Love this movie. Kevin Kline is amazing. Angela Lansbury is lovely and Linda Ronstadt is sublime. Gilbert and Sullivan make wonderful comic operas.

This adaptation of a staged musical captures the expressiveness of live stage acting and merges it with cinematographic effects. It's like watching the musical, but with camera angles and effects only available with film. It's a shame if other musicals (e.g.s, Wicked, The Book of Mormon) don't follow this lead!

We are a family that enjoys musicals. This is light opera, but it has wonderful comedy and beautiful singing. We already had the vhs of this and were thrilled to see the dvd.
Who would have expected Kevin Klein to be so good a singer. This is a great family show.
