Wanted something to transfer old VHS tapes to DVD. This machine is great and very simple to use after learning how which can take some time. I did have to go online to find out about finalizing the DVD's to make them viewable on other machines but once I found out how to do that it is working wonderfully. Recommend it highly.

Nice multi-function unit with 1080P up convert for dvd and vhs. Nice for transferring old vhs to dvd. Easily records programs to dvd or vhs. So many features it will take a year to learn them all. The only complaint is that the wallpaper display when you power up the unit goes to blue screen with media inserted but not playing. If I stop a dvd, I get a blue screen instead of the toshiba wallpaper. This doesn't affect the performance of the unit but I would say there is a bug in the firmware because the wallpaper appears when no media is inserted and the unit is powered up. This doesn't affect performance but being a refurb, you have to wonder if it was completely checked before reselling or if it was a nuisance issue left unresolved. Overall, you get a lot of bang for the buck.

I was able to connect this to my "record through" converter box. Since the audio/video jacks on the Symphonic "tube" TV were already in use with the "view through" converter box, I needed an RF modulator to keep my current setup with both converter boxes. After figuring out the "quirks", I was able to record cartoons on the VCR side and play DVDs on the DVD side. The major "quirk" I found annoying was that you have to take it out of "timer standby" mode to access any other functions. Otherwise it's locks up. And the weird thing was, even though it's set to record in VCR mode, it would lock up in DVD mode! And I was annoyed that there was no manual in the box. I had to go to the Toshiba web site to print it out.

if i can set this dvd/recorder to my tv ,it should tell you how easy it is to use. i had never bought a refurbished item, but will do it again. a great value. it arrived in great shape and very quickly. thank you.

this unit is well built and a work hours i leave it on all week long it stays cool with the built in fan it has. i would buy more next time .its well worth it Toshiba make very good electronics. hope this helps Peace!

Out of the box , wired it to the TV , both component , s-video and speaker connections (red and white). Tested VCR and DVD... picture quality is superb...Downloaded the user's manual from the TOSHIBA support website and still in the process of printing it... then I will test the VCR to DVD recording...Just to be able to view my VHS tapes again is a major plus...

I bought this unit to replace my old one that started making to much noise. This one allows for more than 8 hours of record time and there are still features it has that I have not had time to learn how to use.

I was so pleased to get this because I want to transfer my old tapes to dvd. I was happily reviewing my tapes to decide what to transfer and what to record over when the tape tray stopped working. I had only played five tapes. The sixth tape wouldn't go in, so I turned the machine off for a few minutes, then turned it back on. I tried inserting a different tape but it wouldn't go in all the way. It came out easily enough, but I'm going to return this item to the store and try to get another. Maybe I won't get a refurbished model again.
