Here comes something a little unexpected in the dawning weeks of the Summer blockbuster season, it's an old school action-thriller with a film noir soul, the kind of movie in the hard manned style that a few decades earlier could have easily starred screen greats like Lee Marvin or Steve McQueen. Playing just a few screens away from superheroes, aliens, and water logged battleships is this, a movie relying on acting, emotion, thought, empathy and good old fashion butt kicking. However, don't let me sell you a bottle of snake oil, The Samaritan is the kind of movie where the sum of it's parts are better than it is as a whole, but it does offer some juicy cuts. Samuel L. Jackson, in one of his best roles in ages, stars as Foley, a former grifter just being released from prison after serving a twenty-five year stretch. With no intent of ever going back, however old troubles from his past come looking for him in the form of Ethan (Luke Kirby). Ethan is the son of Foley's former partner, whom Foley killed in sucoomanstances that bear special consideration. Not looking for revenge, exactly, but wanting Foley to join him in a confidence scheme. Foley refuses in hopes of starting his life anew.

If your looking for a great movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat and like Samuel L. Jackson, then this is the movie for you.

This is an older release so u might have to look around for purchase.Samuel Jackson a former grifter thinks life looks better all the family and kid but the shadow of his past wont be a friend. this is one of Jacksons better works, see it.

Watchable and moral in that everyone pays for their misdeeds.

This is a older movie that we have not seen and was delighted when I was able to purchase it from BestBuy at a good price so my wife and I can watch it anytime we want.

This is about grifters who go to far and in the end each searches for their own redemption for their own lives shortcomings.

This is one of my favorite movies. This movie never gets old and just keeps getting better.

One of my favorite actors in an rather enjoyable story.

Mr. Jackson and Ms. Negga are STRONG leads in this apparently little known $5 Blu-Ray impulse buy. Engaging, although somewhat contrived, "ex-con tries to go good" plot with nice dramatic bait and one HECK OF A TWIST for the viewer. You'll never see Nick Fury or Raina (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. reference) quite the same way again. Glad I watched this one.

this blu ray is very strange !! it did not play on my multi zone blu ray player(region free).I had to return it and exchange it for an other non defective .This time it plays without problem .

I had trouble to see this blu ray. It was coded region 1 for no reason,even I have blu ray Zone free !!!!

This movie shows the dark manipulation sociopaths can have over some people and the lengths they will go with no morales whatsoever and no thought but for themselves. Although dark, it can provide some insight into the dark mind of others and make us more aware of those types of people who manipulate others sometimes just for the sake of manipulation.

I bought this on a whim and it's a good "under the radar" flick of Sam Jackson. Good dose of suspense.
