It is a contemporary adaptation of the Somerset Maugham classic novel. There are numerous differences from the novel, but the film is interesting and touches upon philosophical issues in life related to one's choices. After WWI, the main character came back changed, profoundly enough to alter the way he lived the next several years of his life.

I remember watching this went it first came out and thought no way Bill Murray could do drama. I was WRONG! So too did some critics, but what do they know!? So glad he stuck it out, I mean look at him today! He turned into a great ACTOR and proved that he wasn't just a comedian.

Title says it all.
Like it!
Timeless movie, there was another before it, but I haven't seen it. I like this one. Better than the book (which is rare).
About a man...who, after fighting a war, decides to figure out life, and its purpose. This takes the form of a mostly spiritual and intellectual adventure with plenty of humor to boot. I wouldn't EXACTLY call it a drama until around half to three fourths of the way through the film. There is one character in particular called "Uncle Elliot" who is a riot because of his raucus, dry humor. He isn't a major character, but instead more of a "majorly minor" one. His role is still somewhat vital to the film though.
It is also Bill Murray's best movie to date, yes, even better than "Groundhog Day".
I give this movie 10 blargs out of 10.
