If you’re looking for a message gun, you’ve probably already heard of Therabody and its Theragun model.
Overall, it’s a nifty device, and one that really did work for me, though I do wonder how it stacks up against the lower-end message guns in general. My background is an avid runner who’s never had a real message in my life. I’m early 30’s so age and my athletic background is starting to catch up with me. I was hoping that the Prime Plus would help alleviate some little pains here and there, and one that I do think has.
Unboxing and setup was very easy, and the carrying case that it comes with was a welcome addition. All four message heads are able to be stored in the case, along with the gun itself, plus charging cord. There is a quick user guide to get you going easily enough, though there’s not a whole lot to setup and figure out. Changing heads is easy, the USB C charging port is on the bottom, and it all makes sense to use.
Inside you’ll also find quick message guides: one for back relief, leg relief, body warmups, and back pain.
I was happy to see these as the provided a smooth way to get accustomed to the device and the message heads. I do wish the cold message head was included, but I understand why it wasn’t. I was very surprised with how the heat head actually worked, and just how quick it was to get warm. Most common message head you’ll be using is the main one, but it’s nice to have options.
The only con I actually experienced was changing the percussion speed. While the device is on and functioning, it’s a little difficult to swap the speed on the fly, as the device is vibrating quickly.
That said, it’s not a dealbreaker; just something to note.
Charging was fast, and there is a battery light indicator for noting how much battery is left, along with the app.
The Therabody app was very helpful as well, as there were more routines to use there. It also provides more detailed device information which is useful. You don’t need the app to get true usage from the Prime Plus, however.
So that all I said, I would recommend this to most people who are fairly active in their lifestyles. It seems to provide decent relief at problematic areas with continued use. In a way, it’s very similar to foam rolling, though without the pain and activity need to roll anything out. This is just very convenient, and that cannot be understated.

Use the App!!!

I had the theragun due to pains, I’ve been getting in my neck, feet, and back. When I first got it, the app wasn’t out yet so I was able to just use it and I’ll say the instruction manual is pretty big so you can get a lot of info to get going, but once I download the app and start using that everything changed. The app connects via Bluetooth to the device and will start and stop and set the right speed. It will walk you through different massages and stretches, which is awesome so if you have tech neck, then it will guide you to put on a certain attachment and massage certain areas. It will even give a break for stretching to stretch certain areas. Sometimes it’s areas you didn’t even think you needed to massage or stretch, but it’s all connected and the app is helping with that. Another crazy thing about the app is that it tells you the optimal pressure so when you’re going for your quads and you think that you’re going deep enough, you’re not. It’ll have a little progress bar that will tell you if you have optimal pressure or not and man I didn’t realize how much pressure I really needed. But it’s those kind of things that help you to use the gun effectively, which is awesome. I loved the massaging gun straight out the box with the heated attachment and all attachments it came with, but once I connected to the app, it just became a whole new animal. My massages became more effective and productive. Battery life is great and the power is really good. I love that it charges with a USB-C so it’s very easy to charge on the go. Overall, it is very good. It will definitely help with recovery and also help with any ongoing pain you may have.

