Best entry level sim wheel and pedals combo you can get, for the price, to this day. 4 stars because the pedals leave a lot to be desired, specifically in regards to spacing and the clutch pedal. But for what you’re paying, 3 pedals and the ease of integration with various cockpits is more than what you can ask for.

This wheel is amazing. The reason I'm giving it a 4 star and not a 5 is simply because I had it for about 10 days and it feels really cheap, the X and O buttons are already fading away. This happened with me using it about 6/10 days of me owning it and an average of 3hrs a day. The shifter buttons are pretty loud. If you plan on playing and using this while someone is in the room trying to sleep, it'll be an issue. Other than that, it is an amazing wheel and I am currently using it to play gran turismo 7 and haven't had any issues yet, it is smooth and quiet, except the shifters, but if you play on automatic, you won't have that issue.

*Purchased as an open-box item* But I dont think my review will have anything to do with the fact that it was one… It feels cheap. A $400 product shouldn’t feel worse than a $200 one. That said maybe it was a design choice to get the force feedback to work really well because maaaaan it absolutely excells at that. That and the screen to see what gear you’re in. It’s actually incredibly useful… ..Then you use the paddle shifters. Yes the other reviews are correct the paddles are obnoxiously loud. They are not kidding at all when they say this thing is loud. I download a decibal reader on my phone. It read anywhere from 40db-89db!!! I folded some thin fabric to put behind the paddles so it diesn’t sound as loud, which is almost a legit fix. But for $400?!?! Nope, get a used G923,920 or g29 before you go anywhere near this.or get a tmx if you want thrustmaster. More on that later below. Currently I do not own a cockpit so my main daily use for this controller is moving it back and forth on my desk. Trust me, you do not want to keep moving this awkwardly weighted racing wheel back and forth on your desk. It Works well enough but man the quality of this thing is nowhere near the cost. Buyers remorse or whatever you want to call it, this thing is getting returned asap. I will also mention the dang cable you get barely reaches the pedals… had to unplug it everytime I needed to move it 6 inches to the left of my desk….If it’s only slighter farther away from your wheel it wont reach. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb and dumb.

The way to playing driving games

I feel the best way to play a racing game is with a force feedback wheel and pedals. It is even more so if used while playing VR driving games. Nothing like having that reactive tension as if you are driving, feeling the road and in some cases the damage that you might have to counteract. I have had other force feedback wheels over the years and Thrustmaster has been a trusted brand. They make so many different versions and each has their differences that can vary on preference. For instance, the hybrid drive system on the T248 feels a little “toothy”. I can feel the gear teeth in small adjustments and hear the gears, while the dual belt system of the T300RS feels smoother and less noisy to me. However, the pedal set with adjustable brake tension on the T248 feels better than the classic version of the T300. I also like the quick adjust force feedback of the T248 that isn’t an option on the T300RS. The interactive dashboard display on the T248 is also a unique feature. There are a few things about the T248 that I feel are a bit odd. The placement of the dashboard is inconvenient unless you are driving fairly straight. Like a typical dashboard would make sense centered on the main body of the system rather than turning with your hands. It is a neat feature as it can display things like RPM, speed, pole position, gear and more while in game. It also allows for the quick FFB and mode changes. Another thing is the ability to remove all the wires, unlike the T300 where the power cable is permanently fixed. However, the connections are all the way underneath the wheel which makes it impossible to remove when on a fixed system. My driving rig is too big to leave in my living room, so if I could just unplug and move it, that would be great. But, just like my T300, I have to wrap the wires around something for relocation. As for playing, this wheel is fun, just like others. It was responsive, felt fairly realistic except with fine movements, and easy to use. Some games recognized it and worked without a hitch, some others required setting all of the controls, but at least you customize it where you want it (not wheels fault). The size feels nice and the main grip is leather wrapped, but the center controls all feel like cheap plastic. The pressure on the brake is a bit stiff on the default setting, but it includes a hex wrench and a stiffer spring so you can make adjustments to soften it or increase the pressure needed. Overall, this is a great wheel/pedal system for the PlayStation ⅘ and PC with room for expansion should you want the shifter too. If I could drop a half star, I would just for the “toothy” feel on fine adjustments, but other than that I like it. It all really comes down to what you prefer.

