Tivo changes the way you watch TV

I have been a Tivo customer for many years. Tivo changes the way you watch TV. My wife and I hardly ever watch TV in "real time" because it is so much more convenient to fast forward through commercials. The Roamio with 6 tuners is great. No more worrying about what shows you might miss because of conflicts. The ability to stream live TV in addition to recorded shows is great. I use the feature to watch sporting events when I'm not home. If you have a vacation home with decent internet access you can watch your home cable at your vacation home. I liked the old version of the season pass better than the new One pass. I seem to be recording re-runs when I specify New Shows Only. Additionally, if the show is on a SD and HD channels it is recording both versions if the option is set to HD if possible. It should be smarter than that.

TiVo was the first, and still the best DVR!

I've been a TiVo owner for over 10 years now, having had nearly every box they've produced over the years. This, for me, is by far their best, 6 tuners, 3 TB HD for over 450 HD hours of recording... I couldn't be happier with this purchase! The remote is both RF and IR, though in RF mode by default, which means you don't have to point the remote directly at the box, which is great. The remote doesn't always respond immediately when in RF mode, but after a couple more presses it then responds. However, most of the time, no problem with it. You can tell whether it's sending an RF or IR signal by the color of the blinking light on the remote. Red = IR, Amber = RF... when it's not responding, I've noticed the light blinking in red, but after 2 or 3 more button presses it turns amber and begins responding. Just a minor annoyance, compared to all the benefits of the familiar, though updated TiVo interface. Setting up SPs and recordings have been flawless, not a single missed recording. It works great with Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon and YouTube streaming, as well as Comcast Xfinity On-Demand... I absolutely love my new TiVo! I can't say enough good things about it.

We purchased a complete TiVo Pro system plus Minis for 3 extra TVs. It works beautifully. The main unit needed an Ethernet wire run to it, but the minis run off the existing coax cable that they used for the old cable hookups. We had the Best Buy Geek Squad install the whole thing, which went smoothly. I had already rented the cable card from Charter, our cable provider. The base unit has a huge capacity. So far (after 2 months) we are using less than 10% of capacity. The internet connection to the base unit allows direct running of Netflix, U-Tube, etc. on all 4 TVs. We can record and play recorded shows from any of our 4 TVs. The best thing is that we can pause playback on one TV and resume playing from that point on another TV. Ease of use is a huge selling point for TiVo. There are many thoughtful conveniences built in to how it operates. Recording, even custom recording, is a breeze. The season pass (continuing recording of a show) has worked great and is super easy. When speeding past commercials, hitting the play button rewinds slightly so you aren't continually backing up to catch the first few seconds after the commercial. Of course none of this comes cheap. Our system for 4 TVs cost about $2,000 including installation and lifetime subscriptions to the TiVo service. Subscriptions are mandatory and possibly a bit cheaper if you go the lifetime route rather than monthly. Of course if you have to get a new base unit or replace one of the minis, you may lose. On the plus side, you no longer need to rent any cable boxes or recorders from the cable company. Bottom line, the only drawback is the cost, but you'll feel good about the decision long after the pain of the up front cost has dimmed.

It was an upgrade for an existing Tivo Series 3. And was it ever an upgrade (and I liked the Series 3)! The additional tuners simplified scheduling. Setup took some time, but was straightforward. The intelligent upgrades to the interface work well. Streaming to other devices is great!

My wife and I are huge fans of TiVo, this our third machine and we've even popped for the lifetime service on this one The user interface is improved over our older model, and the new picture in picture feature is nice for adding things to the to do list while not losing track of what's going on in your program My biggest problem is that the built in wireless antenna seems to be on the weak side, the unit is in the same place as the old one but we have problems with our signal strength I really think that the older plug in external antenna did a better job Oh well, recording 6 shows at once is pretty sweet, and streaming them to my mobile devices is even better