To put it all in perspective, I have owned for more than three years a previous model of massage gun that as a runner, I use weekly as part of my recovery routine. From that perspective, I can spend hours talking about the positive impact of those devices on my body and training routine. However, you could need to see why this model, in particular, could be the one, or why you could consider an update from a previous model, like what happened to me.
The Theragun Prime Plus is right now is exactly the update that I was looking for. In fact, after using it for more than two weeks, I confirmed that is a great update and one of the best choices I made.
There are at least six elements that make this option better than most:
1. - The heat option. This model includes not only the traditional attachments that percuss in your muscles but one of the attachments (included in the kit) is heated. Because of that, you can regulate not only the intensity of the massage but also the temperature of the massage. A game changer!, notably for routines before the training when you need warmer muscles in recovery. Note that the gun has five levels of speed and three levels of heat, so you can be sure that the massage is adapted to your needs.
2.- Design, this is more than aesthetics, this triangle design is a very smart way of delivering massage to all areas of your body. In fact, the triangle form allows you to access for self-massage areas that before remained inaccessible or forced my hand position to a very unnatural. With an inverted L form from my previous model, there were areas on the back that were only accessible with the help of someone else.
3.- In addition to the design, one big aspect is the size and weight, which helps in your massage routine. The 1.38 lbs makes it a lot easier to keep you massaging an area of difficult access without overcharging one of your arms.
4.- The combo is great. The gun comes with three heads (attachments) to use depending on the size, area, or type of problem you plan to address: tenderness, tensioned muscles, pain… All is organized, with the power cable, in a nice handbag perfect for your gym bag.
The replacement of the attachments is super simple and only requite twisting a bit one before you bring the new one.
5.- A huge battery power. After more than 20 hours of usage, I still haven’t needed to do a recharge.
6.- A very simple operation that is very intuitive for all types of users. Yes, there is the great Theragun app available but with the manual option with the two buttons, you can also do the job for regular and non-sophisticated users like my wife.
A final big consideration for the Therabody app. I need to recognize that, being so new, the model that I have was not available at first and it took one week to update it but the IT guys did an amazing job. The app and the gun connect automatically by Bluetooth. Only need to create your profile, as detailed as interested you are in sharing your data, and start to enjoy the different routines proposed.
Easy to download from the Play Store, just by scanning the code in the box.
The app is a second game-changer. Probably your pain guides your hand in the area where you need the massage but with the Therabody app you can evolve to a more professional type of service. In fact, the routines are not proposed using the names of your muscles or with fancy muscular injuries’ names but simply with the need for the problem you plan to solve or the sports activity you plan to prepare yourself for. So simple like: “app I have back pain” serves to identify the attachment you need to use and the app will define time, heat, and intensity. This is the closest to having your smart therapist with you and while massaging you can still adjust the parameters to your own massage. Also, a very good idea, if you are open to playing with the app, are the “saved routines” and the “personalized routines”. In the first one, you can save those that you enjoyed the most. With the second option, the Therabody app syncs with your other apps (now Strava and Google Fit) to, based on the recorded activity made by you define your training needs.
I use a different app for my routines. This was a limit at first until I connected my app with Google Fit and after it, I enjoyed the benefits of the Therabody app.
Three minor elements that could be nice to have, in case the manufacturer reads this. More than the traditional “one-year” guarantee. The power charger, just the power cord is included. Finally, the cold attachment which is currently sold separately, could be an additional feature that I would love to be added even if I have a small price increase.
Absolutely love it.

Premium massager for a good reason

The Theragun Prime Plus is a powerful massager that will help you recover from strenuous workouts and other physical activities. This kit includes 4 attachments for massaging different areas of your body, including a heated one.
PROs
- Unlike pistol shaped massagers, the shape of the TheraGun gives a lot of flexibility in how you hold the device. That means it’s easier to reach different spots on your body, especially the backside. And that’s especially useful when you’re using the massager on yourself instead of having someone else operate it on your body.
- Though the app is not necessary to use the device, it gives feedback during use. With the app, I discovered that I needed to apply more pressure against my body as compared to when I wasn’t using the app.
- The app set up and pairing to the device was a breeze. It includes a variety of routines to target different parts of your body.
CONs
- Even at the lowest setting, the intensity is very strong. I understand the need for a deep tissue massage, but these settings seem to go from deep tissue to deeeep tissue. To get reduced intensity, you will need to hold further away from your body instead of letting it “rest” on you.
- No charging block is included. Instead, you have to plug it in to your own USB charging block, though a cable is included.
- If you choose to use the app, it requires you to set up an account by giving your email.
Theragun has a premium price compared to other massagers. But it’s worth it due to its ability to massage deeper, and its ergonomics that let you position it just right on your body.

Powerful and Reasonably Quiet Massager

This Therabody Theragun Prime Plus massager packs a punch, it is clearly a more professional level as far as handheld percussion type massagers go. It came with a nice sturdy zipper case capable of handling the gun, charger cable and attachments. The manual is large (several languages) -but not many pages of instructions and info to help a user work their way through the features and get the intended benefits. You can find all that in the free app.
This set included the large heated head (the heat is optional and selected at one of 3 levels) and unlike most other massagers of this type, this model's attachments don't just press in--they twist and press and lock. What's a tad disappointing is that the "vibration" head is sold separately, and that is one effect I would like to experience. This gun--even on the lowest power setting and the largest and softest included head--will "jump" on the harder surfaces of your body easily. There is also a cold-producing head sold separately. The manual and cards invite you to download the Therabody app, but unlike some other Therabody products this gun doesn't connect to the app, there is just help with the therapy in the app.
It is nice and powerful, and it is not all that loud.

