    Eat Drink Man Woman

A bad attempt to remake 1994’s Eat Drink Man Woman. EDMW tells the story of a semi-retired and widowed Chinese master chef at the Taipei Grand Hotel. Chef Chu (Sihung Lung) and his family are living in modern day Taipei, Taiwan. At the start of the film, he lives with his three attractive daughters, all of whom are unattached. The three daughters are: Jia-Jen, the oldest (Kuei-Mei Yang), a school teacher nursing a broken heart Jia-Chien, the middle (Chien-lien Wu), a career woman Jia-Ning, the youngest (Yu-Wen Wang), a twenty year old As the film progresses, each daughter encounters new men. When these new relationships blossom, their roles are broken and the living situation within the family changes. Tortilla Soup I feel is far TOO American, unless we count the phony scenes where they go from speaking English to fluent Spanish for absolutely no reason. The family in this movie was basically American acting in a way that would portray Latin culture to a predominantly American audience. TS’s movie's directors made it no secret they were attempting to simply make this movie the “Latin" version of EDMW, but they were soo incredibly uncreative in that they literally copied EDMW scene for scene, and poorly I might add. You may enjoy this movie if you've never seen or heard of EDMW, but if you have, this movie is pretty unbearable. I mean scene for scene and almost line for line carbon copy, to the point where you already know what you'll see next and all you do is spend mental time comparing the two because the writers were too lazy to just be inspired by an idea and build off of it, but instead used the same idea and only swapped out the Chinese/Taiwanese actors for Latin ones. I recommend Eat Drink Man Woman. It's the true original.

this was a GREAT movie. i highly recommend this movie. this movie portrays the latin american family so well. In my family all the siblings have taken their own paths but we still gather every Sunday and eat breakfast together. we dont have a chef in our family to create all those beautiful (and I am sure tasty) dishes as in the movie but never the less its good food. OMG please watch this movie you will not regret it.
