Classic movie, great blu ray, tons of special features and like 3 or 4 commentaries on it.

A classic horror masterpiece never looked crisper and bloodier than ever. The chainsaw never sounded deadlier.

Crafted with a pitch black sense of humor and an unflinching eye for horror, TCM is a true classic. The Blu-Ray steelbook is a wonderful addition to any horror collector. The transfer and sound are top notch, and the design of the case looks great in any collection!

Great looking steel book, it’s a Blu-ray so no 4k but still a great movie to own

Used to not like this much, but now that I’m older I quite enjoy it. It’s the type of disturbing horror that we don’t see a whole lot of anymore. Simple and effective. This particular edition is quite nice too.

Classic horror from 1974 on Blu-ray, at a low Best Buy price!

I thought I was buying the lost episode of Walker, Texas Ranger.....the one deemed too violent to be shown on the USA network at 3pm on a Wednesday afternoon. I was in the mood for some Chuck Norris action and I get THIS flipping thing? Gawwwllee.

I’m glad I was able to find a copy of this. I am a big fan of the series but this original 1974 is way better than the other mediocre movies. Sometimes the classics are way better than the reboots. I recommend this to any horror fan.

I was happy to find this steelbook on sale at my local bestbuy. Great find!

After viewing several of the previous editions of this horror classic and still being less then satisfied with the overall picture and sound I was beginning to lose hope.... Until THIS came along! When they announced the release of this 40th Anniversary Edition, you can understand my skepticism. But, after reluctantly purchasing it I popped it in my Blu Ray player as soon as I got home. And to my shock (literally) I was blown away. Right off the bat I could tell they took special care with this one. The picture was remarkably crisp. You can always tell when credits role up the screen if a print has been remastered well or not. Because the letters look so well defined. And the rest of the film did not disappoint. Granted, its never been a beautiful looking picture. It was shot on dirt cheap 16mm filmstock. Its safe to say that its a downright ugly piece of work. But one that definitely benefits from its 4K scan and extensive restoration process! Hats off to the guys at Dark Sky Films for their tremendous efforts in cleaning this thing up. It really SHOWS! Those 70s bright colored short shorts from the famous low angle tracking shot of the girl walking up to the house, really pop. The picture retains a thick layer of natural grain but for once Im glad they didnt tamper with that and try to smooth it out with digital noise reduction because in that very grain lies fine detail and it is stunning. The overall sharpness is a major improvement over anything else that has come before. And as I mentioned before, colors are nice and vivid. This is definitely the BEST the film has ever looked. And about its "gritty" texture, if youre anything like me then you will appreciate that it adds to the grindhouse feel of the movie. Now for the sound. This is where this Blu Ray really SHINES! I thought I was blown away by the picture, but the sound actually beats it. This 7.1 DTS HD-MA remix takes full advantage of the rear speakers and will have you ducking and flinching as the chainsaw zoomz all around the soundstage. It truely is scary all over again. Its powerful and though it will never be a sonic experience like any modern horror film (obviously this wasnt shot yesterday) it is a DARN GOOD listen! Very enveloping and frightening. Even in the quieter moments there are subtle sounds of ambience surrounding you at all times. Crickets, wind, etc. But when Leatherface revs up his chainsaw its like watching it for the first time all over again. Its truely a revelation. As for the special features, this release is packed with enlightening bonus content both recycled and brand new features that are sure to peak your interest. Its always fun to hear war stories about the actors' and filmmakers' experiences while making this horror masterpiece. And as an added bonus, it also comes with standard definition DVDs of the film and the special features (4 discs in all) so thats a plus. The only reason I didnt give it a flawless 5-star rating is because it doesnt have any other language tracks. Just the new 7.1 mix, the 5.1 track, a 2.0 stereo track and the original mono sound. But it woulda been cool to have a Spanish language audio track or something. Other than that its amazing and, in my opinion, the DEFINITIVE version of this cult classic!
