Headache Relief and Sleep Aid in One

As someone who deals with headaches and trouble sleeping, the Therabody SmartGoggles have become an essential part of my health and wellness routine. They effectively combine relaxation and therapy, helping me unwind while addressing my sleep challenges and tension headaches.
At first, I was worried the goggles might be too heavy or uncomfortable on my face, but I was pleasantly surprised by how light and comfortable they are. The adjustable headband, made of a stretchy material, provides a snug fit without sacrificing comfort. The padding is plush and fits comfortably around the eyes, creating a firm yet gentle seal for the 100% blackout design. This has been a game changer for my bedtime routine, as the blackout forces me to disconnect from my phone and other screens. By avoiding blue light and using the 15-minute Sleep Prep massage cycle, I’ve noticed a significant improvement in how quickly I fall asleep. The padding is also easy to clean and sanitize, so it's simple to wipe off any face oils and share the mask hygienically.
The combination of compression massage, heat, and vibration creates a multi-layered relaxation experience. These features target the forehead, brows, and temples, working wonders to relieve tension and help me unwind. The goggles offer three preset modes—SmartRelax, Headaches & Eye Strain, and Sleep Prep. Each mode can be customized with adjustable vibration and heat settings, allowing you to fine-tune the massage to your liking.
One of the standout technological features is the SmartRelax mode, which uses a biometric sensor to sync the vibration pattern with your heart rate. This personalized touch is very innovative and helps me relax even more deeply.
For those who like to bring their relaxation on the go, the foldable design and included travel pouch make these goggles super portable. With a 180-minute battery life, you can enjoy several sessions on a single charge.
These SmartGoggles are compatible with the Therabody app, though I did not get a chance to test out this companion app with the product.
Overall, the Therabody SmartGoggles are an excellent tool for anyone looking to enhance their relaxation and sleep quality. Their thoughtful design, customizable features, and portability make them a versatile and valuable addition to any self-care routine.

A Wonderful, But Niche Massage Mask
|

Overall Impressions:
The second generation Therabody Smart Goggles are a very niche product that meshes the latest in therapy with technology. This device is the perfect gift for headache sufferers, or could make a unique gift for that person that just loves a bit of pampering in the comfort of their own home.
The Therabody Smart Goggles are a wearable eye mask that encompasses heat, massage and vibration, along with light blocking to relax and sooth your eye area. It does what it sets out to do very well, but there are still a few shortcomings that I think need to be addressed. I’ll break down this review into a few categories to help you decide whether this product is for you.
Comfort:
The Smart Goggles are well constructed and padded very generously, with a comfortable headband and leatherette pads that press up against your face. The fit is very tight, and will more than likely feel uncomfortable to you at first. This is necessary due to how the massage mechanism in the smart goggles works, and you will hopefully adjust to the pressure over time like I was able to.
Build Quality/Accessories:
The quality of the Smart Goggles seem great. Everything about these goggles feels robust. Button presses feel good, the strap is heavy duty and the exterior coating feels nice as well. You’ll also get a soft case to store them in and a USB-C charging cable.
Performance:
You’ll have to try out the different modes yourself, but they all incorporate slightly different vibrations and massage movement to target different therapy scenarios. The headset uses air to fill up the chambers and give you a very satisfying eye and front face massage. There are also different heat levels and massage intensities to adjust to your liking.
What all this means is that once you strap this onto your face, you get to experience a pleasant eye and frontal eye area massage. With the Therabody app and the Smart Goggles paired via Bluetooth to it, you can also customize and control your experience, while listening to soothing music and picking different routines depending on what you’d like your experience to be. The goggles do work full without a phone, though, so this is just optional and not required.
Pros:
Comfortable and adjustable design
Effective massage and heat therapy features
Customizable settings for a personalized experience via the Therabody app
Soothing massage experience
Cons:
Can feel tight at first
Very niche and pricey