The Roamio Pro is great for those of you like me that enjoy recording more than one program at a time, especially sports. I am a huge college football fan and love to record all the games on fall Saturdays and then watch them later at my leisure and avoid commercials. Note: there is some juggling involved because the networks, especially ESPN, give you the scores of the games you haven't watched. One way to avoid this is to watch each one for a few minutes each and then switch, or have a second DVR, which I have and pick two games to watch but you have the others in case one gets boring or there is an exciting finish to a game you have it. It is much more than just sports however, if you have the complete cable package like I do and love old movies you can record them and keep many of them on your DVR because the memory on this thing is huge, same thing with other events. I used to have a Premier and I had to record some shows in SD because I didn't haven't enough memory, now I record everything in HD because this has a huge hard drive. Down side for those who want the DVR to automatically skip your commercials you have to do it manually here, which I don't mind. Plus, right now the Bolt only skips commercials of about 100 shows, the most popular. Not worth the smaller hard drive to me. I choose the Roamio Pro because I can record up to six programs at once, how versatile can you get!!!

Upgraded space and tuners. I'll never miss another show or run out of space. TiVo is user friendly, uncluttered and customizable. Much easier to manage than Comcast or Time Warner DVR's.

TiVO - the first DVR and still the Best DVR

It is by far the best DVR you will ever own. Being able to search all of your streaming subscription services as well as your cable provider shows all in one place is phenomenal. It has the best picture also. I have tried all the multi-room systems from dish, direct, and cox contour. They all pale in comparison. Stop getting ripped off by monthly equipment rentals and buy your own hardware. It's worth it. TiVo is amazing.

Purchased to help "cut the cord"

A friend recommended I purchase a TIVO to begin the process of "cutting the cord" from my provider. I've paid equipment and DVR charges for several years. With a cable card, I can now get the TOP DVR provider and skip the leased equipment charges. Opted for this unit over the newer Bolt for a couple of reasons. 1) this unit has more storage 3TB vs 1TB...2) 6 Tuners vs 4 Tuners...3) lack of 4K content currently available. I figure it may be awhile before 4K content is readily available to justify a Bolt.

The Roamio has faster performance and response time to commands. The streaming is now built-in to the device, no need to purchase a separate Tivo Stream. Six tuners allow for conflict-free programming. This Tivo feels like a complete device, not a work-in-progress.

I have been a TiVo subscriber for 14 years now and am thoroughly hooked. I have 6 active TiVo's and find it is the only way to watch TV. This new Roamio gives me tremendous flexibility to record and, with the addition of a couple of TiVo Minis, I am able to turn back some converter boxes to Charter thus saving money in the long run. The Minis also are much easier to use than a converter box.

I have been a very satisfied Tivo user since the first Series 1 box. Before purchasing the Roamio Pro, I considered other manufacturer DVR's and the Bolt. The Roamio Pro is frankly better, has a faster interface and more versatility. The Roamio is easy to use and FAST!

This is the most intuitive television DVR system available to the consumer. The ability to use only a cable card and have the power of TiVo to help plan viewing habits is great. This is a MUST HAVE AV system.

Like all Tivo devices, very easy to use. The only thing I would note is that the remote is very symmetrical so it is very easy to grab it upside down and hit the wrong key unless you visually check that you are pressing the right button. Older Tivo remotes were less symmetrical so even if you grabbed the remote in an obscured room, it was tactically easy to figure out which way it was.

Took a little bit getting them set up properly, but once I got the units set up they're phenomenal. I'll tell you how I impressed I am with Tivo units. I have both the Roamio plus and Roamio pro. A his and hers; (one for my man cave one for the woman cave) these are outstanding units.

If you like TiVo, you will love their new DVR. It is faster and has significantly more functionality than any of their previous machines. The fact that you can record 6 things at a time and stream to your iPad/iPhone is amazing and soon you will be able to stream or download to the iPad/iPhone from anywhere.

We have been TiVo fans for well over 10 years now and have owned about a dozen TiVo boxes. The Roamio Pro is by far the best TiVo we have ever owned. The ability to have multiple TiVo Minis has simplified our home TV network. Well done TiVo!!
