With Hayao Miyazaki merely a co-writer this time out, the Ghibli magic-works produces a gorgeous and heartfelt fantasy based on the novel The Borrowers, selling a stunning sense of scale between the average humans and their tiny houseguests, as well as a beautiful burgeoning friendships between the leads of both parties, with an ethereal score and songs and mesmerizing backdrops to dazzle the ears and eyes.

A Ghibli classic based on "The Borrowers". It follows a tiny family living amongst "beings" or regular sized humans. One day while foraging for food from the beings, Arriety gets spotted by a lonely, sickly boy. Arrietty is reluctant about his offering of friendship at first but soon become close companions. This movie features brilliant breathtaking art and heartwarming moments between the two. A must see for any Ghibli or anime fan.

    Arrived with slipcover

I always make a point of whether these blu-rays are shipped with slipcovers. I ordered my copy in February 2015, and mine was shipped with one (though a little damaged but nothing serious). The slipcover contained a couple stickers with terribly sticky glue that I'm still struggling to clean off. As for the movie, I think it's a strong Studio Ghibli entry if somewhat forgettable. It features beautiful animation as always, and the soundtrack is quite unique compared to their other films. Very celtic. I could listen to the main menu music on a loop all day. If you are looking to add to your Ghibli movie collection, there are some you can safely skip (Earthsea, Poppy Hill maybe), but this one you should have.

Despite this one not directed by Hayao Miyazaki, this film does still retain that Studio Ghibli charm, which also further proves that Miyazaki doesn't have to direct every film coming out of that studio. It's a great film for all moviegoers, and is child-friendly. An example of how hand drawn animation should still be part of the industry.

Got this at a great deal & am happy to finally make it part of my personal movie library and collection. This edition includes a small booklet of scenes from the movie, which makes for a nice little token of art. I'd recommend this published version to any Studio Ghibli collector and fans of clean, family anime movies.

A Charming Look at a Secret World

Before leaving to form Studio Ponoc (Mary and the Witch's Flower), Hiromasa Yonebayashi showed his directing skill with this delightful adaption of "The Borrowers." "The Secret World of Arietty" is a beautiful film that fits in with the rest of the Studio Ghibli catalogue well. While the story is not one of the best the studio has produced, it is full of charm and well worth being watched by all members of the family.

Disney's version of Japan Anime... Great stories my granddaughter just loves to get as gifts. Would be even better if they came with a digital copy. Arrietty is a borrower, living in secret under the house. Only borrowing things that won't be missed. A wonderful story about a sick boy who discovers her family but keeps the secret..

I remember not liking this first time viewing. But as time went on the more I appreciated parts of it. And when there was a Ghibli sale bought this. Glad I did. The backgrounds and music are wonderful. And Ive come around to enjoy the English dub as well.

Being an old kid, this is based on the book which was also an 80s cartoon, the littles. Iys not my favorite and hearing will arnet voice the father seems weird because he tends to do comedy. It is a good story but not as happy as others.

A beautiful animation movie for young children

This animation is beautiful. Every snapshot of the movie is a good painting that can be framed up. The movie shows a realistic view of our world seen through the Borrowers' eyes. The story is lovely while the plot is pretty simple and feels short. It reminds me of My Neighbor Totoro. So if you like Totoro, you will like this movie too. But if you are looking for slightly more complicated movies by Hayao Miyazaki such as Spirited Away and Hayao Miyazaki, you may be disappointed. In short, this is a beautiful' animation movie for young children.

My kids and I are SG fanatics, and Arriety is no exception. The movie is beautiful to look at, and the performances are great and tender. Though the plot is a bit more slight than some of Miyazaki's other films, the characters and animation more than make up for this--and the blu-ray is wonderful!

This movie is based on the book, "The Borrowers" about the little people who live under the floors and borrow items from the homeowners without being seen. It is very well done and has a lot of positive messages for both adults and children. My family loved it.

The borrowers remind me of what happens when I lose something in my house and can’t find it. They are also creative and resourceful with everything they find. This movie contains many scenes that are funny as well as heartfelt.
