    my first blue ray player

Everything is nice about this blue ray player, except the load speed. I guess that's probably the difference between a budget blue ray player and a pricy one, load speed. The main reason I bought it is to match it up to the Toshiba TV I upgraded too this past December. There's a technology that Toshiba builds into their electronics known as Regza. This blue ray takes full advantage of it. With one remote I can control both the blue ray and the tv. As soon as I switch over to DVD, it knows to turn the DVD player on. Before switching back to tv, I pause the player. After however long it shuts off automatically. Next time you come back to it it picks up where you left off. I'm pleased with this purchase and saved tons of money buying it refurbished.

This blu ray player seemed good in the beginning but now it is failing to recognize new blu ray discs just being released. It has failed to read discs from netflix, blockbuster, and redbox so it isn't the discs. Unlike most other blu ray products toshiba doesn't have firmware updates for this player at this time. The only updates they have are for the now extinct hd players. What a joke, toshiba is showing it rushed into the blu ray market unprepared. Buy a Sony or another brand that recognizes the importance of offering updates on a regular basis so you can use the player for what it was meant to be used for, watching blu ray movies.

Have a Toshiba Regza 42" so it fit perfect with the blu-ray player. The link worked no problem, so now I only use one remote for everything.Does not make a lot of noise, however takes a little longer than I would like it to start playing the disc. First bluray disc I got from Netflix was Avatar. It was an amazing picture. You definately see the diff. between dvd and b.r. It was like brand new when I picked it up from the store(even though it was refurbished). I was trying to find one thing wrong since it was refurbished and couldn't tell the diff. from new. I recommend this highly.

    Did not start up

I thought this unit would be a great deal for the price, and if it did work, it would have been. When I recieved it, I hooked it up, powered it on, and the front panal display showed "HELLO", and that was it. After letting it sit for almost two hours, and powering it on and off several times, I couldn't get anything else then the "HELLO" on the front panal display. At one point though it did power on, and I put in a disc, which was hard since the remote was not working, and the tray wouldn't even shut once it opened so I had to push it closed. It played about 1 minute of the DVD and then the unit froze and powered off. I couldn't get the disc out since the unit would not power back on at all. I was able to bring it to Best Buy, and they got my disc out and gave me a refund. I would not recomend taking a chance with this factory refurbished player from Toshiba.
