I've had this over a year and I might have written a "eh it's fine" review back then but after using this piece of garbage for this long, I hate it. It's the worst laptop I've ever bought. The fan is insanely loud. The battery, no joke, lasts 70 minutes. That's it. I replaced the incredibly SLOW hard drive with a 480GB faster drive and it barely matters. It's just a really really bad machine. It looks nice, the screen is beautiful, but other than that I strongly urge NO ONE to buy this.

Purchased for 18-yr old who would take it off to college in the fall. After a week she didn't want to use it anymore, preferred the older desktop. I tried it out and agreed with her that it is VERY slow for an i7 processor and too big to be used as a hand-held tablet. Returned it after 1 week.

This 2-in-1 is really slow. Coupled with glitchy Windows 10, it has not been a satisfactory purchase.

Thank you for the review, Anthonyj30, and sorry to hear that you're not 100% satisfied with the performance of your Satellite P55W-C5208X-4K.
I wonder if Windows Update has been busy downloading & installing updates. That's typically the case with brand new systems, and if so it will tax initial performance until the updating process is completed.
Of course, the perceived speed & responsiveness of any PC will depend somewhat on the number of programs and processes currently running on the unit at any point in time, and their respective demands on various components, subsystems, and networking resources. That said, this model's Intel Core i7 processor and 8GB RAM configuration should be performing quite well.
If you've actually been using this unit for awhile now and Windows Update hasn't been active when you experienced the performance issues, I recommend performing a Windows Reset to determine whether or not the problem you're experiencing is caused by a software or configuration issue as any problem introduced by software changes will be resolved by a Windows Reset. Please see forums.toshiba.com/t5/System-Recovery-and-Recovery/How-To-Understanding-System-Restore-Refresh-Reset-and-Recovery/ta-p/342690 for further information and detailed instructions.
Please contact Toshiba support at 800-457-7777 for further troubleshooting help, if needed.
Thanks again for the feedback and sorry for the trouble.

This is not cheap laptop, so You don´t even expect to get any issue soon.
Before the year it got black screen, Toshiba "fixed it" but after few months it got the same problem. The garanty has end. This mean they didn´t fix it well..
Very disappointed toshiba does not honor their warranties.

What's not to like about this 2&1? Plenty...very poor reception for WiFi, slow startup, video started flashing on and off and after reimagining the unit twice I returned it for a new one. Same problems with the second unit plus a big hassle from Best Buy when I wanted to return it.

Thank you for the review, JohnH, and sorry to hear about the trouble with your Satellite P55W-C5208Xs.
I wonder if you experienced these issues with the factory configuration or if it was after making software or configuration changes. If it was with the factory configuration, and if you happened to note the serial number of either or both units, it would be helpful if you could share that information so we can look closer at those apparently defective units.
Thanks again for the feedback and sorry for the trouble.

I've had Sony Vaio in the past and now that they no longer make conventional laptop, I had to go to a different brand. I found this open box at a decent price and real happy with the 4k quality. I don't have to compromise anything for this. Great buy. Great service from bestbuy.

The Laptop Norm

I bought the Toshiba P55W-C laptop on September 2015 at $899.99.
I use it everyday most of the time for work. I work a 8 Hour shift, so this review is completely based on my daily routine.
One of the first problem I encountered was the lack of reviews found online, this computer has so many variants that I wish to disclose my experience.
Problems: Since this computer comes with a 4k display, not all programs can adjust to the resolution, anticipate much small text on many 3rd party programs, viewing angles are So-So and there is a lot of Glare. There are still some quirks with Windows 10, like the computer starts to blink and fade off after turning on from "sleep" (a simple restart fixes the problem). Battery life is not that great, close to 3 hours (full brightness) is what I get. Hard to recommend to use this computer as a "tablet" because its too heavy, it can get uncomfortable with one handed use. If you are considering gaming with this laptop, please keep in mind that it can get REALLY REALLY HOT. Touchpad may sometimes not respond to gestures. Software side, there is plenty of bloatware. I also read online that some people were having problems with the WiFi adapter that comes with the P55W-C, but honestly I haven't encountered any problems with the WiFi myself. Dust and Fingerprint Magnet, I find myself constantly cleaning it, its an investment please keep your computer clean.
Safe to say, I wouldn't consider this a "take it everywhere with me laptop" when considering the problems I mentioned above.
Gaming: Don't expect to run High settings. I managed to play The Witcher 2 Enhanced edition on Low Settings. I recommend using this website visiting http://www.game-debate.com/can-I-run/ and see if the P55W-C can run the game you wish to play. Though I don't consider it a Gaming Laptop, it sometimes can hold its own.
Work: No Slouch here, if I have anything less than 15 tabs of Chrome opened, then I'm having a slow work day. I usually have 2 to 5 presentations open at the same time alongside with multiple excel and word windows (on busy days I handle much more stuff). I also manage Audio and Video Editing. Spotify is always on. And I game with it on my home.
Now for the good stuff: The 4k display is amazing, I find myself mesmerized by it, one of my favorite things of this laptop. The HDMI port on the computer can output at 4k. The Harman/Kardon speakers are a joy to listen. The keyboard is sturdy, buttons are nice to press, and they are backlit (no multi-color). Comes with two USB 3.0 (one can Sleep/Chage) and one 2.0. To me, this laptop expresses quality, feels well put together. The touch screen is absolutely sensitive, reacts to anything with a bit of pressure. Multi-tasking is done without breaking a sweat, there is no hitch, slowdowns nor lag, (this was one of the biggest problems I faced with my previous laptop). The front facing camera is good, probably the best camera on a Laptop I've used, but to be honest I hardly use a Laptop's Camera so I can't offer a thorough opinion. Finally, the P55W-C gets a little warm after 8 hours of use, nothing unpleasant, which is a win.
Direct Competitor: When I went to Best Buy, I was forced to choose between the P55W-C or the M6-W102DX (HP ENVY 15.6" 8GB RAM, 1080p display, i7-5500 processor and.... NVIDIA GeForce 930M graphics). Yes, the HP had a dedicated Graphics Card, which for gaming is a must have. Nonetheless I opted for the P55W-C because my previous laptop was an HP that I totally disliked.
Conclusion: There are problems, yours may be different from mine and that's probably due to how the P55W-C is being used. But nonetheless this is a great laptop, it handles demanding programs that you need to use at all the time with ease, while enjoying the 4k display, the harman/kardon speakers, the quality and functionality that comes with the P55W-C.