Great
Integrated heart rate tracking
Blocks out most of the light
Includes carrying pouch
USB-C Charging
Basic functionality works without phone
Heating, massage, and vibration options
App includes matching ambience sounds
Didn’t hold excessive heat
Not So Great
Somewhat bulky
Padding doesn’t protect eyes well
Finicky to get to fit comfortably
Massage mode too abrupt
Massage of temples is too hard and not adjustable
Headache mode puts pressure on temples
Head strap is a bit tight for larger heads
No way to tell battery charge without app
Out of the box the Therabody Smart Goggles 2 looks like a combination of a sleep mask and a VR headset. They have a fair bit of weight to them but considering you should be laying down to use them it shouldn’t be much of an issue. The head strap is made of a thick but breathable material. On the top of the goggles are buttons for heat, vibration, and power. Included in the box is a carrying pouch and USB-C charging cable. There is no power brick.
Setup 9/10
If you aren’t interested in the app features, you can use them straight out of the box. All controls are available via the buttons on top and the beeps are different for each mode. There are also status lights that show you the active mode. Without the app you will miss out on some extra features that make them more worthwhile. Pairing is as simple as clicking to add a new device in the Therabody app, choosing Smart Goggles 2, and following the instructions on screen.
App Options 6/10
With the app set up you can choose based on what you like to with options for Focus, Relaxation, Sleep Preparation, Tension Relief, and Travel Relief. You can also choose on the genre of music you would like and the Time. The longest time currently is 25 minutes. The music is paired to match the routine helping to boost the effectiveness. There are some pleasant routines but the most effective seem to be Sleep Preparation and Relaxation. You can heart your favorite routines to quickly find them later. There are a good number of routines to start but it would be nice to see Therabody add more music options and longer durations. The Goggles do ask for access to your Apple Health suggesting they will save your sessions but looking back into the health app nothing was showing. It might be nice to sync this with Apple’s mindfulness time to track.
Comfort and Fitment 6/10
Fitment is a bit awkward. The instructions say to put the strap above your ears, but if you do that then the bottom of the goggles dig into the bridge of your nose and can interfere with breathing through your nose. You can move them higher up but then they dig into the bottom of your eye socket. The best fitment to cover your eyes is with the strap straight back, but then the strap presses your ears down. It also tends to touch your earbuds if you are wearing them causing your earbuds to buzz if there is vibration. If you play around enough you can find a sweet spot with the strap off your ears and the goggles fitting comfortably over your eyes, but it doesn’t take much to bump it off the sweet spot. If you can get them in the sweet spot, they block out nearly all light. If you have a larger head, you may find the strap doesn’t get quite loose enough as the adjustment range is limited. The strap will stretch but overall, it will fit tighter to your head. The padding around the eyes is decent but not very thick. The material feels like it would hold in a lot of heat but so far no one has had issues with overheating, unless maybe they had the heating function on max.
Usage and Performance 6/10
Usage is a mixed bag. For relaxation, particularly for combining with the app for the ambient sounds or music they can be very effective when fit correctly. A 25-minute session felt as refreshing as a good nap with a heart rate drop of between 20-30bpm. The whole family enjoyed them for this purpose. For sleep preparation you do relax more, and your heart rate does drop, but at the end of the routine they beep and stop abruptly and didn’t seem to help anyone fall asleep faster even though it was nice. The option for headache relief was not useful for any of the family. The main reason is the headache relief option massages your temples by pressing in on them hard. Adding vibration as well didn’t help for the headache. The headache mode would have been better with only head and a milder massage but considering the placement of the air bladders that doesn’t seem possible.
The word massage is a bit misleading. It is really air bladders that air up and down with a small air pump. They work well to air up as the bladders air up slowly, but when they deflate, they do so very abruptly. If you can imagine it would be like someone giving you a massage and after putting pressure on a muscle, they abruptly remove their hands. It takes away from the overall experience. It would be nice if the part that deflates the bladders was adjustable and Therabody could tune them to deflate slowly. Inflating is a different issue in that they deflate hard against your temples. The entire family wasn’t fond of that massage mode. The combination of pressing hard on your temples then abruptly deflating for headaches just doesn’t feel good. In fact, one family member’s headache was worse after trying this mode. Going back to fitment, if the goggles aren’t fitting just right the front massage bladders will inflate putting pressure directly on your eyes. While uncomfortable, this one is controllable by making sure they are fitting correctly. In the end the massage option is a mixed bag. For certain routines they work good while others not so much. The good thing is you can choose the mode to your likely.
Final Thoughts
While the Smart Goggles 2 aren’t perfect, they can be good for certain purposes. If you are look at them for headache relief, you may be disappointed depending on the type of headaches you have. If you are the type who enjoys relaxing by meditating, listening to ambient music, or sensory deprivation you will likely enjoy the Smart Goggles 2 if you can look past the quirks.

