Was on a classic horror kick this Halloween, and watched this one. It's good to watch, and on Blu-ray it looks awesome. While some of the action is almost laughable now--I imagine this scared people right out of their seats when it came out.

The best of the Mummy movies

This is the Mummy movie to watch! Far superior to any sequel or remake!
This version tells the story of the evil Imhotep, a sorcerer cursed by a Pharoh many centuries ago and brought back to life today (meaning 1932 when the movie was made).
Boris Karloff turns in a terrifying performance as Imhotep, the undead villain. There are many truly frightening scenes in this movie, all without being violent or gory. Karloff's fine performance and the superb directing of The Mummy makes this one of the best suspense films ever made.
The extras include a documentary on the making of the Mummy and on the films enduring legacy. Very informative.
There are problems with background noise and some image quality problems here and there. Plus a couple isolated scenes are missing a frame or two, but this will not diminish your enjoyment of the Mummy.
For a true classic of horror and suspense, The Mummy stands the test of time and is still one of the best.

Karloff followed his great success in Frankenstein with a slightly different, and equally memorable, Universal monster.
With the help of Jack Pierce's makeup, Karloff makes the title character scary and slightly sympathetic.
His mummy is inadvertently revived after archeologists dig him up. He then reemerges a decade later and tries to capture a beautiful acquaintance of said archeologists in the hopes of reviving his deceased love.
Zita Johann, Edward Van Sloan, and David Manners are fine (even if the latter two more or less play the same characters they did in Dracula).
The film's delightlfully creepy atmosphere and nice music (the title credits are shown played to "Swan Lake" just like Dracula & Murders in the Rue Morgue) are other reasons why this film remains the definitve Mummy movie. The only one that's come close is Hammer's take over three decades later.

But that's just my opinion, you have to purchase this to judge for yourself. I never listen to reviews, I only care about what I think.
