Not an easy product to set up.

I would not recommend this to any of my triathlon
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have now been using the TomTom Multi-Sport with the heart rate monitor (the chest strap kind) for about three or four months. I train for triathlons, and my old Garmin Forerunner 305 finally just died after close to 8 years. Pros on the TomTom: 1. Good visibility display and intuitive way to go from one sport to the next on the watch. User Interface is well thought out. 2. Easy bike mount. I like how you can take it off the wrist band and easily put on the bike and then back on the wrist. Well designed. The wrist strap is also comfortable. 3. Quick satellite connection, don't need to wait forever! Easily connects and transfers data from watch to MySports TomTom smart phone app! Nice integration with MapMyFitness - automatically transfers my works out from TomTom app. 5. Good battery life! Lasts for a very long time! Cons: 1. Swimming - no GPS tracking in open water, so as a triathlete, this is really disappointing. I swim in the ocean, and this is a must have. I didn't even think about checking before purchasing, because if it tracks running and biking, why would it NOT track swimming? 2. Swimming again - it counts pool laps, but badly. It doesn't track when kicking with kick board, or doing some other drills that don't necessarily involve a regular stroke. Swimming portion is not well implemented for either open water (which it doesn't do at all) and lap swimming also. Software/Website - Can’t manually edit the workout data on MySports.tomtom website. Can only edit some of the data that was transferred to the MapMyFitness site. Swim data in particular - on MapMyFitness I just delete the workout and enter it manually because the only data that is useful is the time it took to do the workout. Can’t edit the distance when doing open water swim - would like to change whatever the distance it calculates, which is completely wrong. I don’t even know how it can calculate the calories burned if it gets the distance wrong by about 100%. Can’t manually change number of laps swam - either on the watch or on the website, so the distance here can’t be adjusted in any way. Total time v. actual work out time - this is very frustrating. The Garmin Connect website reports both the Total Time (the total time of the given workout, including stops, etc), and then subtracts time used for stops and breaks, and gives you these as averages as well, so you get the following as an example for a bike ride: Total Time 55 minutes Actual Time 50 minutes Total Average Speed - 15 Mph Actual Average Speed - 16 Mph I wish TomTom calculated these as well. It can’t be that hard to do, just delete the time you’re not moving and then run the calculations the same as Garmin does. MapMyFitness should do it too, and they don’t! Bottom line for a triathlete who is interested in keeping track of the swim workouts either in the pool or in open water, this is useless. Wish I knew that before buying. To TomTom product management - can the open swim and lap swim be fixed with a firmware upgrade? You really should just have the distances tracked with the GPS! And get your engineers to do the Total v. Actual time please, and post that report on the website.

Excellent size and functionality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this watch as it was the closest thing to replace my Motorola ACTV that is no longer supported. I will start by saying so far the only let down is the website, albeit they list it still in Beta and I am sure that new features will be added shortly. With that said, the watch itself is a solid build and feels comfortable when wearing. They offer replacements bands as the watch, and control unit slip out of the band for easy adaption to the included bike mount or to charge on the included desktop sync cable. The menu system is easy to navigate and initial setup was a breeze to go through without even using the manual. When it comes to working out, the watch shines there as well. My initial GPS lock was within 10 seconds and since then I have had a few workouts and it seems like an almost instant fix on the GPS signal. A potential flaw for those wearing bulk clothing, to "pause" the workout you simply press left on the control, press again and the workout is concluded. I can see how this could easily be pressed accidentally while under clothing. For functionality my unit came with the TOMTOM heart rate monitor, however I was able to pair it to my existing Blue Wahoo HR that has bluetooth smart. I was also amazed that it picked up my speed/cadence bluetooth kit for my bike from the same company. There is zero configuration required, you simply go to the bike/run menu and turn on sensor support. It found them both immediately and I had no dropouts for the workouts. Now the only thing preventing me from giving this a perfect "5" review is the backend that TOMTOM currently has. The watch uploads the workout data to their proprietary website MySports, however it is very limited in functionality at this time. They promise new features and functions soon, I will amend my review when this happens. In the mean time it also offers auto sync to MapMyFitness and you can download the data in multiple formats to manually share as well. One last plus, is that the watch and TOMTOM software support firmware upgrades which will add future functionality and support to the watch itself. Bottom Line...a must buy for someone looking for an "all in one" activity tracker/monitor.

Has potential
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I first read about this watch back in April, I was very excited to get this product as I do all the activities weekly. I'll go each activity: Run: Initially, you will need to sync the watch to your computer to update the satellites. If you don’t, it will take awhile to locate them. The watch found the GPS signal within 10 seconds and off I went on a short run. The watch was accurate and was off by 0.02 after 1 mile vs. the Nike+ App on my phone. The top left and right data numbers can be configured to display what you want to see while the center can scroll through other information. I’m able to read the small data, but it may be difficult for people who have poor eye sight to view the numbers quickly while running. A problem with the GPS watch is not having a footpod. It loses the GPS signal while running under a tunnel vs my Nike+ GPS watch. The Nike+ fails over to the footpod and picks up the GPS once it’s out of the tunnel. The TomTom is just lost. Bike: The bike portioned is essentially the same as the run. I unfortunately did not have a cadence sensor to test out this feature but the data was also as accurate as Cardio Trainer App on the phone. The bike mount works very nicely and felt comfortable the watch would not fall out of the cradle. Swim: The swim activity was able to track my distance fairly well. The stroke counter was always off, and you cannot calibrate it. The distance is pretty accurate, but if you take a break in your swim, you must pause the work out. Every small movement of your arm causes the watch to count it as a stroke. Treadmill: The treadmill is inaccurate and the calibration is not really what you would think. At the end of your run, you have the option to calibrate the data. You will basically take the distance you ran from the treadmill and “calibrate” the data on the watch. The watch does not actually calibrate your arm swing to be used for the next time your run. So after 4 runs for one mile on the same treadmill at the same speed, it was always off by .51 and I would alter the data(calibrate) . Website: This website is so basic. You can’t even delete the activities on the site, but luckily you can upload the data to other sites. I used Mapmyfitess, so this may not be a deal breaker for soon. I gave this three stars because it does a lot of the things it advertised to do but not well. There are still a lot of bugs in the watch, but I’m sure TomTom will work them out with updates.

