was not crazy about dubbed English at first, but ended up actually preferring it in Norwegian & did not mind subs. mostly became interested in the movie due to Norway being a place i hope to visit someday. great cast & scenic location.

    A solid disaster film, worth a blind-buy.

This was a solid disaster film in every way, with surprisingly good special effects for something not made in Hollywood. We watched the Asian film Tidal Wave not long ago. It was fun, with very commendable effects too, but excessively unrealistic in far too many ways. It was still enjoyable, but a lot of Tidal Wave was so goofy we wondered if the film was actually a comedy, rather than a disaster epic. The Wave is pure disaster fiction, based on something that supposedly did, and one day may again, happen. Action junkies who get bored all too easily with any semblance of character development - you know the type, who apparently doesn't think deeply enough to get that it's the emotional connection to characters that heightens our sense of suspense - might get restless in the beginning, despite the gorgeous locale. But the filmmakers drive this one home without any overt silliness or burdening the viewer with the need to unreasonably suspend disbelief. I'm still wondering what happened to the cruise ship from the movies theatrical poster (no ship that size in this film). But, aside from a rather trite resuscitation scene (spoiler: you know where they try to revive someone, give up and then someone frantically starts at it again before the person finally come to - seen that way WAY too many times already for it to be effective), there's little to criticize from my perspective. The BD includes the original Norwegian language track with optional English subtitles. It also comes with a very nice lenticular slipcover for those who pick it up before the first pressing sells out.

this is a very interesting movie you know it is not in the basement subtitled sometimes these things very interesting memories indeed to see because you get a totally different's perspective on the advance. Menu word in English the actors reform not American so many different acting style than what you used to it is extremely interesting story. It is almost like that that story of the boy who cried Wolf the times and the people didn't believe him until it's too late and there's no time to get out of the valley and survive which Very few you survive. do you survive. But don't let me know where the story for you near by it and watch it I think you will be enjoying it as much as I do. I would love to see somebody else's review this movie to see what they think, a lot of people do not like to watch movies another language they can't understand it and they don't like reading subtitles well I think this is going to read during his suit brought a lot of the other parts have to do sometimes too. It is not all pictures are released in their languages a lot of them are released in English subtitles, I know I've been into some of these countries and see movies released only in subtitles thank you again bill

What Disaster Films Should Be Like

Based on a true story, this film has everything you want in any film: heart, action, great acting, and beautiful moving pictures (I mean, great cinematography). This film cares more about character development than it does about straight action for the entire duration of the film (Take note, Roland Emmerich!!!). You can't take your eyes off the film! I recommend watching it in its native language with subtitles versus the dubbed version.

Excellent film which I just had the chance to see at a local theater (foreign film night). The characters are developed and not the 2-dimensional fodder one normally expects in disaster movies. The camera work is extremely impressive. Best of all - from the view of a science nerd such as myself - the science aspects are nearly all spot-on (don't let the poor choice of cover photo as shown here fool you... the tsunami looks like a tsunami should).

    THE WAVE

The Wave was Norway's official submission to the 2016 Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film, but it failed to make the final cut, and it's not hard to see why, given the Academy's well-known preference for high-toned drama. Urthaug's film is classic popcorn fare, and it has no other aspiration than to entertain, which it does well, reinventing and invigorating familiar elements for a new environment. Highly recommended.

This was a really well made film. I watched it in English subs the first time around and was blown away by the special effects and build-up. Second viewing was in the original audio and that made the realism of the acting so much better. Great fun and suspense! Minus 1 star for no Digital Copy, though.

this is a Norwegian movie. it is dubbed. one or two voices do not seem correct but other than that its a very good movie. it is more story driven than special effects. without a good story does not matter the effects its not a good movie. the movie is well acted and filmed. the effects are also very good. they are not over done like a lot of hollywood movies.

On of the few movies that presents an understanding of ''slickensides" in a fault plane and utilizes the concept to explain the landslide that acts to generate a tsunami wave that is the central theme of the movie and what happens in a fjord bounded in this fashion in such a confined spacial situation which is the rest of the movie.

This Norwegian film , although not as well known in the U S is worth a very good look. The story plot is not unrealistic and actually based on real possible world scenarios. Part of a cracked mountain falls into the ocean , creating a giant Tsunami. Special effects excellent. It has a Norwegian and English language track.

I loved this movie. You don't see a lot of non-american disaster flicks, but this scandanavian movie rocks. It beats 90% of what we are being served up locally. Sit back and enjoy this thrill ride with its stunning special effects, excellent 1080p picture and thunderous soundtrack. Highly recommended.

The actors characters are all well defined and you actually care about them. The scenery on display is beautiful. The Blu-ray looks great as well. Not as good as The Impossible but still worth watching for sure.

I'd read some glowing reviews for The Wave, and decided to purchase the Blu-ray. I love disaster movies, and this film from Norway does the genre proud. It's well-made and well-written - great characters and great effects. My only complaint is that I wish there were more effects shots.

Subtitles tend to fade away with is movie. It's very well scripted and planned out. It's very believable due to the recent environmental phenomenological events which have occurred. Some of the scenes are questionable by the actors course of action but it's a great movie

I didn't think I would like this because of the sub titles but it was on Netflix so I watched it anyway. And I was glad I did! I liked it so much I bought it. What a great movie. The scenery is beautiful and the move tense and exciting. I highly recommend it.

Great foreign film with a lot of dramatic tension and great character development for a movie you would think is just about a wave destroying a city. There's definitely more here and you should check it out. Highly recommend this one. It's a good watch!!!

There is not a dull moment in The Wave. I love that it is taken place in Norway with such a beautiful locale. It's hard to believe that anything so frightening can happen at a place as pretty. It will keep you at the edge of your seat!!!
