What always hits me when I watch This Is 40 is it’s ability to be genuine while being naturally funny. What’s interesting is how people seem to find this movie devoid of jokes. To Apatow’a credit, he grows with every film by trying to tell stories he experiences or wants to tell because he sees that they’re not being told (and this is coming from a guy who’s not an Apatow fan). It can be a little mis-weighted when it comes to who you side with in this marriage, but This Is 40 is a wonderful love letter to the hard work it takes to make love, romance, and dedication last in a marriage. No matter the circumstances.

This is 40 brings together Paul Rudd, Judd Apatow and his real life wife Leslie Mann for this comedic coming of age story as the lead couple grow together, overcoming the struggles that life and love bring. While the material is sometimes hit or miss, consistently warm performances by Rudd and Mann help to overcome the scripts short-comings and quick (and a little too tidy ending). Fans of Apatow and of Mann or Rudd will most likely enjoy this and is worth a look even to non-fans. The Blu-ray itself has all the bells and whistles with a nice array of special features and the included ultra-violet copy makes this bargain into an extremely good value.

'This Is 40,’ From Judd Apatow is a sort of sequel to "Knocked Up" except instead of following the main characters played by Katherine Heigl and Seth Rogen, this is all about their friends, "Pete" and "Debbie" played by Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann. While it may be a little contrived and some of the jokes fall flat, the overall acting and great supporting cast carry the movie. Apatow still delivers his trademark of taking serious themes (in this case Midage crisis and the stresses of work, parenthood, money and intimacy ) and working them through situational scenes that ultimately come off both funny and endearing.

Basically a extension of the characters introduced in Knocked Up, this is a pretty funny and endearing gem that seems to be overlooked a lot due to public hatred for actress Leslie Mann, whom I personally think is a good actress ( she is married to the director, so maybe it is some illusion of jealousy that she doesn't deserve the part). She and Paul Rudd make a believable couple in their forties with many recognizable obstacles that most will agree come along with the aging process. Bottom line- if you are ok with Leslie Mann, you should enjoy this film.

Judd Apatow's follow to his hit "Knocked Up" centers on Alison's sister and her family. Both husband and wife are turning 40 years old in the same week. Within that week, they struggle through several issues from financial and business to personal and family issues. It has an all star cast that lends a hand at a serious and humorous look at a loving marriage being put through it's paces.

Having enjoyed Knocked Up, my wife and I were both anxious to see this movie. Since we are both approaching 40 ourselves, we found humor in the very relatable experiences of the two main characters. Ultimately, we laughed, but not as much as we did during Knocked Up. Recommended if you enjoyed Knocked Up and/or are approaching 40 yourself.

I was struggling in whether or not to purchase this movie. It looked good enough to watch and like, but the price was just never going on sale or going down. The movie is funny to e expected, very similar to Knocked Up, or any Judd Apatow movie really! A good movie, just should be a little less expensive. Definitely worth a rental!
