One of the scariest movies I have ever seen

"The Unborn" is a unique horror movie in that it explores something new - a girl being haunted by a demon from Jewish folklore, who wishes to be 'reborn' through her, after failing to possess her twin brother who died in utero. The young woman in question is Casey [Odette Yustman] who suddenly finds herself being haunted by visions of a young boy who has strange, haunting eyes. With the help of her boyfriend and best friend, Casey finds a link between the visions and an old Holocaust survivor who knew Casey's mother before she [Casey's mom] killed herself. Gary Oldman plays a supporting role as Rabbi Sendak who tries to help Casey, as does Idris Elba as an Episcopalian priest. now.. the film does borrow scenes from other movies, like a take on the creepy spider-walking old lady from "The Exorcist 3", the old monster in the mirror gimmick, and the almost subliminal quick shots of demonic faces as used by William Friedkin in the original "Exorcist". i'll admit, some of the most appealing images in "The Unborn" are that of Odette Yustman. The camera (and seemingly the film-makers) adore this beautiful woman, and even though much was made of the "exploitation" of her physical appearance in the film. she does help make the film a memorable experience. if you didn't know? Odette starred in last year's "Cloverfield", this year's "The Unborn", and recently signed on for a remake of an obscure UK horror film entitled "And Soon the Darkness". With this kind of track record she is well along her way as a "scream queen", and she does have several scenes in "The Unborn" where she has the opportunity to live up to the title - even when she can't scream; in one scene Odette is bound to a gurney and gagged, but she still manages to emote terror quite well even while restrained and with a huge gag holding open her jaws. As for the Blu-ray release, it parallels the substance of the film, there is just nothing there. The Blu-ray offers both the theatrical version of the film as well as an "unrated, extended cut," but do not think that you will find any more substance with the added footage. The Blu-ray is BD Live enabled, but the only bonus materials included on the disc are "deleted scenes in Hi-Def." These Hi-Def (1080i) scenes give us such memorable fare as: "Scene 90: Casey runs into Mr. Shields" or "Scenes 127-133: Casey jogs by her mom's grave / signs up for classes." The bonus features are good as well I would recommend this as a good horror chick-flick. The script and cinematography is good. and this is definitely worth a view. that's why I give it 5 stars. I believe this one deserves kudos for effort which turns out to be a pleasant surprise. I think you will find the 90 minutes viewing scary time well spent.

Film was better then I thought it would be

So last night I sat down to watch The Unborn. I had seen the trailers and thought it looked ok and thought it would pass the time of a boring night in on my own. what followed was a little unexpected, I certainly didn't expect it to totally freak me out! I was like a child! watching through my fingers in parts to try and protect myself from the evil!! In short, the main character "Casey Beldon" played by Odette Yustman, discovers she was a twin, however her brother had died in the womb. As the film progresses she discovers terrible things happened to her family. In particular her Grandmother who was also a twin was subjected along with her brother to terrible scientific experiments by the badguys during WW2. During these experiments her brother died, however his body returned from the grave after being posessed by an evil entity. And this entity is now back to haunt and reak havoc with Casey's life in a desperate bid to "Be born now"... The film see's Gary Oldman back to what he does best - horror. His and the entire casts performances are excellent and you feel a real connection with Casey, unlike so many other horrors where you really don't care if they live or die. The film is very creepy and has lots of very weird twisted moments that stick in your mind. Along with the usual shock/jump moments it is very well put together and not your usual churned out rubbish we see allot of these days. Highly recommended.

    Good horror movie!

