I purchased this during the Black Friday sale knowing nothing of it other than reading Jason Bateman was involved and that it was a horror themed (Stephen King) mini-series. I had been so impressed with the first season of Castle Rock that I decided to give this a try. Being of "a certain age" - I'm an obligatory fan of Jason Bateman. I most readily associate him with lighter, comedic roles - but every now and then we get to see him in projects that highlight his versatility. I don't want to throw up any spoilers, but I will say: I felt kind of duped a couple episodes in - which was quickly redeemed with the discovery that his contribution to this project was behind the camera as well. (This should not be misinterpreted as that the show was bad! Just an unexpected plot twist early on). I did feel that the ending fell a little flat but was necessary for closure to the storyline. Good value for the price and I will most likely watch it again in the future.

The Stephen King novel upon which this TV series is based is a solid ghost story of ~560 pages and I prefer a mini series like this over trying to fit everything in a 90 to 120 minute length movie. The novel is one of many of the longer King tales that starts off very strong, and falters in both pace and quality prior to a reasonably interesting ending. Reading “Outsider,” the thought creeps in around page 200 that this is an exceptionally long, drawn-out treatment of a fairly simple, straight-forward, and potentially exciting story. Thoughts I have had around the one-third mark of numerous King novels: “When will something happen?” “Should I speed-read to the detriment of retention, or should I simply skip ahead?” I believe this recurring problem with King’s longer novels is why many of his short stories and novellas generate such consistently high praise, relative to his longer novels.

I have been a Stephen King fan for decades, and for the first decade or so, movie adaptations for the King didn't do his work justice, with a few notable exceptions. By now, I could watch a different Stephen King A-list movie every night for a month and still not near the finish-line, and thankfully so. This particular gem is an HBO presentation of one of Stephen King's more recent works, and, although I just finished watching the first segment so far, it rings true to my recollection of the book, so that is a VERY GOOD sign.

HBO's "The Outsider" is a hybrid of a procedural police drama and supernatural monster story. It starts out as a grim police drama and then gets more and more strange as the show proceeds. A very uncommon detective is brought in, and the posse of otherwise level-headed police professionals go on a monster hunt. The writing and acting are top-notch. The pace of the story is sometimes glacially slow, however. But if you're willing to wait until the later episodes for the real action to occur, it's worth watching "The Outsider."

Based on Stephen King's best-selling novel of the same name, "The Outsider" begins by following an investigation which at first seems like it will be simple and straightforward but things change as it leads into the gruesome murder of a young boy by a seasoned cop. When an insidious supernatural force edges its way into the case, it leads the investigators to question everything they believe in

Whether a fan of the Stephen King book of the same name or not, you'll find this to be an absorbing thriller. It's a slow-burn for sure, but the superb acting and storytelling will keep you engrossed. I think this is superior to many previous efforts to adapt King novels for the small screen. Highly recommend.

Almost halfway through the series, and have to ration out the episodes. I am trying not to binge watch, but this is so good. Not your typical Stephen King story, but great all the same. If you enjoyed the Mr. Mercedes series, you will enjoy this one. Highly recommended!

This is an excellent adaptation of a creepy supernatural crime-thriller from master writer Stephen King. The series unfolds to tell one compelling story. Acting and production values are excellent.

I am occasionally a fan of the works of Stephen King and this series made me even more so. Very suspenseful, it is definitely a binge worthy series. and a must watch if you like Mr. King; or even if you don't like him, you will like this. A must watch.

I thought this adaptation to King’s novel was just stellar. I hope they adapt If It Bleeds for the second season. It’s a shame they (HBO) could not tie in the story from Mr. Mercedes (this is probably due to the different networks owning the rights).

Excellent, entertaining series that was well enjoyed by most who watched it. Perhaps a bit less than 5 stars, but not far off, so left it at that. Thanks to Best Buy for getting this great Blu-ray to me well packaged and in Brand New Condition.

if you're a fan of King then you get understand his movies but if you an average movie or TV show watched, then you won't like it. King has more depth to his books then most TV producers can put on film ,

The show did not need to be 10 episodes it could have been condensed into 8 but other than that it is a thriller that keeps you on your toes right until the very end. And there is a decent amount of special features for a tv show that allow you to go more in depth if you choose.

Great Series. It kept you on the edge of your seat and the ending of each episode made you want to start the next episode immediately. I binged watched all 10 episodes of "THE OUTSIDER".

While I haven't yet read this book the mini series is great. I saw the trailer and picked this up immediately. Sucks you in from the start and doesn't let up. Some great performances too.

The Best Horror TV show I've seen in several Years looks Awesome on Blu-ray! It's scary, shocking, Amazing story...Stephen King with another Masterpiece! King fan must buy!

I did not read the best-selling novel before watching this series. I will read the book after seeing this Stephen King's HBO series. Good thriller with suspense. Good acting.

This is an excellent series full of mystery and suspense. I highly recommend this if you haven’t seen it do yourself a favor and check it out. Enjoy long the physical media

Great miniseries. Follows the book really well. Just wish they had kept the same actress for holly for continuity reasons, but the new actress did a wonderful job.

The Outsider has a slow start which is a slow burn but really delivers as a sci-fi and horror series.