Review for
Therabody Smart Goggles (2nd Gen)
If you or someone you know suffers from stress, headaches, or has trouble sleeping this is the gift of the year! These new Therabody Smart Goggles use a combination of heat, massage, and pressure to help ease tension and promote relaxation.
The googles are well designed, lightweight, and very comfortable. They hinge for easy travel and come with a convenient storage and travel pouch. They’re built in such a way to avoid any pressure on your eyes; you can even open your eyes with them on, although they do a great job of totally blocking out any light. The adjustable band makes for a comfortable fit.
My initial reaction to the “compression massage” was to compare it to how a blood pressure cuff feels as it inflates. At first, it’s a surprising feeling, but it really does feel good. In combination with the heat and the massage (on your temples and between your eyes) it is very relaxing. Using the goggles on their own is very nice, but they really shine when you use them with the Therabody app.
Besides providing some great intro and training videos, the app provides dozens of scenes that combine the heat, compression massage, and massage features with music and or guided voice meditation routines. They vary from five to 20 minutes and can be sorted by focus, relaxation, sleep preparation, tension relief, and travel relief. If you’re using a phone or tablet with the app, the audio plays through your device, so Therabody encourages you to use headphones or earbuds for a more immersive experience.
I fall asleep pretty easily, but I know plenty of people who would love these goggles to help them get more rest. On the contrary, I don’t fall asleep easily if I’m trying to nap, so I was very surprised to try one of the sleep routines in the middle of the afternoon. It was very relaxing and I found I conked out quickly!
If I have one concern, it’s a small one and may be easy for Therabody to fix through the app. When you turn on the goggles they make a “beep” to show power up (there’s also a light). Strangely, they make the same beep when a routine finishes. After 5-20 minutes of relaxing massage and music, I found this quite startling - especially because with the goggles on your head, the beep is so much louder, being close to your ear. At the very least, this could be a setting that you could toggle on or off, as you prefer.

Great Mask for Relaxing and Sleep
|

I’ve been enjoying using the Therabody SmartGoggles. They’re comfortable, lightweight, and massage/heat function works great in all 3 modes. The mask folds up nicely and store in a soft case that also holds the USB charging cable. The leather material that makes contact with my face feels great and the strap fabric material is soft and easy to adjust. All the surfaces in general feel really great and in general the mask feels well made, which is especially important for something you’re wearing on your face.
There are 3 main modes on the SmartGoggles - a general relaxation mode, a headache/eyestrain mode, and a mode for sleep. These all use different variations of the massage/heat functions for their intended purposes. The power button serves as a toggle to switch between the different modes. Once the mask is on your face it can be difficult to know exactly which mode you are in, so you either need to set it before you put them on or remember the order in which the different modes toggle as there is no audible indicator to differentiate them. The vibration and heat can be adjusted via buttons on the left side of the mask and they DO have audible indication of what levels they are at, which is nice. I believe these modes can also be customized in the app, but at the time I was using this version of the SmartGoggles they were not yet compatible with the app. Each mode runs for 15 minutes and then the mask automatically shuts off. The mask charges via the includes USB-C cable, though no power adapter is included, so that will need to be provided separately. I don’t have an indication on what the battery life is, but in the few days that I’ve had it the indicator has not gone below the ‘high battery’ mark.
The massage, vibration, and heat functions all work great. The motors are quiet and gentle on my face. The vibration and heat functions where they are adjustable have a good adjustment range and never get to intense or hot for my face. I primarily used this for the relax and sleep functions, but my wife also gets headaches and said that function was helpful for her as well. The sleep function was especially nice for getting to sleep faster, though while the massage and heat functions are great, I also think that naturally isolating yourself in darkness for 15 minutes prior to going to sleep is a big part of it. To that effect, the mask does a great job of blacking out your vision. Some light does leak in from the underside near the bridge of my nose, but it’s not really noticeable unless I look down at it. I have not slept in these as the instructions for all of the different modes end with you taking them off. The instructions do not explicitly say that you should NOT sleep in these, though the bulk of them could make them more uncomfortable than a normal sleep mask.
Overall I’m really happy with the SmartGoggles. It’s going to be really helpful for my general relaxation and just getting to sleep. The only experience I cannot comment on is the app experience, but I think the fact that these work and stand on their own without it works in their favor as well.

Smart Goggles that transport you to the Spa

What an amazing invention by Therabody, who add technology to some pretty neat smart instrumentation already used in clinical and hospital settings and turn them into Smart Body Therapy. The SmartGoggles have little airbladders and rollers, with heating elements blended into a comfortable headset that is also battery powered, and turn it into a quick and lite virtual trip to the spa.
Please bear in mind, you absolutely need to use the Therabody app to pair the SmartGoggles to get the most out of these headsets. The Goggles will not pair to the iPhone without the app, at least on iPhone. It doesn't even see it and you can't pair to it like you could with Gen1. The instructions also tell you to pair manually but it simply doesn't work, like it is using some encrypted or secure pairing connection, which is fine by me.
This is ideal because the experience of using the Goggles are enhanced and would not be complete without the app in my opinion. Normally there are 3 different preset settings on the Goggles that let you choose between 15 minute routines: SmartRelax, Headaches & Eye Strain, and Sleep Prep. You can also modify the level of vibration and heat on the other temple. The presets in the app however, have much more detailed and varied routines along with audio that matches the routine. You also see the level of vibration and heat and can change them before starting the routine.
Lastly, the heart rate monitor tells you what your current, starting and ending beats per minute are to show you how much you relaxed during the routine. Super cool and soothing. I actually use it to wind down at night, but also if I want to relax and reset during my work day. The case and Goggles folding allow you to take it on the go either to the office or on work trips. Would be amazing on a long flight or train ride, I'm not sure I would wear it on public transportation like metro/subway but I guess that depends where you live.
Long-term, I could see Therabody eventually iterating these goggles to include VR-type screens so you can actually visualize some soothing scenes. Maybe even cameras so you can see your surroundings while using them. Audio or earphones would also add to the sensory experience. Great experience and tech, I can't wait to see what Therabody invents next!!!

