A great production - see my review

This was epic. It allowed our "younger" audience ( say 7yrs to 27 yrs) to see a redo of one of the greatest shows of all time with a contemporary artist. Many in this age group don't even know that the play/movie existed. Sure, when they see the original movie they will see the difference of seasoned actors/actresses, but it probably won't matter because they are a more accepting generation. This live filmed show is a reminder of the beauty of this story, how wonderful musical productions are, how exciting and remarkable a live show is, that we need alot more cultural and family entertainment available on TV, and actually gives our "kids" a teaching moment in that it showed them that young children and young adults can achieve great things if they have a goal and work hard, Many in the cast were new to acting (including Carrie Underwood) - it was exciting to watch these people take on such a huge responsibility to the VonTrapp Family and to the film industry and to deliver an exceptional product. There is alot of positive in this production.

Acceptable, if you have an open mind

If you go into this comparing it to the Julie Andrews movie version, you are bound to be disappointed. Accept it for what it is, a live-televised stage production with moments that range from very good (I defy you to not enjoy Audra McDonald's 'Climb Ev'ry Mountain') to unfortunate (Any moment Carrie Underwood attempts to act. Sorry, Carrie). I found it quite enjoyable and I look forward to seeing what other live events NBC may produce in the future.

This is a great production since nothing like a play had been broadcast live on tv in 50 years and the dvd lets you re live it.

Carrie Underwood is such an amazing singer. A nice twist on the classic.

    "Don't Bother"

We watched it the second time it was on TV (or tried to anyway) even after a friend said, "Don't Bother." When she started singing the yodeling song during the rainstorm (the Rev. Mother had already sung My Favorite Things) , we couldn't stand it any longer.
