Bought this for an island, because I didn’t want a microwave on the countertop. Nice open and close drawer button.

For starters the buttons are nearly impossible to read unless you squat down so they are at eye level. They are very light printing on a silver / gray panel. Secondly when you press open or close the drawer starts and stops so fast that it "clunks". It feels like a poorly designed mechanical system rather than what we were expecting in a high end appliance. This is our second house that we did with Thermador and this and other appliances have taken a turn for the worse in the past 9-10 years.

The drawer is not as user friendly / easy as a regular door type microwave.

Drawer type microwaves are elegant and look absolutely awesome. The way they “ come out” of your island or cabinet is way cool. Like all drawer microwaves, they don’t use turntables to rotate food , since the magnetron tubes are on the top and not on the sides, like traditional micriwave ovens. Side magnetron designs need to rotate food for even heating, top ones do not. Opening and closing the units takes a few extra seconds and cleaning them takes a little more effort reaching inside. But if you likely the more “hidden appliance” look, this microwave works great.

This microwave has been quite disappointing. After only 3.5 years of regular use, it has completely stopped working, emitting nothing more than a frustrating humming sound. Considering the hefty price tag of $2,200, one would expect a lot more longevity and reliability. It's unfortunate to say, but the Thermador brand has let me down. In hindsight, I wish I had chosen a more reputable and reliable brand like Sub-Zero. My entire kitchen is equipped with Thermador appliances, and this experience has made me reconsider my choice. If you're in the market for a new microwave or kitchen appliances, I strongly recommend considering other options that offer better quality and durability.
