This is my first Toshiba laptop, and I must say I'm impressed. This was by far the best spec'd laptop in the $600 price range that I could find. I've always been a Dell guy, but this is an excellent laptop. The performance out of the box is pretty darned good. Quite a bit better than my Dell Inspiron 7537 (4th Gen i5, 6GB RAM & 1TB HD). The battery life is much better (probably due to the touchscreen on my Dell), and it's a lot lighter. I love the brushed aluminum finish...looks a lot like a Kirabook at half the price. Now, if you're like me and don't mind voiding warranties, you can make this little guy really scream. I maxed the RAM to 16GB, and put in a 500GB Samsung EVO 850 SSD. There are a lot of screws on the bottom, but they're all the same size so you don't have to remember the hole they came out of. You'll need to be a little careful separating the bottom, but it is pretty easy. A flathead screwdriver and a little patience is all it takes. If you don't have a delicate touch, i'd recommend using something made of plastic. Now, I'm booted and logged on in less than 10 seconds. I run a virtual machine with Windows 10 Technical Preview alongside Windows 8.1, and have multiple apps open on each operating system. It just hums right along. For those of you who don't care for Windows 8/8.1, I recommend a little $5 program called Start8 by Stardock. After you install it, everything works just like it did in Windows 7, save for the location of some of the settings. You'll boot straight to the desktop, and the Start menu is just the way you remember it. Classic Shell is a free alternative and works great, just might be a little intimidating for those who aren't technically inclined. I'm very satisfied with my purchase, and have already recommended this laptop to a few people.

There was a sale on Best Buy for this Toshiba computer, and based on the reviews, and my need for such an item, I decided to buy it. This is the best computer I have ever owned. The keyboard is great, and I like the fact that it is back-lit. The computer turns on "almost instantly". It does not get hot like my other laptops, very quiet, and it is super fast. Was happy to get a 4th generation Intel i-5 at such a great price. And I find the battery life to last at least 6 hours. Highly recommend this one!!!

Good laptop for the price. Nice and solid. Performance is good, after you purge the bloatware and McAfee. Another 2 GB of memory would be nice. Touchpad is big, but the "button" areas are sometimes behaving strangely. No media card reader.

I appreciated the weight and feel of this laptop. The keyboard took a little getting used to but now I like it. It is pretty quick and light. Worth the money in my opinion...

I like this laptop. Decent performance. Screen is sharp and bright. Nice looking and decent keyboard. Had some Windows 8.1 glitches (machine shuts off by itself) that I can't solve.

The machine is well-priced for its capability and speed. But I'd like it better if its Touchpad were not much too sensitive: it is driving me crazy, with unexpected screens often popping up. I find Windows 8 annoying, having to constantly switch back to my Windows 7 desktop to find familiar functions. Also, the machine is too heavy for me to use as a laptop for travel, etc.

The computer has a great look to it. I love the floating keyboard and backlit keys. Easy to navigate programs and interface. Very lightweight and sleek. Speakers are great as well. It's the best everyday PC I've ever owned.

The PC itself appears to work faster and is more reliable than my experience with PC's more than 10 years ago (I've been using Apple computers for 10 years now). This Toshiba was a complete surprise, albeit Windows 8.1 is not very user friendly and difficult to get around in, but that's not we're rating here - - the PC itself works great thus far, but still a bit behind an I-Mac/MacBook Pro, etc. in functionality/speed.

It's been a long time since I purchased a laptop and I bought this one for the purpose of web browsing but mainly for photo editing using Adobe Lightroom. It appeared to have decent specs to fit that bill and sure enough it does a good job at it. The screen is full HD which does seem tricky to get in this price range. There is enough RAM for most tasks, unless you are dealing with huge photos and have multiple programs open. The CPU is fast enough to not keep you waiting for anything very long. For the price, I think it's a great buy. The 750GB of HDD space should last a fair while although as SSD drives have come down so much in price recently I will attempt to put one of those in instead. This came with Windows 8 which recently got the free update to Windows 10 with no problems. The only reason I haven't given this 5 stars is that there were a few unneeded programs on there (like a DVD player, movie editor, game demos and various Toshiba stuff) that I didn't want and had to spend time uninstalling, of which the game demo stuff was a little tricky. Other than that it's a nice bit of kit.

I like this product design and color. Looks really good. Great configuration at this price. 1080 p screen is really cool with graphic card. I installed window 10 on it and it works perfectly. Good inbuilt speakers with great voice quality. One part with i does not like is mouse pad. But its ok to work with it.

This computer offers a serious performance with latest generation (as of writing) of Intel Core i5, user upgradeable RAM (just make sure its low energy modules) and Hard disk (standard 2.5") Yet, it's missing a touchscreen and a DVD unit (if you care of either), yet you get a decent battery life, a very lightweight unit and some serious fast performance. My personal favorite is the 1080p resolution, while it takes a while to adjust to it, once you get used to it, it's very difficult to go back to lower resolutions.

Very nice laptop with great spec's particularly if you happen to catch it on sale. Love the back-lit keyboard but still getting used to trackpad. Just got a bluetooth mouse for when I need to work on this computer for longer periods of time. Windows 8.1 also takes getting used to but after installing Classic Shell, it become easier for me to work on. Nice combination of light weight while being full-sized.

I bought this Toshiba laptop because of its low price vs configuration (Intel I5, 750GB memory. The best: Bestbuy costumer service. Computer price dropped $100 five days after my purchase. Just one call and I receive difference back. That was great.

This is a good laptop for the price with a small, lightweight form factor. Has a really nice display, fast processor and more than enough ram.

Looks are absolutely out of this world! Feels very solid and sturdy. Its thin and light. Typing on the keyboard is a pleasure. Touchpad is nice, just as I wanted. RAM upgraded to 12gb for now (16gb max). Excellent sound quality and decent battery life. It has the latest i5 5th Gen which is superb...but do keep in mind that Intel 6th gen processors are right round the corner and so is Windows 10 (though windows 10 is a free upgrade from 8.1 for atleast an year). So if you're very keen on them, then you might wanna wait. Otherwise just grab this laptop till its there! :D I got it for $549 initially through a Bestbuy store but Bestbuy refunded me $50 when its price fell. This laptop is value for money even at its original price of $599. For those of you planning to bring it outside country, it obviously works well. I'm living in India and even the charger is 110-240V so no transformer required.

Fast and easy to use out of the box. Streams well and Office works smoothly. Fast internet connection. Bluetooth connectivity is simple. Replaces an Asus with a Celeron processor that was slow. Battery life is very good.

I have owned Toshiba Satellites going on 8 or so years now. The problem with my past two was that the cables located in the hinges often went bad (got ripped, broken- one was the power cable to the screen, another was the actual power/charging connection was severed by a hinge.) The new designs appears to have the cables in a better encasement, so we'll see how many years I get from it (I replace about every 3 years). I love the backlight keyboard. System runs great. The mouse area is a little touchy, so if you tend to put your hands over the pad when typing, like I do, I recommend turning off that pad and using a wireless mouse.

Always wanted a mac but they're insignificant just expensive. This toshiba has a mac-like keyboard and screen but has the power of an hp! Amazing! And long battery life!

This is a great computer. It's really fast and does everything I need it to do. It's really lightweight and I love the satin gold.

I like the light weight, battery power and back light on keyboard.
