Love this series! This is the history that gets “glazed over” in School.

An interesting irony runs throughout this compilation of stories about the "captains" of industry and finance in late 19th & early 20th century America. While inventing and producing incredibly beneficial technologies, products and services that transformed our country from an agrarian to a "modern" capitalist economy, the men featured in this series ruthlessly employed tactics worthy of a medieval ruler to strangle and eliminate their competition (and in some cases, each other). This provides fascinating viewing for anyone not familiar with the era of the "robber barons". These "docu-dramas" were originally broadcast on cable TV with commercial interruptions. Because of this, they frequently " flashback" to previously shown segments to bring the audience "back up to speed" after those breaks. This can prove quite annoying and is the reason for my giving the set only 4 stars. Still, It was great overall and quite a bargain at only $10,

Rags-to-riches versus old money; ultimate risk takers; ruthless takeovers; innovators; inventors; clash of classes; political scheming. Vanderbilt, Carnegie, Morgan, Rockefeller, T. Roosevelt, Edison, Tesla, Ford, more. This is an eye-opening, interesting history lesson that is realistic, well acted and filmed, worthy to be watched many times.

Captivating presentations of some of the most magnificent men who helped shaped our nation with their imagination, ideas and grit. Each story reveals insights into the men and the drive that not only sealed their place in history, but forever changed its course and brought the world along for the ride.

The Men Who Built America DVD includes all eight episodes plus bonus footage that amounts to roughly another eight segments. We watched one of the later episodes of this series when it originally aired and were very impressed with the way the episode progressed.

This story concentrates on the building of America into the Industrial Age and how money men built powerful corporations that treated workers poorly and in some cases had Union organizers killed!

The born of United States, very interesting. The roots of the capitalism. We are still leaving and it is getting stronger. The current president makes some comments during the movie.

One of the best documentaries I've seen. it explains a lot of the challenges people like Rockefeller and Carengie. And the interviews with Americas current one percent were priceless

I bought this for my wife who has the book. She watched it skeptically at first but admitted it was a good companion to the book. She would highly recommend.

We have really enjoyed this documentary. It is written in a way to even keep our children's attention. We homeschool and it has been very educational.

This is excellent documentary. It fills in some of the gaps even my own U.S. History class did not cover.

Excellent doc on how these men built and made themselves rich after the Civil War. One of the modern day billionaire commentators is our President!

My littl bro really wanted this show on dvd to watch and i spent a good time searching for it! Finally found it at best buy of course and he loves it!

Interesting take on the families that entered the industrial revolution after the civil war. This is a made for TV miniseries. A lot of repetition from episode to episode.

Watched this on TV. It was so good I bought the CD so I can watch it again. I would highly recommend watching this show.

This is an alright TV documentary. Some of the information gets repeated over and over.
