Everyone knows that the movie is great, and having it in 3D and 2D is wonderful. On the 2D disc, there is a bevy of extra features. And unlike the usual "behind-the-scenes" stuff (which there is enough of that, too), there is unique and original content, some of which appears to have been filmed just for the disc release. Top notch stuff.

I watched this movie with my whole family. It was a serious subject, but done in a way that made it not so dire. The humor in doing basic functions while trying to survive in a hostile atmosphere was easy to understand and you could really empathize with the member who was left behind. I would recommend this movie to people of all ages.

A great demo movie for my 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos home theater with immersive audio to keep anyone glued to your seat. Entertaining and thrilling movie. Visually stunning! Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain makes this movie a winner.

The movie itself is amazing! The picture and audio quality is great and the extended edition adds about 10 more minutes of footage. The second disc includes hours of bonus features that go in depth into the making of the movie. Last but not least, the steelbook packaging has awesome artwork on the outside and inside.

The concepts and engineering challenges espoused in this film are plausible and believable based on the harsh and unforgiving elements in space. They have obviously conquered many of the limitations presented by space,oxygen, water, and habitat represented buy 'hab" in then movie. Engineering and technology fans...a must see.

This movie was better than I expected. I did not read the book but heard others say that the book was great. They also said the movie was really good too. I took their advice and went to go see it with my wife. We both really enjoyed it. You will find yourself on the edge of your seat and laughing throughout the course of this movie.

I am a fan of Matt Damon and was hoping this didn't disappoint and it didn't. There are a few slow moments mixed in with some drama and bits of comedy sprinkled throughout. I found that I really enjoyed this movie in the theater and have since bought it and seen it a couple of times again. It is definitely worth a watch.

This is an awesome movie. Top notch acting that makess it look and sound believable. Only issue is the extended version sound sync about last 1/4 of the movie.

The film fails if the audience is unable to empathize and root for the main character. Fortunately that is not the case. Matt Damon is excellent as astronaut Mark Watney and really sells the character to the audience. The supporting cast was equally impressive in making the story engaging. One of Ridley Scott's best films.

I took my parents/family out to see it in the theaters and I knew from 15 minutes in that I was going to have to buy the movie when it was out on Blu-ray. I've watched it about 5 times so far and still not tired of it. I would definitely suggest to anyone that they watch or purchase this movie and use surround sound if you got it.

I saw this movie at the theaters in 3D and loved the story. The 3D effects were not "gimmicky", and only added to the storyline. Of course there was more of a 3D effect in the large format movie theater as opposed to my Panasonic ZT60, but the 3D was still great even on the smaller screen. Definitely a long one, but so well done!

This is a great film, and one you can watch over and over because the special effects and sound are so great on the 4K UHD version. It's a story about human spirit and resourcefulness, much in the same vein as Apollo 13. After seeing this, I doubt I would want to go to Mars! Highly recommended!

Not as good as interstellar but still a good watch

I recently played the 4K HDR version of The Martian on my new SONY 75" 4K Model XBR-75X940E TV. This movie in 4K HDR is exceptional. The 4K HDR images were outstanding and so incredibly realistic that it felt like we were part of the action taking place in my media room. This was a 10* experience.

The Martian is an example of Hollywood's rare success at getting the science part right in a science fiction movie. Matt Damon is well cast as a tenacious NASA biologist who has a heck of a bad day. Definitely worth seeing. I'd love to see the 4K version, but since this movie was originally shot in 3D, I had to see it in 3D.

My dad and I went and saw this at the theater. My dad was the one who wanted to see it as he loves the acting ability of Matt Damon. I was not too enthused but WOW! I am so glad I went and saw it. It was funny and educational as well, to see what a person can actually do with limited resources he/she has on hand! Awesome movie

Many reviews said the demo movie for a new 4k HDR setup is The Reverant. While that movie is quite good, The Martian is the best test movie because it has numerous elements such as deep blacks of space, the red Martian surface, bold colors in the HAB instrumentation and several scenes to test the Atmos audio track.

Finally movies that are compatible with the 4K Ultra TV. It's like almost being there, everything is so sharp and vivid. You notice stuff that you normally wouldn't because of the crystal clear colors and clarity. It made this excellent movie even better, if that's possible. Highly recommend movie and in this format.

When people called this movie a comedy I was surprised, but watching it again at home it really is funny, and that's what makes it one of the best movies. It has EVERYTHING. Action, adventure, suspense, comedy, and great acting. It is truly a wonderful film and one I will watch over and over, even though you know how it ends.

I enjoyed the book before it was made into a movie; I like the movie better. The effects and acting are quite good. The 3D BluRay edition works very well, and has some worthy extra features. If you like science fiction (and my daughter-in-law who doesn't even enjoyed it) and you have a 3D home theater, I highly recommend it.
