The movie is kinda boring and slow. People said the acting sucks. I thought the Moms acting was great but the little daughters acting was bad. Yeah its a typical monster that eats people but I liked the movie because it was a mix between drama and monster action. Not just a silly monster eating people like people would think. I liked it so much that I bought it on blu-ray.

“Dogs don’t got teeth like this.” Lizzy (Ballentine) and her mother Kathy (Kazan) have a strained relationship. After a day of screaming and fighting they are finally on the way back to Lizzy’s father’s. What starts off as a quiet tension filled drive changes when they accidentally hit a wolf. Things get deadly when they realize they aren’t alone, but neither knows what they are dealing with. This is a strange movie. On one hand it’s a little like Cujo with a mother and child stuck in a car trying to survive. On the other hand, it’s one of the most depressing movies I have ever seen. The drama and acting gets you invested in the characters and when they get attacked it means something beyond a cookie cutter monster movie. This is a movie where I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I didn’t expect this. The movie is a decent watch and worth your time. Overall, the most depressing horror movie I have ever seen. I wasn’t sure whether to be scared or cry. I give this a B-.

If CGI spectacles and insipid spook shows have been leaving you cold lately, give The Monster a look. It's a tightly crafted tale of a dysfunctional mother/daughter duo trapped in the woods with...well, we never find out what, or why, the creature is, but that doesn't matter. It's all about how the characters deal with their harrowing night under siege from it and the effect it has on their damaged relationship. Great performances and a killer old fashioned man-in-a-suit monster make this a highly entertaining watch. I just wish there had been more in the way of extras on the disc.

This movie is o.k. However I did really enjoy the practical effects and they were done very well. The ending is actually pretty good.

I saw this while browsing the shelves at my local Best Buy and being as I have found some other horror gems that I had never heard of like this, I once again took a chance on this and was not disappointed! It is a pretty suspenseful creature feature! Not exactly sure what the creature is supposed to be but it was pretty cool just the same and the acting in the movie wasn't bad either.

Okay, but not the best monster movie

One of the too many films that begin with a dysfunctional family and ends with the dysfunction solved by the common encounter with the monster. Oh, that it was that easy to fix relational problems. Not that facing the monster is easy, but, when the dust has settled the problem will usually come back. Of course they never show any of that because the movie is over. The movie, itself, was scary enough, but the plot predictable and common. We must have run out of good ideas for monsters. Many of them look like near copies of previous ones. Still, it was fun to watch and wonder when the monster would strike next and what the body count would wind up being. I like the non-human monster movies much better than the human monster ones. If I want to see human monsters all I have to do is turn on the local news. Having a non-human monster made this movie rate higher for me. Acting wasn't bad and suspense level keeps you watching. I'd recommend it for seeing when you just want to see a good monster movie. Not the best, but good enough.

Monster movies come and go.. just like snow. This girl battles more than her mother and herself but a beast that lurks in the woods. There were some ho-hum moments and cliche's but entertaining. I couldn't help but think about the movie Cujo an Steven King favorite of many. If your a horror nut like me... go get it for your collection at a good price.

This movie is slow going. However, it does a good job of building up the tension and also gives a great backstory as to the relationship of the mother and daughter. The monster is good. Practical effects are always better than over used CGI. Good movie check it out.

There's a ton of atmosphere and a building sense of dread in the opening 40 minutes. While the monster may not be the most original, the film is quite effective and makes you not want to be on abandoned roads in the middle of the night.

The Monster is a decent film. It's kind of more of a drama about a fractured relationship between a mother and daughter with a monster thrown in. It's refreshing to see a monster using practical effects and not CG.

While I am a horror fan, I tend to go into most horror films with little to no expectations (keeps me from being too disappointed when I watch a lame one). I am one of the few people that i know that really like the director's two previous films (the strangers and mockingbird), but to me his simplicity adds to the scares of his films. The mom and daughter in this film did an excellent job and the monster effects were really well done, once you see the monster. Highly recommend for horror fans looking for a good monster movie)

Great creature feature bluray, Reminds me of late night old school horror movies I use to watch, was waiting for it to come out on bluray, had to add it to my bluray collection.

I found myself more interested in the story of the mother and daughter, more than the horror aspect. The suspense was good and the acting was exceptional by both actresses.

I first heard of this little gem, by accident, and I went to view it at a $2.00 theatre. All I can say is that I was blown away at the story line, and the pure suspense of the film. The premise is simple. Mother and daughter leave their home to bring said child to her fathers to live. Vehicle breaks down, then all havoc breaks loose. There is no CGI in this movie, the monster is in makeup, and it is frightening. If you want a good scare, with heart, pick this gem up.

Same director as "The Strangers". Great little horror creature flick that gets it done with a smaller budget. Good story, great acting. Solid.