I'll relay my experience
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This device is awesome when it works properly. I got the device new out of the box and went for a run right away. It worked great and I like the setup and appearance much better than other running gps devices. But once I hooked it up to my computer and downloaded the update, it would not track while running. It would read satellites, and would track if I chose cycling, but not running. I contacted the customer service, who was very nice and apologetic, and sent the device in for service. That is taking a very long time though. I really wanted to have this device for my 2 week vacation. That is over and im still waiting to have it returned to me. What is frustrating, is I'd have a perfectly good gps if I never downloaded the update. So the device is very good, I think tom tom really needs to get better on the software side. The warranty repair is very slow as well.

Wouldn't buy it again.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all, let me say that I like the hardware design of this watch, and the fact that it is pretty reasonably priced for a multi-sport device. The problem is it just doesn't work like it's supposed to for someone who's serious about training. First of all, it came out of the box half baked. After about half a dozen updates over the last 6 months or so, the level of functionality is better, but still not great. Every time it updates it wipes out several settings, so if you're doing manual splits they don't work when you go out to run the next time. And that brings me to the next problem. I do manual splits on a course based on specific landmarks, but when they show up on the map they're not where close to where the actual spot I trigger it is. The live pace display is also completely inaccurate, and seems to vary depending on whether I'm running north or south. On the way out it shows I'm holding ;7:30/mile, and when I hit the mile mark I'm at 8:00, then on the way back it seems to be more accurate. The operation of the battery indicator changes with every update. Right now when I take it out of the charger it's not showing full. A couple of updates ago it would show that it was full and then die half way out. The battery life isn't good, but is understandable given the small size. I can deal with that, but the indicator needs to be accurate. Then on top of that the web based application has its own bugs. The Garmin I was using before this was a little more expensive and larger, but had more functionality, and actually worked like it was supposed to.

TomTom Customer Service Destroys Potential
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Customer Service Warning: I went ahead and picked up the Multisport. Though the training part has been fine, the watch refuses to connect to my phone (a feature I was quite looking forward to). Through this process, their customer service has been abysmal--calls not returned, refusal to admit there was a problem at all, etc. Finally, a month after my first call and after several weeks of emailing, they admit the watch needs replacing.... I take my time, debating if it's worth it, and finally call in to replace it only to be told I must send in my watch first before I get a new working watch. To me, this is appalling customer service: I use this watch daily for training. You already inconvenienced me with a defective watch and now you are going to make me jump through hurdles of inconvenience to fix the problems with your product. Poor customer service all around. I will continue to use my watch, syncing manually by hardwiring into my laptop. This is fine, I still get the the core functionality and the data, but I will be upgrading to a Garmin first thing next year. /rant Sorry for that, needed to vent. Get a Garmin.

Worst piece of garbage I've purchased.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Despite Best Buy associates assurance that this device does not require a chest strap (box is vague), it does to monitor the heart rate. It is kind of nifty when the GPS works, and it may take up to 20 minutes to decide if it will work or not. Nice colorful web site to track work outs it does record those work outs (around 35 to 40 percent of the time). Unfortunately, when they update their drivers, you may lose all history. You may only recharge this device with a usb port. save your money and buy something at the toy store for a tenth the price.

Posted .Hi YosemiteSam,
It is unfortunate that the TomTom Multi-Sport GPS watch was not to your liking.
It is indeed true that this watch needs an external heart rate strap to monitor your heart rate. We, however, do offer a Multi-Sport Cardio watch which does not need an external heart rate strap. I am sorry that the information supplied was not clear to you.
Regarding the GPS – You can substantially increase the speed of the GPS lock on your watch by ensuring that the QuickGPS is up-to-date. The QuickGPS will be updated once you connect your watch to the MySports application, whether via app or computer. You can check whether your watch has had a QuickGPS update by clicking left from the clock screen. When QuickGPS is updated you should see a tick mark behind it. I hope this helps.
Lastly, I find it hard to comment on the recording difficulties you are encountering. What you described should not happen. Therefore I would like to suggest that you contact our Customer Care Department. Our agents are happy to assist. You can contact us on direct line 866 486 6866 or via the following page http://bit.ly/1Rk5Yp3.

Not a good buy!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This watch never worked. I used it several times and never got an accurate reading. Once while sitting in the chair the watch was telling me that I was running! I called several times to get tech support but they could never get the watch to function. I was finally told to take it back to the store since it was only a week old.

Disappointed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought it today and going back tomorrow. Right out of the box the first digit of the display is very dim and almost unreadable. The display on my last watch went out in less than a year, was hoping to have better luck with this one, but not working right out of the box, not a good start.

Ok functionality, short lifespan
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this watch nine months ago. It already has a battery life of less than two hours. Two hundred dollars per year is not a good investment. I would not recommend this watch.... :/
