"Umbrellas of Cherbourg"-"La La Land" on steroids

If you liked "La La Land", you'll LOVE the 1964 French musical "Umbrellas Of Cherbourg"! It's part of the superb Criterion Collection, where a quality image is always job 1. The whole movie is done in song, more like an opera than "La La Land". But due to the marvelous, romantic music of French composer Michele Legrand and the colorful direction of Jacques Demy, it has a modern, even frantic pace that will please even those who would never step inside an opera hall. Demy fills the scenes in rich, saturated colors that make even a drab French street look like a painting. It's all about two young people hopelessly in love (Catherine Deneuve and Nino Castelnuovo) but their dreams come apart at the seams due to the young man's draft notice to fight in the Algerian War.
I would recommend this to a friend

Everyone has told me for years about this film and how amazing it is. I resisted for a while but eventually purchased it and how right they are!
