I bought this TV last year brand new when it had just came out. Even though there were slightly better deals on other brands with the same features, I went with Toshiba because the first LCD TV I purchased was one, and it was still working perfectly 5, now 6, years later. Channels in HD are incredible, and I got on here to look for a Toshiba Blu-Ray player. Knock on wood, but I've never had a single problem with either of my Toshiba products, and they both have impressed my guests over the years with their stylish exteriors. Oh, and this particular model has an LED light behind the word TOSHIBA on the front of the TV so that TOSHIBA lights up when turned on. It can be turned off, but I've always left it on because it isn't too bright to be distracting but bright enough to really add that high-end look. The sound is just fine for everyday TV, but like any expert will tell you, not even the highest priced TV provides optimal sound for sports and movies. The TV provides the picture, sound systems provide the sound. I got a great deal on a floor model Yamaha sound bar, and it is absolutely incredible. I've also hooked my laptop up to this TV to watch movies from my computer and had DVD quality results. I'm a sports and action movie watcher, and I would not go back and spend a great deal more for 120MHz. I've seen games and movies on friends' 120MHz TVs, and I cannot tell a difference whatsoever. Final thoughts - from my experience, Toshiba is a company that builds long-lasting, reliable products that are well worth the investment. I'll continue to be loyal to Toshiba and buy their products when I can, because I know I can count on high-quality merchandise that I'll be able to enjoy for years to come.

Nice TV unless you need a part

This is a nice TV but you better hope you never need a part. All we need is a bracket for the TV stand. We ordered it in January and it is now April - still no part. Toshiba recommends two places to get parts from but they have no clue when parts will arrive??? How hard is it to call the people you recommend and say we have somebody that needs a standard part?

    Remarkably Good TV

Overall I like the features and how it works. I haven't owned a Toshiba TV before but am satisfied so far owning it since beginning of February. I also rarely buy at Best Buy because they are pushy about extras, but this went smoothly. As far as the TV, the only thing I wish it is it had a few more options for aspect ratio, some channels still appear to be slightly cut off no matter what setting I choose. I do like how it can automatically sense the HDMI in use, but I am flabbergasted that an HDTV does not have a way to label the input of a Blu-ray player as a Blu-ray player. It must be labeled as DVD. Perhaps its in the firmware update, but haven't tried that out yet.

Excellent quality video. Great HD video!

The Toshiba performed flawlessly after taking it out of the box. After setting it up to my HD Directv receiver I was blown away with the fabulous video. Even the non-HD channels were impressive on this unit. The audio on any HD tv is questionable at best so I just mute the speakers as I use a surround sound audio system for everything. Like all flat screen HD tv's, the small speakers don't provide much impact. I was not impressed with the method involved with muting the speakers. Most HD sets I've been involved with let you turn them on and off through the audio menu. However, once it's done, no big deal. I would buy another refurbished one from Best Buy as it works well.

    Analog variable audio out !!!

I own four Toshiba flatscreen TVs: (a 32" 32AV505R, a 37" 37AV505R, and two of these 40RV525R's that I'm reviewing), and one Samsung 46". I bought one of these 40's new, one refurbed, the 32" refurbed, the rest new, all from Best Buy. The 32" is used by my daughter for video editing, one of the 40's is used by my son mostly for gaming/computer work, the rest are hooked to Dish Network. I love all these slightly outdated Toshibas because they work fine, great picture, no troubles, but especially because they all have an analog variable audio output. (I'm rating the "audio" average because that's what the built-in speakers are). I'm a 54 year old audio-geek from way back and have lots of cool old analog audio gear. The variable analog-out feature is really the only way to go for connecting to a traditional analog stereo playback system, so I'm hooked on these Toshibas. I'm just not to invest in digital surround systems (these Toshibas do have digital-audio outputs, however) when I have so much sweet sounding Crown, Bryson, Scott, Advent, and AR vintage audio gear siting around, ...and hooked-up, the audio thumps! I'll buy a 46RV525R refurb for sure if / when Best Buy gets some in. All my Best Buy purchase experiences have been trouble-free, just like my Toshibas.
