and was a good movie to boot. There are a few parts where the language is a bit salty for kids, but wish some monitoring, my 7, 9 and 13 year olds all loved the movie. We have watched it three times already. I also use it to demo the TV when any of my friends come over......They leave a bit green with envy. :)

We saw at theatre and had to have this in our collection. Probable the closest thing to a technically correct sic fi story and what mars may be like. Only thing that was crazy was the "sand storm" - the force of which is technically inaccurate - but frankly they had to set up the plot with something exciting and with drama - so sandstorm it is. This was a wonderful movie. The blue ray as it should worked flawlessly.

I read the book first, then watched the movie, and then rent it from redbox, finally bought one as my collection. I do not buy a lot of DVDs, and I think this one is worthy to keep. If you are a geek, this sci-fi movie won't disappoint you. I was told the original book was composed as a blog type novel by a programmer, thus how the author develop the story is very familiar to those IT guys.

This is an excellent movie. I had seen it when it first came out. I read a review of the best DVDs out there in the 4K format and this was one of the top choices, so I bought this to test out a new TV. It really does look great in 4K. Some of the movie scenes are dark and gritty, but it is much better watching this with the incredible detail available in 4K with HDR. Matt Damon was perfect for this role!

I don't buy movies often, but this one I did. I was entranced from the beginning, impressed with the photography and Matt Damon's performance. On the off track, because I don't buy movies, I picked up a blue ray because of the digital copy. I asked an employee how to download the digital. Good thing I did, I don't have a blue ray and would have lost money if I had opened that bugger at home. Thanks for the help!

One of the best movies for Matt Damon in a great movie directed by Ridley Scott. Story was believable and scenes were breathtaking, especially the open Mars desert scenes. The cast was great, especially Jessica Chastain, who was great in Zero Dark Thirty. Interesting contrast between military personnel and civilians on the rescue crew that did not really show up until the decision was made to rescue Matt Damon.

I love this movie! The Mars atmosphere is surreal. Wonderful special effects make the martian landscape a thing of beauty and wonder. The soundtrack is a big part of this film; adding a sense of fun and upbeat energy throughout the entire movie. The extras are just ok. I was a little disappointed that there is no commentary. But overall, I enjoy this blu-ray a lot and usually throw it on when I am going to bed.

This is an excellent movie. Very entertaining. I feel it is one of the best performances of Matt Damon's career. He displays a full range of emotion through out the movie from despair to sadness to elation. We especially enjoy the "extended" version of the movie. I heartily recommend this movie.

I am just going to say right now that I am a big fan of both science and space. This is a movie adaptation of a book of the same name that it follows very closely with some minor changes. The best part about this film is that the events are plausible with present technology and tech that will be developed in our lifetime. Matt Damon and the rest of the cast have great performances and its exciting throughout.

A great story about a Mars Mission gone wrong. After being left for dead it shows how persistence and intellect can help you survive in a hostile environment millions of miles from Earth. The 3D version is great and Matt Damon is really good in this role. Gives me an appreciation of the ordeals and sacrifices eventual Mars astronauts will have to endure to survive such a long period away from home and family.

I thought the movie adaption of The Martian was excellent, however, I wanted more. I read the book, which was incredible, and the movie, as good as it was, left quite a bit out and altered some key moments. I understand there are time constraints but they could have at least covered the crash on his way to the other landing. Still, like I said, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and would definitely recommend it.

With what we know now of space travel this fits in to making you feel the trip is just around the corner. The plot is believable and the decision for rescue is spot on. The scenery is very good and your are trying to keep up with the main character (Matt Damon) as he tries to figure out his situation. The movie hits all the bells and whistles with digital scenes as well a plot that takes everyone for a ride.

This is definitely not your normal outer space movie. You'll be treated to one of Matt Damon's best acting in movies and what he must endure being left on an alien planet for years trying to figure out what he must do to keep alive. It had me rooting for the mission as a whole and kept my interest throughout the entire movie. You have to see this one! A fantastic movie transfer as well, extremely well done!

Everything you've heard or seen about this movie is true! It ranks up there with "2001" & "Forbidden Planet" as one of the three greatest sci-fi movies of all time! Everything is pitch-perfect here from Ridley Scott's direction to topnotch design & state-of-the art special effects. Add in a terrific cast led by Matt Damon & Jessica Chastain-just fasten your seat belts & enjoy the ride!

We have long been tantalized with the prospect of visiting other worlds and with the Moon being visited already it's natural to turn our attentions to Mars. There have been some better movies about Mars but this one adds the prospect of an astronaut having to do the impossible to survive and we love our disaster movies. This is a great story of survival in a largely unknown planet.

I enjoyed the book this movie was adapted from and I enjoyed the movie as well. The main reason I got it in 4K is to see the Mars/space scenes. It did not disappoint. I'm not much of a critic but in my opinion the cast was quite good. The overall project was just nicely done. Sound effects were above average. That's my take on this movie and the 4K transfer. Unfortunately 4K isn't as simple as some might think. Once you've adjusted and calibrated your TV and/or player you get the quality you need. I have yet to meet someone who has not had to do any tweaking. If you're out there please tell me what TV and player you have. LOL

At first glance this movie may seem bland, with the only draw being Matt Damon. However, this movie keeps the attention of the viewers from start to finish. The acting is great, the characters have personality, the story is compelling, and the visual aspects are great. There is humor, suspense, and drama, and they are balanced very well. All things considered, this movie is a good watch for everyone.