These TheraBody SmartGoggles2 create such a soothing experience. You can say goodbye to restless nights, tension headaches, tired eyes, facial tension, sinus pressure, stress, and fatigue. There are many more things that these will help you achieve and help you eliminate on your life, but the things listed are the things that I experienced help with myself, so I can share my experience.
In the box you get the SmartGoggles2, case, charging cable, instructions
Setup is fairly simple, as you scan a code, download the application, and follow the prompts to pair your SmartGoggles.
Application. The application is the TheraBody application. It is wonderful, to say the least. The application contains training videos, setup scenarios, it guides you through the different things that you may want to learn how to do with your goggles.
Therabody SmartGoggles2 settings - these are on the goggles itself. There is a power on/off button that also doubles as a selection button for which mode you want to use. There are three modes SmartRelax, Headache & Eye strain, and Sleep Prep. There are also two other buttons on the other side that contols the customization of the heat and vibration. The SmartGoggles also have a biometric tracker on them so that they can track your heart rate before during and after your session. That lets you know if your session is working for you.
Summary. These are really great to have. They work very well and are effective. They have helped me tremendously.

The Therabody smart goggles can help you unwind and find that blissful place in the comfort of your home or anywhere else! I think we can all agree the world can be a stressful place sometimes and finding relief without medicine is invaluable. This is my first experience with this kind of product, but I wish I would have used them sooner. Last year I would get headaches behind my eyes and temples and this would have been great if I had it back then. Unboxing the device you get the goggles, travel case and a USB-C charging cable.
Using the device you have three buttons to control the functions of the device. The power button which also shows how much battery life is left depending on the color. The power button also changes the modes- smart relax, headaches & eye strain and sleep prep. Then on the left you two buttons that adjust heat and vibration settings. Each mode runs for 15 minutes and Therabody claims battery life is up to 120 minutes. Each mode has their defaults for heat and vibration, but you can adjust them to your liking from more or less heat and vibration. If you’re looking for something to relax after a long day or something to relieve headaches, the Therabody smart goggles may be just the thing.

I was suuuper skeptical like im sure you are looking at it, can it really help me sleep? Surprisingly it worked for me. My heartbeat was at 95, used the smart goggles, after maybe less than 10 mins. I noticed my breathing relax more. Once done, my heart rate was like 80s high 70s. It definitely worked for me. Id recommend it for those trying to relax before a nap or bed.

I absolutely love the Thera body brand. It’s top tier and I know I can rely and trust anything they come out with. HOWEVER these googles have so much more potential especially for the price point. The app needs much work, and they don’t provide many solutions after purchase, I saw more ideas advertised on the box then in the app. That to me, felt unsatisfying, and unfinished. The googles themselves were built right, and I have no doubt you can make use of them.

The Therabody Eye Massager is excellent. Super comfortable to wear, blocks out light completely, and the massage modes feel amazing after a long day or for a long flight. The heat and vibration settings really help relax eye strain, and the build quality feels premium. Definitely worth it if you want a top-tier eye massager. Only complaint is wish it had a cooling feature built in

Ok, so I was joking about wanting this for mothers Day. I didn’t get it that day, but I ended up getting one. Honestly, I love it, I know they look ridiculous, but its like a little escape. I use them at work on my break. The bad part is taking them off and going back to work. I also get headaches, and this helps with them, especially if my pills dont work. My husband had to wake me up because i started falling asleep with them on. It's just so relaxing, especially if you have your noise canceling buds on.

I had my doubts about these goggles. I get migraines and have a racing heart, and I feel like they help with both. The experience of wearing them is actually very soothing. I am not sure if there are actual health benefits, but I feel like there must be as it gets me to spend time relaxing. I am amazed that they work so well, and really apply pressure in just the right places for the right amount of time. I love my smartgoggles.
