What a great CD. This reminds me of CDs (LPs) of old where one song may hook you in and after a couple of listenings each song blossoms in your ear and mind. Great variety, craft and guile. The addition of Richard Hawley on one track is a bonus (do yourself another favor and check out Hawley's masterpiece "Lady's Bridge from 2008). This will not get you whipped into a dancing frenzy, no thumping bass beat, just beautiful haunting songs with witty lyrics and layers of delightful sound.

So, another great band from the uk is found here in Elbow. Please, if you are just starting with them check out their "asleep in the back" album as well. These guys have a such a talent for texture and melody within their music much like the band Doves. They combine soft ambiance with forcefull moments to provide album after album of solid work. This and their other albums are more complete than a singles type album. If you like radiohead, doves, coldplay, embrace and other uk atmospheric british rock then check these fellas out.

One of those rare albums that can be enjoyed from start to finish.
