The Wonderful 101 released on the Wii U back in August 2013 and was a great original game from Platinum games. This latest remaster also available on Switch and Steam plays well and runs smoother. While the original was a dual screen 720p experience, this game runs at 1080p on both PS4 and Switch, and up to 4K on Steam. The resolution boost is great and if you have a PS4 Pro or PS5 you'll get a fairly smooth 60fps experience. While it would have been nice to see this game run at 1440p or even 4K 30 on PS4 Pro (or better with backwards compatibility on the PS5), this game is incredibly fast paced and a great experience on any modern console (Switch included).
The gameplay has you controlling a group of characters with typically one as a team leader (Wonder Red). You'll pick up additional characters as you play, up to 100, yourself controlling them being the 101. This remastered edition also features a few bonus characters including unlockable through codes characters like Platinum's own, Bayonetta.
Abilities were controlled through wipe patterns on the Wii U GamePad's touchscreen, but are not a series of movements with the joystick. While different they are intuitive and work well.
All around if you haven't (or have) played this game and are fan of Platinum or fast paced fighters, with puzzle elements, then I can easily recommend picking it up. There should also be a demo on Playstation Store, Switch eShop, and Steam if you want to give it a try before you buy, or just see which you prefer it on.

Platinum Games is popular for properties like Bayonetta and their work on games such as Transformers Devastation. This is a weird game to say to least but worth playing.....definitely for fans of Super Hero or Japanese Sentai (Power Rangers) type shows.
Here you control dozens of heroes and have to use a combat by commitee to take down enemies and large creatures as well as advance the story in the game. You can create giant fists, weapons and paths using all of your heroes to combine. Sometimes the controls can be weird which is why I knock it down a star. Sometimes, it felt better on the Wii U but whether for Switch or WiiU, it can feel weird to pull off certain moves as you fight some of the controls in the heat of battle. Still, it is worth a pick up for the price and with practice, you do get better.
Recommended for fans of Super Hero shows and looking for something different to play.

Great game, very flashy but some things contribute to not getting a 5 star. Game its not for everyone, its very fast paced & not everyone likes that. But the worst aspect are the horrible controls & camera angles. Great funny game that could have been perfect.

This game is a remaster of a Wii U exclusive title. It’s definitely worth the purchase. Controls take some getting used to but the game is really comical and has some great action in it. It’s made by the studio that did Viewtiful Joe.

This game is a lot of fun, but was clearly made for the wii u. I haven’t played more than an hour into the game, however I have been having a bit of trouble using the touch pad or the right analog stick for the formation mechanic that is better suited for a large touch screen.

Wow! Never played this on Wii U so this was my first experience and needless to say Platinum never disappoints. The gameplay is endlessly clever and the music cuts to your soul. One of the best releases of the year easily!

Little hard to control. You have to draw designs with your joysticks. I believe this was on the Wii which made it a easier to pull those off. Odd, charming little game.

Another underrated classic from the Wii U. This definitely does play better on the Wii U but nice to have this on other systems. More people should play this

Peak PlatinumGames

In my opinion this is peak PlatinumGames action. If you grew up watching Power Rangers, or other super sentai shows, then you’ll feel right at home with this story. But the story takes a back seat to the high octane gameplay. Controlling 100 characters seems overwhelming at first but in actuality you control one character and the other 99 are followers. There’s a wide variety of special moves that leads to bread combo potential. You could play the whole game through and still barely scratch the surface of the gameplay depth here. Would definitely recommend if action games are your jam.

Another excellent game from the even more excellent people at Platinum Games and directed by the always creative and forward-thinking Hideki Kamiya. It's an interesting combination of Kamiya's previous work in a way. It has the aesthetic of Viewfiful Joe along with its meter management for the wonderliner; Bayonetta and Devil May Cry's combo and variety oriented combat systems; and Okami's drawing mechanics. It's just a joy to look at and play, and while I still might like Bayonetta and Nier: Automata more, the Wonderful 101 is an excellent addition to Platinum's library and should be played by any action game fan.
That being said, it's a challenging game to just pick up and play. This isn't like God of War or Last of Us wherein it's fairly intuitive from the start and then the mechanics start to wear thin (in my humble opinion, don't jump down my throat please, y'all Sony fans are nuts). This is more like Devil May Cry wherein the first play through is just a familiarization with the game and the subsequent runs are where it gets good, and then better and better. This is a game that gets better the more you play it. Kinda like how the Big Lebowski gets funnier for me each time I watch it. But like Big Lebowski, it's not for everybody. You may not have the patience for it, and that's fine. But if you're seeking some great combat that you can really sink your teeth into, check this one out.
One objective flaw, director Hideki Kamiya just can't help but put a "Space Harrier" section in almost every single one of his games and it's always the worst part. Well, it's here too, try not to let it get you down.
Strong recommendation from me.

I never had the chance to play this game on the Wii U, but it was clearly made with the dual screens of the Wii U in mind. Still a nice chance to play the game if you missed it on Wii U, especially now that it has been brought to Sony's console.

Great game to remaster as it was only on the WiU. Having it on the pS4 I feel gives you the best gameplay available. I like how they managed to get the controls to work well with the PS4 considering the WiU version utilized the gamepad. Recommend this game.

Took a while to get the hang of the gameplay and controls. It clicked for me after a while. Never played the Wii U version. Not sure how good of a job this was remastered but looks and plays good in my end.