Super high end racing wheel provides lots of fun.

This racing wheel is super high quality. The box it comes in is big and heavy. The wheel is very sturdy and looks and feels high end. The racing pedals are also heavy and steady. They feel very good when you press them. You will not be disappointed with the build of this wheel and pedals. To connect this setup you need to connect a cable from the pedals to the wheel, connect a power supply from the wheel to an outlet, then the USB cable from the wheel to your console or PC. Then when you turn on your device the wheel automatically calibrates itself. It's pretty cool because the wheel spins by itself and stops when it is "level". You then go to a website and lookup your model number and download the firmware. This is all explained in instruction manual. It seems very tedious at first, but when you are finished you feel like it was not that bad. The website also lists several games that work natively with the wheel. So I purchased American Truck Simulator to use with it. It was awesome!! I had to tweak some setting in the game, but that is not the wheel's fault. I was up and running and I had so much fun. I even got my wife and wife's aunt to use it and they had a blast. It is so cool to look out the windshield of a big rig and drive using a wheel and pedals like the real deal. The wheel has great resistance when turning and it vibrates with feedback, but in a natural way. It is hard to explain, but it feels authentic versus a controller "rumbling". The only down side was when I played a game that was not on the compatibility list. I had to setup a lot of features in the game and it still did not work right. The wheel response in the game did not work very well and I had no control. I feel that there may have been several more steps of calibration and setup I could have done, but it was simply not worth it for that game. Again, that is not the wheel's fault, it was likely the game or user error. Overall, I do feel that this racing wheel setup can legitimately be used in the most high end racing simulators you could create. It does not have a shifter, so that may deter one from a high end simulator. But for gaming at home, this wheel gives you everything you need and then some.

The T248 Thrustmaster Steering wheel and pedal kit was much better than I anticipated for My PC gaming system. The unit is straight up SOLID and very well constructed. There is some weight to it, so it won’t slide around much. I plan to buy a sit-down race frame soon, but for my initial testing, the wheel clamped to my desk without issue and was solid. It did not move around while I was playing at all. The pedals will need to be braced up against something before using or they will slide away. The brake pedal is extremely stiff but comes with another spring that can be swapped out for a different feel. Set up initially was easy. Just hit the Thrustmaster support site and DL the drivers. They also have config standard config sheets for about 20 games (the site says it is compatible with these games for now but is adding more constantly.) The first game I tried was Dirt 5. I started with the preconfigured setting for the T248. Out of the box it worked, and the game used it as the default controller. I found the cars hard to drive, so I went back in to the T248 control panel and made some adjustments and played again. This time the controls felt better, and I didn’t end up in 12th, 2 laps down. Next game up was F1 2019. The wheel was auto selected as the default controller. The feedback was on by default which made driving easier, When I hit the rumble strips. I felt it in the steering wheel. When I went into a corner too fast and hit a wall it too felt it hit. Then with speed I felt the wheel become easier to steer. I still need to tweak it a little bit more as the stock setting has a turn radius of 1.5 turns, way too much for an open wheel. All of the accessory buttons are well within reach, but I really don’t use them as there are too many to concentrate on during the game. All I really use is the view, headlights (when needed) and shifters. But are nice to have for a lifelike setting. The view panel on the steering wheel is a nice addition. You can set it up to show rpm or speed and can be changed to numerous views to your liking. Forza 5 was next; I had no issues driving or making changes to the wheel settings in game. The wheel performed flawlessly. Handley beat my friends who used just a keyboard but multiple seconds. I feel that the Thrustmaster in my opinion is a great addition to any gaming PC (ps4 or 5). The quality is tops, the feedback while in game is perfect and the number of different setups or tweaks that can be done in game or at the control panel are almost endless. Great for those who like to change minuet changes or those that like the feel for an out of the box ready to go combo. If you’re not careful, the T248 addition might just make time fly by faster than a Ford GT! I would recommend this to friends and family

