This is a really great movie. Exciting and action-packed, with a satisfying story. Timothy Dalton is great as usual, and a good early performance from Jennifer Connelly

Rocketeer has to be one of the best adaptations made to date. Like "Superman: The Movie" before it, you will believe a man can fly... with a jet pack strapped to his back. Everything about this movie just worked. It does get a bit cheesy in some parts, but I think it adds to the prestige of the movie and the time it was featured in. It does suffer from some minor technical issues (like they never actually refuel the jet pack at any time), but plot holes will always exist in any movie. Most of the effects still hold up today, though now with high res TVs, a lot of the effects are much more apparent. Still, you won't be disappointed .

This excellent movie is a nod to "Radar Men from the Moon" from the 1950s. Set in Hollywood in 1938, where two gangsters from the Eddie Valentine gang steal a rocket pack from millionaire Howard Hughes and hide it at an airfield. When the rocket pack is found by stunt pilot Cliff Secord and his mechanic, Peevy, the adventure begins. It's a movie for the entire family, with plenty of action, adventure, and espionage. In my opinion, it never achieved the recognition it deserved. Well worth a movie night for anyone!

    It's the "Anniversary Edition"... Honest

The Rocketeer is a superb comic book movie. Adventure, romance, suspense, quality villainy, and excellent heroics: what more could you ask for? Well, since this is billed as the Anniversary Edition, you might expect some bonus features: maybe a commentary track and a making-of featurette... but all you get is the theatrical trailer and the feeling that Disney has an evil sense of humor. The movie remains fantastic, and the price is okay, but the Anniversary Edition label in this case is utterly worthless. There's no reason to think Disney will ever release a version of the film that includes the desired extras, but I remain hopeful. Four stars for the film, none for this particular edition.

Don't let twenty years of rust scare you off. The Rocketeer may not be as thrilling as it once was, but it remains one of the best comicbook adaptations of the '90s and a high-flying suerphero adventure sure to rope in plenty of fans, new and old. Disney's Blu-ray release isn't too shabby either. A suite of look-back extras would have made the 20th Anniversary Edition absolutely irresistible, but the film's excellent video transfer and decent lossless audio track makes it worth purchasing regardless.

Fun Disney adventure, reminiscent of the movie serials of the 1930s and 40s. The blu ray quality is so-so, with the image a bit soft at times, but nonetheless a vast improvement over the previous DVD release. The movie itself is quite worthwhile as a fun throwback adventure.

This is one of my very favorite films of all time. It is timeless and yet timely. It elevates a "regular" man to a hero, in a way that's real. The story is fun and breezy. I don't know of many films that manages that, in a way that speaks to anyone. Simply amazing.

I was in Santa Maria, CA when this movie was filmed. Some of the scenes were shot at the airport and the hangar used in the movie was saved and moved to the other side of the runway. It is now the part of the Santa Maria Air Museum. Lots of history and some movie props. Fun movie for all ages and the blu-ray quality is very good. Get this one for your collection.

A Movie Ahead of Its Time

If this movie were made twenty years later, if would probably make half a billion dollars. It's fun, and exciting. The characters are a little goofy, but well developed and the choice of having a Clark Gable type movie star being a spy was unique and interesting. It isn't a perfect movie, and the more bombastic effects are lacking even by the era standard, but it is a great piece of nostalgia and can actually play a playful prequel to the MCU.

I still remember watching this movie as a a child. The story is fun with just the right amount of cheesy dialogue. The casting is perfect, and for lovers of the golden age of cinema, this is not just reminiscent of, but is also a perfect homage to the films of old. What a great movie!

One of my favorite movies now on Blu Ray with a surprisingly nice transfer. The special effects are just that, special, as it still looks fantastic after all these years using zero CGI.

This was a classic gem of a comic book movie long before Disney owned anything like Marvel. Sadly this movie didn't get the love or attention it deserved upon its original release but thankfully we can still enjoy it in our own homes.

A great family movie with likable characters, good plot and some action. If you have never seen this movie before, you're missing out on a good time. It has some well placed humor and not a lot of violence (unless you count tommy guns shooting up a house violence) and they really make you believe that the Rocketeer could be real!

The Rocketeer is one of Disney's best movies. It has an enjoyable plot, good acting, and terrific action scenes. Jennifer Connely is beautiful, and Bill Campbell is a delight to watch. This is good, mostly clean, family fun that doesn't get corny when wrapping up, which can happen often. I highly recomend this movie.

I read the graphic novel way back when and this is a great adaptation of it. Looks exactly as you would expect. It's aged rather well even considering the modern special fx we're used to these days. It's more plot and character driven anyway. And the always gorgeous Jennifer Connelly is stunning in this, when she was so much younger. Alan Arkin is good and Timothy Dalton has a go at being the villain. Good clean fun.

It's not 4K quality, but this film looks great on blu-ray. The audio is very good as well, but not as bombastic as you would expect from a newer super-hero film. All things considered, I highly recommend The Rocketeer, especially to anyone who watched it growing up as I did.

You would think that a Blu-Ray with "Anniversary Edition" scrawled across the top would be chock full of special features. Not so! This is a bare-bones disc. The film itself looks and sounds great, but Disney needs to stop price-gouging us for Blu-Rays and DVDs that have nothing extra to add. I've been waiting for The Rocketeer to be released from the Disney vault for a long time, but I would have just liked a little extra effort on their part.