An Ergonomic Massage Gun with Some Fun Tricks

I’ve been using the Theragun Prime Plus for a little over a week now, and I have some thoughts to share. It’s challenging to compare this model to other Theraguns since there are quite a few different versions available. However, this product boasts some fantastic features that make it superior to any off-brand massage guns I’ve owned or tried at friends’ houses.
One standout feature is the heating function. According to Therabody, there’s scientific evidence that heated percussion massage can lead to faster recovery times. In my experience, the heated tip has made the massages much more enjoyable. I believe this benefit will be even more noticeable in colder environments. I’m planning to take this massage gun to Colorado for my snowboarding trip and am really looking forward to using it there! Currently, I use it after rucking sessions, which involve walking with a weighted backpack or vest. I often experience neck soreness from rucking with a backpack, and the heated tip has been particularly effective in relieving tension in those small, sensitive areas. It significantly warms the skin and muscles, which feels great. I’ve also used the gun extensively on my leg muscles. While the heating effect is less noticeable there, the gun’s vibrations are exceptional and penetrate deeply into the muscles.
The ergonomics of this massage gun are said to be improved with a more textured finish on the triangular handle. Although I haven’t used other Therabody massage guns to compare, I find the triangular handle design to be fantastic! It allows me to reach awkward angles one-handed. The textured finish also provides a nice grip, making it easy to hold securely.
The Theragun Prime Plus has proven to be a valuable tool in my recovery routine over the past week. While it’s challenging to compare it directly to other Theragun models due to the variety available, its features and performance clearly outshine the off-brand massage guns I’ve used before. The heated tip enhances the massage experience, especially in colder environments and for targeting sensitive areas like neck muscles. The ergonomic design, with its triangular handle and textured finish, makes it easy to use and effective for reaching awkward angles. Overall, the Theragun Prime Plus stands out as a superior choice for anyone looking to enhance their recovery process.

This is my third Theragun, and it’s the best one to date. I have a lot of pain in my neck, back and shoulders and this beauty has been a life saver.
The biggest improvement is the addition of heated massage! I was a little skeptical, but I was blown away by how well it works and how good my body feels after a few minutes of heat and massage.
This model comes with a great little case, some nifty attachments and a USB-C charging cable. I was still using an older model that ran on rechargeable batteries, so I love that this one is so easy to charge and the battery life is incredible!
I use this all over my body; it works really well treating the arthritis in the back of my neck, the herniated disc in my mid back, and the sciatic pain in my lumbar. Getting old sucks, but this makes me feel so much better.
The app has some handy tutorials and videos for the various ways to use the gun. As someone that’s had Theragun’s for years, it’s not very useful for me, though.
I am so happy with this product and look forward to using it daily.

This a nice percussive muscle maintenance device. First it comes with a number of different heads for different areas of the body including a heated one which is really nice after a hard day moving 50lbs bags of stuff around the house. I additionally like the handle design it makes it easier to control and much more comfortable to use either on yourself or someone else in the house who might need it. The charge on the device holds well allowing you plenty of time to work out all the different muscle kinks.
It does have a phone application that you can tie to the muscle massagers. The phone application is fine, but I thinkk I'm getting old because not everything needs an application to control it. However the application isn't bad and it will pair easily, at least that is something that has improved over the years, with your phone and massager. Once that is done you can control different settings to help dial in your experience.
Overall I really do like this device, easy to charge and comfortable to use to help work out all those knots muscles seem to get these days.

I was a little scared to get this at first because I’d heard from friend that it “hurts like heck.” But this came with a bunch of different attachments in varying hardness and I was able to figure out the one that works best for me. The app is amazing as it helps guide you through different routines for different areas on the body. You can search by body part or workout routine and it will time you through different body parts and you can customize the speed of the massager. It also tells you which attachment to use. My wife also has experience with her physical therapist using it on her for joint pain and it was life changing. She really loves the heat therapy attachment and was able to figure it out easily with the guidance of the app. It syncs via Bluetooth to the theragun and then the app controls the on off function of the device. The ergonomic handle makes it easy to reach every part of your body including the back. Attachments twist easily on and off and it recharges quickly with a usb c cable.

Received as a gift less than 2 years ago. Stopped working (does not keep charge) last week. Horrible experience. They of course refused to take care because of the warranty policy. Any $100 gun from amazon will do the exact same thing and serve much longer. Such a scam
