I loved the Blu Ray theatrical release and thought that I'd give the 4K extended release a try. There is very little new footage but the improvement in overall picture quality was noticeable. I'll probably give the Blu Ray to my daughter as the 4K Ultra HD also came with a Blu Ray.

This ended up being one of my favorite movies of 2015... of course Star Wars was my overall favorite... but The Martian was a very enjoyable and entertaining movie that was well made, written and the acting was pretty good as well. If you haven't seen it yet its definitely worth taking a look at!

Like the book, suspend the reality for the "storm" and the science, possibility, and most of the technology make this a fun movie. Throw in the could-be political drama and the reality aspect really pops. If you were one that thought Gravity was good or great, you should really enjoy this more.

My wife, who usually is apathetic about science-fiction, loved this one. It is "hard" sci-fi, where the story and actions are mostly based upon facts. But more than the science, it is a great movie about the human spirir and I think that is why it struck such a chord with so many people.

This movie was amazing! It is a must buy! So according to an awards event it won as a musical which is quite hilarious seeing how it didn't seem like a musical and more like a comedy/suspense! Matt Damon is back and better than ever! Stop reading and just pick this movie up and start watching it!

I love this movie! The extended cut is nice, and the free HD digital copy is worth the cost of the disc itself! It can be redeemed in Vudu, iTunes, or Google Play completely free (with the purchase of the disk). It's literally like getting two copies of the movie for the price of one.

Really good movie, shows the whole planet working together for a common cause, something you don't here these days. 4K detail is really sharp, color and picture detail is amazing. So much detail, you get depth usually only available in 3D pictures. Seven channel audio sounds great too.

Good character development, interesting premise, enjoyed by adults and kids. Of course, in some ways it is kind of idiotic. If we put as much energy into making the Earth an even better place as we put into the idea of space colonization, imagine how great it could be here.

Really fun and enjoyable movie. I would recommend the 4K Ultra HD if you have the right TV- lots of great action sequences and beautiful landscapes make it worthwhile.

A wonderful adaptation of a super book written by an engineer who is a space geek. The book and movie are largely factual and offer us a glimpse into the near future of manned Mars missions. The movie is largely faithful to the book, with great scenery, suspense, and effects. Highly recommended!

I have always liked anything Matt Damon has been a part of, even his PBS work. I also am quite fond of science fiction, especially if it is based on real science that could possible happen in the not so distant future. This movie will keep you on the edge of your seat through-out. Excellent!

This was a very entertaining and watchable movie. Not 100% true to the novel, but close. The novel I believe gives more specifics around the science and has more fun with the entertainment choices the crew left, but the film was still enjoyable in it's own right. My 13-yo son enjoys it as well.

Realistic depictions of scientists in a near-future setting combined with fantastic drama make this an excellent movie that will hold up nicely over time. The movie abbreviates several of the longer technical and dramatic scenes, especially towards the end, which are expended on in the book.

This movie comes about as close to accurate as it can (according to various interviews on the subject), while taking some liberties with some facts in order to create the narrative. Then again, people need to remember it's about entertainment; it's not a biopic!

Fantastic movie that is enthralling from beginning to end. Every aspect of film-making is exceptionally well done. Ridley Scott is a master film director. The 3D is excellent -- reportedly it was filmed in 3D (not converted from 2D into 3D, as is the case with nearly all 3D movies).

The only gripe I have about purchasing Blu-ray movies are the store stickers glued to the jacket sleeves. Sometimes the sticker is removable with no trouble and at other times the sticker cannot be removed without marring the sleeve jacket. Very annoying. Otherwise, I am a satisfied customer.

Great movie. Matt Damon pulls it off well. Amazing 4k cinematography. You will watch this over and over. Excellent details, scientifically correct, great characterizations.

The 4K upgrade is significant in this movie, but the Dolby Atmos track is demo quality, providing you have the adequate Atmos set up. Makes the phenomenal movie even more immersive.

A highly intelligent and entertaining science fiction film with an incredible cast. Minimal suspension of disbelief needed here. Matt Damon is excellent in the cast away/lone survivor role, and Chiwetel Ejiofor is awesome as always. Will definitely read the book upon which this film is based.

As I watched the movie, it held my total attention. The details were great and the scientific principles seemed solid. Yes, there were a number of things which weren't totally on tract, but its a movie and producers and writers do get some leeway in their imaginations.
