I paired the AD7200 with the SURFboard DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem to see if I could get the ultimate internet experience from our highest-available-speed ISP. I haven't yet noticed any big change in internet interactions such as page loading, file transfers, etc., but we have noticed that signal strength is better in farthest reaches of our home. We connect up to 10 devices to Wi-Fi at any given time, and have just started experimenting with dedicated channels. I hope to have better comments in the near future.

I am a cord cutter with plenty of Wi-Fi devices in my home each streaming all kinds of data. I have a 50MB internet connection and this unit does the trick getting data to each device without buffering or dropouts. It is truly next gen. I do not yet use the ad band with my phones, TV or other devices, but I give the ac and earlier bands a run for their money. I bought this at a discount, I am happy and I am set for the foreseeable future.

I find that the signal strength is strong, but not always consistent. I receive great signal in the garage even though the router is in the living room, but then no signal at all. Often happens late at night.

The router I bought was not working out of the box so I had to call their tech support but they were in China and not much help, but I finial got them to send me a new router that is working good now. The router is robust for streaming and gaming but their tech support is lacking. I was told they will have US support soon.

CONTINUALLY LOOSES CONNECTION TO ALL WIRED DEVICES AND SOME WIRELESS. CAN CONFRIM WITHIN ROUTER APP THAT DEVICES NO LONGER SHOW CONNECTED. REBOOTING THE ROUTER RESOLVES ONLY TEMPORARILY. REALLY FRUSTRATING WHEN I CAN NO LONGER OPEN MY GARAGE DOOR, TURN ON/OFF LIGHTS OR VIEW MY SECURITY CAMERA FROM WITHIN OR OUTSIDE MY HOME UNTIL I POWER CYCLE THE ROUTER AGAIN. COSTUMER SUPPORT IS NOT VERY GOOD. I AM GOING BACK TO MY APPLE TIME CAPSULE. VERY UPSETTING CONSIDERING THE HIGH PRICE OF THIS ROUTER.

This is a review of a free product received from TP-LINK for testing and feedback as part of their review program. The Talon AD7200 router is a beast with its Dual Core 1.4 GHz CPU and 2 USB 3.0 ports. It has a total of 8 antennas which covers my entire 2000 sq ft house. The router also has the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 60 GHz band. The range of the 60 GHz is very short according to the documentation. I also like the sleek design of the unit with its black matte finish. It is a little on the bigger side compare to other routers but nothing matches it performance wise right now. It also supports the new AD band which is not projected by the 8 antennas but instead by the internal antennas which focus data transmissions. The MU-MIMO technology I don’t notice any slowness streaming video while my kids are playing games online. One of the other neat features of this device is the auto firmware update. You don’t have to go and download a .bin file and then upload it to the router. Just click the button under the advanced settings and the firmware gets updated automatically. The web user interface is easy to manage and using the quick setup guide you can be up and using the internet in no time. Currently I am unable to test the 60 GHz Band channel as I do not have a compatible device but will update the review once I do get a device that is capable of connecting to the frequency. One of the other cool features of this router is the offline download where you can set it to download files to your USB drive during off hours. I also like the fact that you can turn off the blue LED lights on the router so they don’t distract people at night if it is placed in a room where someone might be sleeping. I received this router free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

    Incredible Speeds

Talon AD7200 Multiband WiFi router was very easy to configure out of the box. It's 8 antenna system makes it look like an alien device. The spec says, they introduce an interference-free band at 60GHz with up to 4600Mbps of throughput using the 802.11ad wireless standard. Using an innovative antenna array, 60GHz supports multiple low-latency connections with beamforming and beam-steering to extend coverage. On top of 60GHz, the routers are equipped with 802.11ac wave 2 to provide a total throughput of 7200Mbps. 4-Stream increases wireless throughput to 1733Mbps on 5GHz and 800Mbps on 2.4GHz while MU-MIMO reduces wait times and speeds up connections for MU-MIMO capable devices. I was able to configure the box easily with the help of the graphical interface. I tested with my Internet ATT Uverse and the speeds of 50 Mbps were closely replicated with the wireless at varying distance. I tried closer to the unit and at many levels and the speed did not deteriorate. LAN speeds were incredible, in fact speed of the host machines were the bottleneck and not the network! I

The first AD router to hit the market. This router appears to have implemented all the latest Wi-Fi technologies including MU-MIMO. Once I connected the router I was able to eliminated two extenders, which allowed me to have coverage throughout the house in the past. AD7200 was able to cover the entire house with medium to full signal strength. I am even able to stream HD movies seamlessly to the outside deck. After connecting the hard drive with my video library to one of the AD7200’s USB3 ports (Samba, FTP and Media Servers are all built in), I am able to stream 4k movies to several TVs at the same time, and at the same time I can transfer/backup files and hold a conversation on the VOIP phone. Thanks to the router’s powerful dual core processor, there are no hiccups in video streams and voice conversations are clear and without distortions. The installation of the router was extremely simple – I was up and running within a few minutes. Some settings I was able to adjust using TP-Link Tether app on my phone. It was very convenient that I was able to update the firmware right from the router without having to download the firmware first. Although this router is capable of the AD, I do not have any devices that support this technology, so I was not able to give it a try. But it is nice to know that the router is future- proofed in this regard. Router comes with a full set of features, some of which are Guest Network, Parental control, dynamic DNS support, and my favorite – built in OpenVPN support for secure access from outside my house. The router feels sold, and has eight external antennas.