    Tight feeling racing wheel

I’ve never been a huge fan of PC or console racing games because the force feedback wheels either over exaggerated or fought with you on controls or didn’t provide enough resistance to feel like a real car. This Thrustmaster T248 has the tightest feeling wheel and authentic pedals so it makes driving a lot more enjoyable. I took Forza Horizon 5 out for a spin on my PC since there been all the buzz even though it’s more of an arcade driving game rather than a racing sim and I had a blast. As mentioned the wheel tightness and feedback was perfect, feeling every turn and prevented over compensating which was another huge issue for me. The red accent on the wheel itself is a nice feature that lets you see how far from center you are. A little goes a long way with these racing games especially at high speeds!!! Build quality is amazing, with real metal accents all over and metal paddle shifters. Buttons are tactile and responsive and the wheel is wrapped in a synthetic leather that adds grip but also doesn’t get clammy. There’s also an LCD display that cycles through various bits of info. In terms of support on the PC, overall I was surprised how well supported it was as FH5 detected the wheel right away and had full support even though this is a PS native wheel and Forza is a MS franchise. In-game things were a little less clear since the on-screen cues would refer to Button 6 but there’s nothing labeled button 6 on the wheel. I’m sure I can remap things to make it easier to follow. The clamp mechanism on the wheel was overall good with a vice type tightening system, but ideally you use the drill through method or get a dedicated racing chair. There was some downward movement on the wheel if I pressed which was not as good as some of my other wheels. The foot pedals also moved around a lot on carpet, I’m sure this is a worse in hardwood. It would’ve been nice if they included some spikes or grips for the pedals. If you’re mounting to a racing chair this shouldn’t be an issue. Overall this is a great racing wheel especially if you play it on PS4/PS5 or a PS game on PC. Sadly there’s not as big of a racing game or franchise on Sony’s ecosystem since Gran Turismo is kind of in a lull. Everyone is into Forza H5 now and that’s been a blast causing mayhem in that game with this wheel!!!

    Love racing games again

I moved away from pure racing games because games like GTA 5 gave me the balance of driving and open world exploration. Using a regular controller to drive Gran Turismo or GTA so there was not much of an experience difference and the games are focused on what car I drive or the mods I put in the cars. However, if you are a frustrated racecar driver like me, the controller pad is just not doing you right. A real racing wheel controller gives real justice to these racing games. This Thrustmaster racing wheel reminded me why I love driving in the first place. First, the set up. The wheel is well-built. The feel of the wheel and the stability of the base is very real. It is very sturdy and the supporting components are solid. It is plug and play --instructions are a little tricky. My racing wheel was not recognized right away—it was going to the PC settings but once I figured out what buttons to press, it connected to my PS4 Pro easily. It’s not difficult, something that is just not written on the manual. Now the wheel definitely needs a sturdy base—like an actual table at least and the pedals have to be secure so they don’t roll when you step on it. For the ones who are more prepared for this like enthusiasts, I am sure it won’t be a problem. For me, having one for the first time, I just needed a secure desk and a floor stopper to keep the pedals in place. Luckily, my first set up was just on the TV console itself—pulled back of course so my 90 inch TV is not screaming at me. The manual was not easy enough, to help me navigate through customizations, but I just tinkered with it and you cannot go wrong on the buttons and options. I put on some Need for Speed, changed the view to first person and it blew me away. The steering responsiveness is insane. The pull of the wheel when I am drifting, the feedback when the wheels are burning out, the resistance when you are fast around curves, are accurate. Even the speed as you step down on the pedal is the right amount of throttle. I really felt like I was on the road. Heck, muscle memory even forced my hands to go for the turn signal (which it does not have)—only because that’s how real it felt. I put on Dirt 5, and the steering settings are different too—because I was now driving on dirt—so I can really feel the sliding and the movement of the steering wheel as I am drifting. The steering precision—seriously—you cannot replicate that on a regular controller. Then the steering wheel display is pretty cool too—speed, RPM—in sync with what you see on the TV screen. I don’t even know why I have not gotten these before. I think I missed out on a lot. I am glad this Thrustmaster opened my eyes to what I have been missing. Thank heavens (and this steering wheel) for being able to mimic the driving experience at the comfort of my own living room. Everyone’s on hybrid work-from-home and gas prices are high. But this—does not make me miss going out for a drive.
