I actually saw this film in NYC and thought it was one of the most thoughtful American dramas I've seen in some time. I liked it because it made you think, as compared to the majority of films today, which are all cut, cut, action, violence, etc. You have to work in this film, which is not escapist entertainment by any means, but about a man's search for truth. This is a beautiful, poetic film, and although long--which actually I didn't mind, but some might--leaves you with a sense of uplift and completion, even though all the story elements aren't wrapped up, conventional-style. I highly recommend this gem of a film.
