I saw this movie with my Dad when I was kid. It was such a shock to see what was happening to earth at that time and at my short age, but as I grew up I understood better and I always liked this movie.
Very good Science Fiction/Thriller and Charlton Heston is as good in this movie as he always was in every movie he made; one of the best actors Hollywood ever produced.

The Omega Man has to be one of the best last man on earth movies made. It was one of Charlton Heston's pet projects. He regretted the "Family"s look. Makes the film outdated by todays standard. However, the deserted Los Angeles was one of the first realistic use of man's extinction, the trash in the streets, the abandoned cars, the corpses Heston keeps coming across. And the bi-racial love interest with Heston and Rosalind Cash caused a little bit of controversy for it's time.Just a couple of problems with the film that Warner Brothers could fix digitally now. At the beginning,as Heston is driving down the deserted streets, you see a guy walking down the sidewalk, for a brief second you can see the camera car turning after Heston's vehicle and finally where Heston is driving the military vehicle into the Familys' trap, you can see the filming lights reflected in the windshield with part of the crew. Nit-picky I know, but like I said, they could be digitally removed these days. All in all it's still a classic and if they had CGI back then, just imagine what they could have accomplished. On a sad note the film's Director Boris Sagal died a few years later during the filming of a television show in a helicopter crash. And with "I Am Legend" with Will Smith out, I figured Warner Brothers might cook up a special "The Omega Man" to coincide with "I Am Legend"s release. Perfect advertising tool. I have this on VHS and DVD. I would have bought a special edition if it had come out.

This is by far the best adaptation of Richard Matheson's classic novel I Am Legend. Despite the lack of special effects, this movie does not disappoint. Well-acted and never campy, this film is sure to satisfy most.

Great plot & acting though somewhat low-budgetted for effects & supporting cast. All in all a great flick. Obviously dated, but still great a movie for all.

Best sci-fi movie ever. Its one of the best movies like Soylent Green and StarWars. Except some scenes. But still I give this movie five out of five.

Omega Man was rushed into the Blu-Ray format to coincide with the release of Will Smiths " The Last Man on Earth ".
The VC-1 encoded 2.40:1 transfer shows considerable artifacts, especially in dark scenes but keeps consistant colors and fleshtones which is amazing considering the age of the film source.
The sound offerings on the disc are a standard English 1.0 Dolby digital track, which is substandard considering what you are paying for this disc.
If you already have the Warner Home Video version of " The Omega Man " then I suggest you steer clear of this Blu-ray version, since the Warner version is a re-master and looks better, without the grain, exhibited in the Blu-ray version.
I hope one day this film is given the TLC it deserves and with a little enhancing will be free of artifacts..

I was a young and impressionable pre-teen when this movie came out and for some reason it struck a chord with me. After all these years I still find that I like to watch the movie even though some parts are a little silly and the plot/script can be thin. Charleton Heston as the last man, post apocolypse, trying desperately to maintain a sense of self and sanity, has always been a favorite, silly or not.

Worth it If You Don't Already Have

I would recommend this Blue-Ray title only to people who don't already own it on standard dvd. If you do already have it, there's nothing here that is worth rebuying it at almost double the price of regular dvd.