Beautiful Screen Surrounded by Compromises
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
This laptop is what happens when a PC manufacturer makes a laptop that has only a single goal in mind. In this case, the goal is that gorgeous UHD screen. The screen is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful and sharp screens you can get on a laptop. If that's important to you, stop reading this review and go buy this machine.
With that being said, everything surrounding that screen on this laptop is a compromise. The trackpad is mediocre for most uses, the battery life is about 4 hours on a good day and the 1TB HD negates any sort of performance you'd see from a typical i7 + 8GB of RAM machine. One thing I will say is that I loved the keyboard and found it to be one of the best I've used on a laptop in some time.
Is this a bad computer? Absolutely not. Go get an SSD and reclaim the performance that's on this machine. The trackpad IS usable if necessary but use a USB mouse otherwise. Keep the charger close with you on long days.
All in all, just be prepared to make sacrifices for that screen. Or you may be too busy drooling over it to notice...

Its a great unit. very versatile and good for pretty much any project. However, I recently sold it to a friend, and she is now having an issue with the battery draining very quickly. I bought it in August and I rarely used it, and she literally had it for 2 weeks and is already having issues. I could see issues like this happening after using it for a few years, but minimal usage and in just 4 mnths?? and already theres a problem?? Not a good sign. I really hope Toshiba or Best Buy can help fix this issue and convince me that being one of their customers is worth it.

Love the machine. Loaded and ready to go with Windows 10 and the flip option makes the machine very easy to share with others. Odd that Best Buy gives you virus protection with a DVD when the machine doesn't have a DVD slot!

Doees not perform as advertised

I bought this laptop a tthe end of July and so far am getting very frustrated with this model. I have a similar Toshiba without the 4k screen and that is why I went this one. The biggest issues are the battery life which is nowhere close to what the specs say of 6.15 hours. If i get 4 hours out of this I am lucky and that is in power saver mode which lowers performance. My other Toshiba with same specs except without the 4k screen runs for 6.5 hours on a charge in balanced mode. this version runs 3.25 hours on balanced mode. If i was not out of the country until December I would have brought this back and got the regular version without the 4k screen.
The other issue as you can see in some of the words is that some lettters add double to triple characters when you barely toucch them which is so frustrrating. I have not fixed those spelling errors in this review so that hopefully Toshiba sees this and can fix it. The other PC has no such issue. I havee reduced the keyboard sensitivvity to the lowest setting andd reduced the key repeat ratee to the lowest setting and it still makes no difference. I cant waitt to get back to USA and bringg this PC back and maybee they will exchangee this for me. As you can see the double characters is a major problem with this keyboard. Grrrr.
I strongly encourage anyone to not buy this version off the Toshiba line and possibly look at the HP versioons instead.
Trust mme, I am a much better speller than what it looks like in this post. but Toshiba and best buy need to see how pathetic it is.

Thank you for the review, rugbymomo11, and sorry to hear about the keyboard issue with your Satellite P55W-C5208X-4K.
I recommend doing a Windows Reset to restore the laptop to its factory settings to see if that eliminates the symptoms you're experiencing. The Toshiba Forums community knowledge base article at forums.toshiba.com/t5/System-Recovery-and-Recovery/How-do-I-reset-my-Windows-10-computer-to-factory-defaults/ta-p/657990 has more details and step-by-step instructions for that process.
If the trouble persists after performing a Reset please contact Toshiba support at 800-457-7777 for further troubleshooting help and, if needed, to make warranty repair arrangements.
Thanks again for the feedback and sorry for the trouble.

You read the specs, i7, 8gb ram, 4k screen and it gets you. But computer lags with any type of internet video I try to watch, making the 4k screen a little eh. It's loud, very very loud. The fan seems to to 100% every few minutes. And what's the point of a 4k screen if I try to watch 4k videos on youtube and it's like watching a slideshow at that point. Either I got a bad model or an SSD would do wonders to install into this thing...

Thank you for the review, Barry, and sorry to hear that you're having some sort of issue watching videos online with your Satellite P55W-C5208X-4K.
Since streaming 4K videos is very network bandwidth intensive, I recommend reviewing the Consumer Reports article at www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2015/06/is-your-internet-service-fast-enough-for-streaming/index.htm for their advice on required bandwidth. You can test your network's bandwidth at www.speedtest.net to see if it is suitable for streaming 4K video. If not, and if streaming 4K videos is important to you, contact your Internet provider about upgrading your connection's performance.
Thanks for the feedback and for choosing Toshiba.

The second time I've turned on the computer, the touchpad did not work. I clicked F5 and did the proper settings and it didn't fix it. Then I Restarted the laptop and it froze and haven't been able to turn on again. I've checked online and this seems to be a very popular problem with the Toshiba Satellite. It's garbage. Will be returning. Spend your money on a more reliable brand.
