Great anime made better by the movie

Without seeing the movie I would've rated this about 7 or 8. Even after seeing the movie I feel that rating still stands but The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is a series that gets better with every rewatch. The movie, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, makes this entire series. There are a lot of problems the anime suffered from, mostly being from the endless 8 arc. The endless 8 is more or less the same episode 8 times (won't spoil much more than that) and it's a big reason many people do not like the series. I power through the endless 8 each rewatch because I think it's an interesting and unique storytelling element that I haven't experienced in any other show. The Bluray itself is awesome. Episodes 1-28 are in the E = 2009 broadcast order (if you look at the episode list in the Wiki - "List of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya episodes"), which is how I always watched it. On the inside of the Bluray cover, it has a guide to watch in 2009 rebroadcast order (just watch in order 1-28), broadcast order "kyon" (B in the wiki episode list), chronological order "haruhi" (C in the wiki episode list), and Japanese DVD order (D in the wiki episode list). It has both English dub or Japanese with English subtitles for audio. I think this is a well put together set to add to your collection.

Although a lot of anime has tried to replicate the elements of this series, nothing else has quite captured the same weird but fun mix. This set contains the entire series, as well as lots of extras. Not all of the extras have been upgraded to HD, but the episodes themselves look great.

This was a series that looked good and the details about the story line sounded good when I added it to my wish list. After watching it though I don't really like it.
