The Mystery of the Wax Museum is not so well known as many other spooky movies from 30's Hollywood. It is well worth viewing.

The fully restored version of the nearly 87-year old horror dandy in its original 2-color, Technicolor predecessor, is a stunning gem! Yes, it is rather trite and nowhere near the 3D Technicolor classic, House of Wax, starring Vincent Price, in not as trite. Much thanks to the George Lucas Foundation for restoring this film and preserving it in Blu-ray to be enjoyed by movie buffs for a long long time. Fay Wray, known more so for her role in the original KING KONG, is the innocent almost-victim look-a-like to a waxen masterpiece of Marie Antoinette; however, the extra segment hosted by Fay's daughter, is a delightful addition to be enjoyed. THE MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM may not be fodder for every film buff, but the masterful restoration of this classic is nonetheless of historic motion picture history.

So much better than its compatriot, Dr. X. This strikes the exact right balance of humor, drama and horror and it looks better than I could ever have hoped. That said- it's a 3-strip technicolor from 1933 so it's gonna look soft. Adjust your expectations. What it lacks in fine detail, it more than makes up for in Fay Wray.

An excellent example of the two strip technicolor process. All scratches, blemishes, and other age damages have been removed and looks as good as it looked nearly 90 years ago. Using only two colors, green and red, gives the film a surreal look. And the sets are reminiscent of Frankenstein's laboratory. The only reason it doesn't get five stars is that while it looks great, the dialogue is dated and the story is good but not exceptional or groundbreaking. But anyone interested in film history should have this in their collection.

Original horror classic that hits the mark Don’t like the colorization because it’s not realistic. Lionel Atwill always delivers. Classic