This was a good horror movie with lots of thrills and chills, and great special effects. In fact, they should've used some of those special effects to add some weight to Odette Yustman. Not only was she a terrible actress, but she was so sickly skinny I thought she was going to fall down and die half way through the film. I don't like all these scrawny pencil figured women they've been using in movies lately. What happened to the hourglass figure? Gary Oldman was the only good actor in the film, in my opinion. (He's the only reason I gave the acting 3 stars. Aside from him, I'd probably give the rest of the cast 1 star.) Other than that, it was a great movie with a good storyline. I highly recommend it.

if your an average movie buff who likes a few scares then this is right up your street. it's not special by any-means, and most likely will be forgettable to you. The movie is about a young woman named, Casey being haunted by her dead twin bother Jumby..he kills everybody who was important in her life, including their Grandma. lets see in the end once she defeats him she asks himself what did this happen? turns out since he wasn't born, he wanted her to give birth to him, and she finds out she is about to give birth to twins, Meaning he's one of those twins, bc the kid Casey was babysitting kept saying Jumby wants to be Born now. if this sounds silly to you then trust me it is this move is decent at best.

    Pretty Good Horror movie

This movie was by far one of the scariest movies I'v seen in years. I have not been this scared since I was a child watching "Nightmare on Elm Street". The mystery and suspense of this movie will keep you guessing, and wanting more. At a certain age in our lives we begin to realize how unscary movies really are, but this is a movie which brings me back to the days of grabbing for the pillow and shivering. If your a person who enjoys scary movies and is not afaid of a little fear. Than this movie is definetly for you. I can honestly say, "I have not felt this scared from watching a movie in years". I strongly suggest everyone to watch this movie.

This is a great horror movie, my wife and I love it!!! The plot is very indepth and very intriguing. It's a haunting movie mixed with a possession movie, rather unique. This movie will keep you on the edge of your seat with plenty of creepy and jumpy scenes. My wife and I saw it in the theater and again on DVD, the unrated cut. It was great both times! I highly recommend it! Also, some other good horror movies to come out recently are The Uninvited, The Eye, House, From Within, and Martyrs.

    Thriller not Horror

This movie like many others recently is a dissapointment to the horror generation. I wish they would bring us something that is as good as Friday the 13th when it was first released. Back to the review.... the movie was medeocre. The film while trying to be original was just a woman seeing things. I give the movie props for not being a storyline and just going right into the movie. The movie was actually not scary but had a creepy element. Also, the movie did have the latest tred of "pop out horror" where something unexpected happens as it attempts to scare you. All together it was an interesting plot and a great idea but unrealistic and the actual movie was a lame "waste of time". If I had to compare this movie to another it would be the Grudge 2. The same ideas .... same plots almost and the same presentation. This movie is a new principle but has been done already. Please present us with actual horror films hollywood! The movie High Tension is more appealing in all ways. Please watch that movie this halloween instead if you are looking for something to creep you out and amaze you. The french surpass us with that film alone....

From the first scene this movie gets right down to business - I liked that. It won't win any awards for horror flick of the year but this is definitely a "must see" for horror fans like me. Decent acting and good monsters too - I actually jumped a couiple of times. I really didnn't get any comedy element from this movie like some other reviewers mentioned. And guys.....Odette is HOT !

It was all right. It did have some scary moments but the whole story with the Naz didn't click with me. I mean I know that the Naz were responsible for a lot of things but opening a door way to the Dead is just crazy. I was entertained although I have to admit that I didn't watch the movie with much interest because I was on the computer.

Very predictable movie. Scares and surprises come when you would normally expect them. The weird twisted figured in the movie is very much like the Grudge or Ring. Movie was ok, just no creativeness to it. You just feel like I think I have seen this movie before. I guess it is just hard to be new and original anymore.

This movie turned out to be another remake of some Asian movie. So even though the plot was different, it pretty much just reminds you of The Grudge/The Ring/The Eye etc. It had a couple scary parts, which all of the above mentioned movies do, and some jump scenes, but nothing too spectacular. Rated PG-13, so you didn't have hardly any blood or gore. Just scary images. This movie was ok. And I think it's just wearing out this sort of genre of movie.. But since we've seen a lot of these type of scary images before, it ends up just being so-so. Overall, a decent movie. I wouldn't watch it again, or buy it on Blu Ray
