Couldn't wait to experience the new world of 4K, atmos, HDR, etc., so I purchased one of the Samsung 8500 series 4K bluray players. The Martian was my second 4K movie. It wasn't until I tried to play the first movie on my new Sony bluray with 4K "upscaling" that I discovered that it didn't play 4K movies, hence the new Samsung 8500. The "Martian" looked and sounded great! Good demo for atmos and 4K.

The Martian is a really well done film. The story focuses on an astronaut who gets stranded on Mars after a storm forces the rest of the crew to make the decision to leave the planet, not knowing that the man they left behind is still alive.

An absolute gem of a film that has something for everyone. Funny, thrilling, fantastic special effects, top notch acting coupled with great casting choices and c'mon, who doesn't like Mars?

I normally read books before I see the film but not this time. I saw the movie and I loved it. I bought the book the following day, I just had to get my hands on it. I would recommend this film to anyone who is into science or just loves comedy.

I'm not a big Matt Damon fan and parts of the movie were implausible. However, the film's plot appealed to me on the basis of man's ability to innovate in order to survive against all odds. It was extremely entertaining and was great visually.

This is an absolute beast of a movie. In 4K it just looks perfect. Meant to be seen in 4K IMO. You can see every detail on the character's faces, it's literally like you're there. I've been very spoiled with this disc.

I haven't read the book yet therefore I cannot compare the two. This version included the bluray disc and digital copy. Doesn't include DVD or extended version of movie. The movie itself is action packed, humorous, and entertaining.

Another great movie from Ridley Scott. I've been a huge fan of his since I first saw Blade Runner in 1982. Very interesting study of isolation and inventiveness. Almost like Robinson Crusoe. Matt Damon steals the show as an astronaut accidentally left by his shipmates on Mars and how he has too survive waiting for rescue. Love the steelbook and the extended, version of the film. Highly recommended.

I read the book first, liked that a lot, this is a pretty good adaptation of the book. Decent performances, but the limits of a two hour movie mean a good deal of detail is left out, but definitely a good watch for anyone who has read the book.

This 4k blu ray was a steal at $15. Extended edition adds minimal additional scenes to an already great movie. The real value is that they added Atmos sound to the Extended edition which is absolutely excellent. Great film.

Ridley Scott is one of the greatest directors all-time, but he went on a cold streak when it came to movies. This movie is his return to form and proves he still has it. Also once again Matt Damon puts out another fantastic performance.

Awesome science fictional performances and production by Matt Damon, supporting actors, and film crew of 'The Martian'. An epic film about an astronaut and botanist who unluckily becomes stranded on Mars (the red planet). It's outta this world!

Gravity was my favorite, now this one is. Very realistic, with a lot of actual science in it, as much as you can get with an engaging story in a Hollywood movie. Highly recommended if you liked Gravity, or if you like a good story of survival.

My first impression of the movie was that it was going to be confining and slow-moving. However, I was pleasantly surprised as the movie progressed. It was extremely well-done and Matt Damon gave an outstanding performance (Oscar material).

not really a matt damon fan but he did an excellent job in this movie. the plot is reasonable, and the rest of the cast do a good job too. if you like space movies that are theoretically feasible, you'll like this movie.

Matt Damon gets stranded on Mars during a dust storm when his fellow astronauts fly back into space thinking he was killed in the storm. See how he tries to survive with the few resources he has. Great movie with lots of suspense!

Based on the fabulous scifi novel by the same name, the movie brought the captivating story to the big screen. The 3D effects are done in the manner that provides natural depth of the setting for enhanced visual experience.

The product came with 2 discs. One in Blu-Ray format and the other in 3D. I wanted a disc in regular format to play on an older DVD player and neither would. I misread the product label on the packaging thinking one was included. Instead, I can download a regular format movie. Doesn't really do me any good for my particular situation. I do have a Blu-Ray player but not where I had hoped to use it. Oh well.

As the title says, this is my favorite movie of 2015. Matt Damon did a great job with his role in this. Well paced, lots of action, some genuinely funny moments (not a comedy though!) and science fiction based in plausibility. Bring Him Home!

Great movie and even better if 4k w/blu ray sound. Must have if you have surround atmos speakers. You experience the movie VS watching it.