    Strong Performer

This is a review of a free product received from TP-Link as part of the review program. I continue to be impressed with devices from TP-Link and the Talon 7200 is no exception. Coming from a C3150 this definitely feels familiar yet better. The set up was quick and pain free. The Tether app to manage high level configurations is great, however for more advanced configuration management you still will need to use the web interface. I've had this running for 3+ weeks without any notable performance issues or reboots. I have 25+ WiFi connected devices and 4 wired connected devices running on this router. I currently am also using the guest network isolation functionality for my IoT devices which appears to be working as expected. I have to say the feature I was most excited for was the auto firmware update functionality (which works as expected) which FINALLY made it to a TP-Link router. A few caveats, I can't comment on AD performance as I have 0 devices with an AD capable antenna. In addition, this router does not yet have the smart connect functionality which is definitely a great feature. The smart connect feature is noted to be added as a future firmware update.

    Excellent coverage and newest technology

“This is a review of a free product received from TP-LINK as part of the review program.” I have tested many TP-link products over the past couple of years and they continue to impress me with their innovation, design and fit+finish of their products. this new router is no different, Once again TP-link has surpassed my expectations and then some. The beam forming technology in these routers for me is a real game changer, I can get a usable signal for streaming HD video in parts of my house that were once impossible to do so. This router is pretty much the same as the Archer c5400 with the added benefit of the AD band, I have not tested this new band as I have no wireless devices to support it as of yet. Setting this up was no problem, the directions were clear and concise and the performance is right in line with the other TP-link routers that are similar minus the AD portion. This model has an improved and more stylish power supply otherwise looks pretty much identical to the C5400. Bottom line is, if you want the latest greatest router available and be among the first to try this new AD technology then this is the router for you. I would expect that we will begin seeing AD compliant devices coming out in the next few months. I look forward to testing this further once i have to devices to support it.

TP Link AD7200 WiFi Router -exceptional

    Posted .

I have used many TP Link product (present and in past). Generally, I have had very good experience of using TP Link devices. With this device, I must admit TP Link has done a remarkably good job. Till I began testing and using the AD7200 router, I was using the AC5400 WiFi router and it did a pretty good job as well. But, with the AD7200 I had not had any operational issues. The only issue was when I tried to do an online firmware upgrade, the upgrade went thru properly, but the mode did not boot, and I had to manually reboot it. Other than this slight hiccup I love this router. My main issue with wifi routers has been that if you are transferring a lot of data within your local network, after a certain amount of data has been moved, the router stops responding and you have to reboot the modem, which introduces network outage for the duration when the reboot is happening and it is just a nuisance. Now I use a lot of video streaming internally among my devices and with this router I have not had any issues so far. The AD7200 is an 802.11AD router with a lot of advance features, at the time of writing this review there are not many devices available that support 802.11AD; since I did not have an AD compatible device, I was not able to test the 60Hz band. The setup of the router is extremely easy, the device powered on immediately and for all the IOS users, with TP link devices, the IOS Teather app a very convenient application that can be used to manage TP Link devices and be able to review the status of all the TP Link compatible devices on your network. The AD7200 router has many great features, like: 1. The range and reach of the Wi-Fi signal (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands) is exceptionally good. I don’t see any areas in my home where I find low signals. The eight antennas on the WiFi router provide a full signal from every corner of the house. I even get medium level signals outdoors, and in order to boost the signals I have a TP Link range extender installed. So, now I get full signals both indoors and outdoors. How cool is that. 2. It also had USB ports, I have attached an external hard drive to one of the USB 3.0 ports to provide shared storage to the devices connected on the network. The transfer speed is pretty fast as well. 3. A small feature, but there is an option to turn off the LED lights on the router, in case at night you do not want the entire main area lighted with blue lighting, you can switch them off  4. There are 4 ports for Ethernet connectivity on the back of the WiFi router, if you have devices that you want to connect via hardwire, this comes in particularly useful. 5. As part of my stress testing, I connected some 30 devices (various devices in my household, both wifi as well as hardwired) and I must say, I was impressed, I did not see any performance issues on the AD7200 WiFi router. 6. There are many other features like VPN connectivity, parental controls, QoS, throttling, port forwarding etc. that come in handy if you are an advanced level user. My general feedback is that the TP Link AD7200 WiFI router is an exceptional and feature rich device with a lot of capabilities not found on other routers. I will highly recommend users who are looking for a reliance router. Good job TP Link. I will gladly give 5 star rating to this product. My review is based on a free product received from TP-LINK as part of the review program.

Great wireless but not so great for wired devices.

I love the wireless connection and speeds. Setup was also very easy. The router has issues with wired devices though. Both my Phillips Hue hub and my Liftmaster gateway, which are direct wired, will loose their internet connection within a day. They won't even appear connected to the router in the TP-Link management user interface. I have to reboot the router pretty much daily to get them to reconnect. This is frustrating as it prevents me from using two of my devices in my connected home. Tech support at TP-Link has been dismal at best. Never had this issue with my previous router. I would have rated higher if tech support would actually look into my issue and fix it.
