Beautifully filmed animated version of the story of Moses and the Ten Commandments. Stunning special effects and the heartbreaking rift between the young men who grew up together. You will enjoy this great story even if you aren’t religious.

Solid blu ray of very good film

I'll start with the bluray itself, for those who already know the film. The menu is just as barebones as the package art, but the video quality is solid. The main issue is regular speckles which haven't been cleaned up, but otherwise the picture looks good. I don't have the DVD for comparison, and the artwork isn't super high-detail to start with, but the lines are rather fine and look quite good in blu ray, and based on my experience with other animated DVDs, I have to believe it's a substantially cleaner image than the DVD. I wish they would have done a more comprehensive job with the bluray release, but at least the price is quite reasonable. As for the film itself, I'm quite impressed. I hadn't seen it until a couple of years ago, and being so familiar with the story it's hard to give an objective review, but I find it overall to be a powerful and relatively faithful presentation of the story of Moses, up through the escape of the Hebrews from Egypt. This is a very ambitious film, and very different from what is normally seen in American animation. It's not for kids -- not inappropriate per se, but also not aimed at them, and likely to elicit a lot of hard questions. The biggest shift in the story is the idea (not unreasonable under the circumstances, but not in Exodus) that Moses was raised as a prince of Egypt, and would have been as a brother to the later Pharoah Rameses. This allows for considerable development of the character of Moses as well as both Pharoahs. The portrayal gives the Pharoahs more humanity, but it also shifts a great deal of responsibility from God to the Pharoahs themselves: in Exodus, it is stated repeatedly that it was God who "hardened the heart" of Pharoah, whereas this is not suggested in the movie. Other changes include that Moses is much younger than in Exodus, and Aaron's role is changed and reduced. However, much of the film feels like the creators simply did their best to envision what it would have been like to have lived through the events described in Exodus, with little in the way of typical Hollywood unnecessary changes for the sake of "drama." I hadn't read the original story in a long time, and I was struck at how many of the details in the film were in fact taken directly from the story. It's hard to compare Prince of Egypt to other films, because there are few if any similar ones to compare to, but overall I am very glad to have seen it, and happy that it was released on bluray, even if in a rather perfunctory way.

    A Stunning Animated Classic

DreamWorks Animation made a definitive statement with this awe inspiring, spectacular hand-drawn classic, which is finally available on Blu-Ray after 20 years. Equally appealing to believers in its timeless story and fans of outstanding animation and art, The Prince of Egypt has broad appeal and deserves to be much more widely seen. This new Blu-Ray release is the best format the film's been in since its theatrical run; this is definitely the way you want to watch this film. Beautifully brought to life by an international team of animators, the film carries some of the techniques and professionalism of the Disney Renaissance (with which it is roughly contemporary), but looks completely unlike anything made by Disney. DreamWorks Animation put their unique stamp on the film, giving it sincerity, gravity, and seriousness that is rarely seen in American animation. Watching this, you can see why the DreamWorks hand-drawn studio truly was one of the best in the world. There are enough jaw-dropping moments in the film, where the animation and art sweep you away, to bring this familiar story to life as few other Biblical epic films have. Long story short, this is a must-see for anyone who loves classic film, outstanding animation, and messages of faith.

I bought this film a long time ago when it first came out on DVD. It looked good then and looks much better on Blue Ray. The movie stands on its own. The animation is top-shelf, the sound is enveloping, the music ( When You Believe) is inspirational, and the voice casting is spot on. The film is inspirational and entertaining. You Must see it!

I had this movie along time ago, when it was on DVD, I lost it but I am very glad that it was re released on bluray. This movie is as close as you can get to the Bible for an animated movie, besides Moses & the ten commandments which is the closest, I would definitely recommend this movie, it was awesome.

I’m not too religious, but Exodus has always been my favorite story from the Old Testament. This animated version is fantastic; the sumptuous color palette, the characterizations, and the music is all wonderful. I’m glad it finally, if very quietly, got a blu-ray release.

This was one of dreamworld early animation movies. It was such pose to come out before Antz even. Considering the age of this film the bluray transfer is excellent quality. Even the redone audio sounds excellent.

I'm not religious at all, but I have always enjoyed this film. Great animation, great story. The Blu-ray is nothing to write home about, but as long as it took for them to release it, I am happy to own it.

This is still a very strong contender for most gorgeous animated film ever made. I don't know if the effects were touched up at all for the blu-ray, but the shots with computer-rendered elements look a lot better than I seem to remember from my old DVD version. The film itself suffers from a jarring tone shift here and there, and much of the music doesn't meet the magnificent standard set by the opening song, "Deliver Us." The Steve Martin/Martin Short piece is particularly poor, and I always dislike when pop singers cover these kinds of songs, as Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey do over the end credits to "When You Believe." But it's a powerful story, told with admirable subtlety and a lot of emotion, and expressed aurally and visually by a lot of people working at an extremely high level.
