Matt Damon is awesome. This is one of his best roles and while I would never have considered him as a potential astronaut, he ably fills the role. With a sense of wonder, humor and the quest to learn if he will make it back home, the Martian is a fun film from start to finish. A stellar support cast including Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig and Jeff Daniels add to the enjoyment.

This is a terrific movie. Exciting, humorous, engaging are a few adjectives which come to mind thinking of The Martian. Matt Damon is terrific as the astronaut marooned on Mars when a storm comes up and he is separated from his fellow crew members. It is a story of human determination to survive in a hostile environment until help can rescue you. I highly recommend this film.

I'm probably going to have a little bit of favoritism since Ridley Scott is one of my favorite Director's but their is no doubt that this is one of his all time best along with "ALIEN" and "BLADE RUNNER". He should have won a Oscar for this. .Matt Damon is terrific along with the other actors. The bonus of seeing this available in the steel box packaging is awesome.

I felt that a good deal of attention was spent on realistic details and story line - to include some humor when least expected (I'm the greatest botanist on Mars! ) I've always liked Matt Damon and this did nothing but enforce/enhance my feelings - Even the music (disco) was well chosen - Especially the song, ' I will survive' which was the actual theme of the movie !!!!!!!!!

It was amusing to see this movie win for Best Comedy that year, but even though it's actually more of a space drama, it's full of great comedic moments and real human emotion, definitely a must watch for folks that enjoy more thoughtful sci fi than usual fare, but maybe not as artsy as Gravity.

While I did not think much of The Martian when I saw the trailers, watching the movie and blu ray version was more than a pleasant surprise. I definitely consider The Martian as one of the best movies of 2015. The bluray version is very good, video and audio very good. Extra features included are very good as is the Gag Reel. Worth the money that it cost to buy the bluray.

The critics all loved it, and with good reason. It's intelligent and entertaining. Director Ridley Scott knows what he's doing, and unlike some directors who have no interest in 3D, he likes 3D and you can see it on the screen... it looks great! I believe it was a conversion, rather than a movie shot in native 3D, but it's a quality conversion. Definitely recommended.

My boys and I can watch this movie over and over again. It's not the greatest movie ever. It is just very likable. So I finally bought the movie, the extended version AND on 4K blu ray for my new 4K player. Can't say too much on the 4K version. It was ok. I have a 4K TV but not with HDR. So to me it was just ok. But the movie though, well worth it.

Great script, assured direction from hit-or-miss Ridley Scott, and a really good central performance from Matt Damon. Has the combination of crowd pleasing along with artistic merit to perhaps win the Best Picture Oscar. While not my favorite of the year so far, I can see it being in the higher section of my top 10 when I've seen most of the major 2015 releases.

The movie was great, sadly, as per usual, some parts were cut out of the story to keep it from being a massively long movie. The two major things that got cut out would have added even more of feeling of hopelessness and danger, along with the genuine need to improvise in a hostile environment. Suffice it to say, it's a great movie, but I'd also recommend the audiobook!

An inspirational tale of survival on Mars in the perhaps near-future. It is good to see that intelligence and book-smarts are being put forward as something common, useful, and even required in such a future. Still, there are a large number of technical goofs in this movie that could have been avoided (and not just the reflections of the cameraman in Matt Damon's helmet visor). Some of the more glaring errors are off-putting, and tend to pull the observer out of the movie, with a cry of, "THAT couldn't happen!". However, if you can ignore and forgive the more minor errors, it is still a very good movie romp.

The Martian has been one of my favorite movies from the first time I watched it. This extended version made it even better. The extra footage gives a deeper degree of awareness to the desperation and trials Mark Watney faced on Mars. I've already watched it twice, along with the dozen times I've watched the original Blue Ray.

I thought “The Martian” was a great movie. If you’re a Matt Damon fan, you’ll like this movie. Think about it as the movie “Cast Away”, with the planet Mars as the island. The things that Mark Whatley had to do to survive was not unlike what Chuck Nolan (played by Tom Hanks) had done in”Cast Away”, except there was no soccer ball.

This was a great movie, and I went and read the book after seeing it. It does a really good job following the book; most they just cut parts from the book so the movie wasn't 4 hours long. The changed very little, and they didn't need to. Both book and movie were entertaining, scientifically accurate (well, much more than Hollywood normally is), and worth your time.

Let me just say that even my girlfriend, who is not typically a fan of action/survival movies, enjoyed this movie. The movie is technical, but very accessible; you don't need to be a geek to appreciate it. It's funny, especially with Michael Pena in the cast. It's a great way to spend a couple hours... I definitely would suggest the 3d... the storm scene looks great.

We are glad to purchase well done movies released in 3D. "The Martian" is excellent - 3D depth adds to the realism of this adventure, with only occasional tricks such as flying rocks. If you have 3D equipment and are considering getting just the regular Blu-ray - try the 3D version instead.

Every time I come across this movie on TV I have to watch it--don't know why but just love it and never get tired watching it. So I finally got a 4k TV and bought the movie--NO commercials and seeing the movie in UHD just make it great!

I didn't hear much about this movie before seeing it and didn't know what to expect but it's really good. Its hard for an actor to carry out a lot of their own scenes alone but Matt Damon pulls it off. Its funny, clever, sci-fi but not too sci-fi. I love how they set this whole premise up and tried to ground it in real life science. I'd recommend this to anyone.

I went into watching this movie expecting something different, actually having unusually low expectations. Once I finished watching it however, I found myself loving this movie. There are no antagonists, the Planet Mars is the bad guy, but its got no control over it. The possibles within this movie are great, and it's science fiction that I can love.

This movie is outstanding! Matt Damon does a great job! Not often do I believe that a movie is better than the book, but if this one is not better, it sure is just as good! It will make you laugh, keep you on the edge of your recliner, perhaps even make you cry for joy! I know that it was worth the price and a movie that you will want to watch more than once!
