The book was phenomenal. So it was a given that I wanted to see the movie. But I didn't go into it to compare. More like an appreciation. You dont need to read the book to enjoy it either. Just a great performance from an actor that sometimes is overlooked for the incredible resume he has put together.

I purchased this blindly without seeing it in the movie theater first, but boy was it a well-worth blind buy. Great characters, great story, scientifically accurate and the fact that we are planning a manned mission to Mars soon, this movie came at the right time. Great movie and I highly recommend it!

Matt Damon is one of my favorite actors. The science pretty much tracks Dr. Robert Zubrin's 'Mars Direct' vision - a vision actually rejected by NASA. The realities of life on Mars are also portrayed realistically. But, more than the mostly correct science is the real entertainment this movie provides.

Unlike Intersteller Matt Damon was liked in this movie while playing a character in space. Reminded you of Cast Away in some details but in a more techie way. Was glad I did not just rent as having the digital copy will allow many boring plane rides to be filled with this tale of the lone astronaut.

First off, read the book first. The book is amazing. A few more events take place in the book as Mark journeys across Mars. However, as a film adaption from the book, this was very well done. A safe bet to say if you're questioning whether to buy this movie before you have actually seen it, go for it!

Loved The Martian last year on iTunes and thought it would look even better in 4K. Well it surpassed my expectations. Vivid color and TrueHD sound. Fantastic!!!! Anyone upgrading to a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player (I have the Samsung) I highly recommend adding The Martian to your collection.

Best Buy was running one of those special purchases where the price was very low on this movie. Bought it for a Friday night movie night. Normally my wife does not enjoy science fiction movies, but she enjoyed this one immensely. Great price. Great movie night. The digital copy worked flawlessly.

Hard to believe a movie consisting mostly of a one-man performance could hold my attention so well for so long, but it succeeded brilliantly. Matt Damon is one of the few actors who can manage this feat. More comical than I anticipated, but probably necessary to carry the length of the film.

The Martian was an excellent film. It really gives you an insight into the super intelligence of the brave men and woman who dedicate their lives to our space program. If any of you know an engineer, this movie explains why they never throw anything away and can repair almost anything out of nothing!

Awesome, engaging, intense sci-fi. Loved it, so did my kids...have re-watched this movie multiple times...we just love that realistic science fiction that tries to be as non-fiction as possible...tries to cling to what we can almost do, hope to do soon etc...hoping for more sci-fi like this

Another 4k purchase, this movie once again shows why 4k is the best way to view movies outside the movie theater. With a second disk that has the regular blu-ray plus additional features, along with the ability to download the electronic version, you have plenty of ways to enjoy the movie.

I saw this movie in 2D at the theater. Great movie. Then I bought this movie in 3D. Got it home turned it on. All my goodness. The detail in 3D is incredible. The things that stood out in 3D that I did not see in 2D was incredible. What a great movie to see in 3D. I would recommend seeing this in 3D.

FROM THE TITLE TO THE CONCEPT THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF ORIGINALITY IN MOVIE MAKING. IT RUSHES WITH EMOTION, BOTH HIGHS AND LOWS, WITH AN INTRICATE STORY THAT WILL HOLD THE VIEWER SPELLBOUND FOR THE ENTIRE FLICK. I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE WITH ENOUGH STARS. WATCH IT AND BEHOLD WHAT MOVIES SHOULD BE.

"The Martian" is a great movie - believable situations and characters, even though it occurs several years in the future, it is not exactly "science fiction" more like science-soon-to-be-fact. Matt Damon is excellent in the lead role and the FX are spot on. Has drama, humor, and a happy ending.

Very reminiscent of the classic Apollo 13 movie. A space mission goes wrong, leaving an astronaut in mortal danger. As he works on his survival, the professionals (and politicians) back home work on a survival plan. A great showcase for optimism, teamwork, and the fantastic possibilities of science.

This is a very entertaining and very suspenseful film that in my opinion is one of the best pictures of 2015. Matt Damon pulls off another challenging role and his performance is one of his best. Great cinematography and a wonderful original script make this a highly enjoyable science fiction film.

I had listened to the audio book a while back before Hollywood made the book into a movie. I accompanied my wife to watch the movie in theater and was pleasantly surprised. Kudos to Ridley Scott and his team for a solid book-movie adaptation. It is redemption from that horrible scripted Prometheus.

I'm guessing by now you already know about this movie, so there won't be any content review here. I'll just say it's great sci fi, in my opinion. The Blu ray is fantastic, picture and sound are of the highest quality for BD. Buy it, turn the lights down, crank up the volume, and enjoy the ride! :-)

After watching the movie trailer,it caught my attention of what the movie was about. Matt Damon's role on The Martian is brilliant ,overall Great movie from beginning to end.About 4k it's ok I only notice nice 4k quality on some parts of the movie and I have a Lg 4k 55" tv and Xbox one S .

The Martian was a great movie. It has thrilling sci-fi adventure & it was a lot funnier than I expected. The whole family agreed we wanted to buy this movie on Blu ray. And I like having the digital copy included with it because I plan on watching it on my phone during an upcoming plane ride.
