As the reviews stated, installing the deadbolt yourself is simple but expect some bumps along the road if your door slots are uneven lol. Besides that, enjoy easy access into your home without the worries of having your keys. It also has an auto-lock timer and an app to operate the deadbolt. And lastly for safety, if the batteries die and you can’t get in, keep a spare in a lockbox outside the door.

This lock is great! It looks good, is easy to install and works very well with mobile devices and services. Installation: Installing this was easier than I thought. So long as your door is compatible, everything you need is in the box. There are the internal and external sides to the lock, the deadbolt assembly, various screws, a cushion plate, a set of keys (if needed), batteries, and a plate for the door frame. I had this up and running in about 30 minutes. It looks great on my door though I will have to fix the paint from the previous lock’s outline which is to be expected. Connectivity: The bolt uses the TP-Link Tapo app to control the device. This app will help you set it up with Wi-Fi and assist with connecting it to third party services. Supported services are Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Samsung SmartThings and IFTTT. I was a bit disappointed that there was no Matter connectivity and no HomeKit support. This is the only reason I took away a star since Matter would greatly increase compatibility with various devices. Daily use: The device has keys in the event of battery failure. You can also connect a power supply to the bottom of the external side to a power bank via a USB-C connection if needed, though the app should warn you prior to battery drainage. The app does routinely show the battery percentage with the 4 AA batteries. You can control the lock status, create a one-time PIN code, change PIN codes, set smart routines, control device sharing, and much more. One advanced feature I very much liked is the ability to scramble your PIN. For example, if your pin is 1111, you can enter it as 195371111837 and it will recognize the “1111” in the middle. This is to deter anyone who might be observing from remembering the code.

A more than adequate smart lock for most people

This wifi-connected deadbolt replacement has almost all of the features most people would want in a smart door lock. It’s easy to install, comes with physical keys, has physical keypad buttons, and the app supports multiple entry codes that can be either permanent, or enabled on a schedule. The app allows you to operate the lock from anywhere you have an internet connection. The lock and unlock response times are almost instantaneous. You can also view an event log to see which user-assigned code was used and when. After about a month of use, the battery level is still at 100%. The only “missing” features that might be important to some people are: 1. There’s no sensor to sense if the door is closed or ajar. 2. There’s no geofencing ability, so you can’t get the lock to automatically unlock for you as you approach it. 3. You can’t control the lock programmatically (e.g., no support for IFTTT). Installation note: The installation diagram shows that you need a minimum of 2.563 inch between the center of the deadbolt hole and the top of the exterior latch faceplate that’s usually located below the deadbolt. That is not the actual requirement. My exterior latch faceplate is only about 2.25 inches below the center of the deadbolt hole, and I still have about an inch of clearance between the top of the exterior latch faceplate and the bottom of the smart lock exterior faceplate. So the actual requirement should be about 1.25 inch instead of 2.563 inch.

I picked up the TP Link DL100 Tapo Door Lock to replace an existing smart lock for my basement exterior door. This review is based on a week of use and the improvements observed over previous generations of smart locks. TLDR - Great smart lock, I highly recommend over one with a screen and/or fingerprint sensor for outdoor use. Easy to install, easy to use, multiple methods to unlock. Pros:  Installation is easy Unlock with key, door code, app, Bluetooth, or voice App is easy to use, pin creation and management is quick and straightforward Integration with Kasa (TP Link) smart light switches Integration with camera, vacuums, and voice assistant for full smart home automation Physical keys as backup if you let the batteries die Cons: Relies on 4x"AA" batteries, means you'll need to remember to change them periodically Wiring routing channel doesn't take up the full amount of the wiring connector, feels like you could pinch it when installing the back (internal) side In the box is the door lock, mounting plate, bold, striker plate, batteries, installation hardware, keys, and a quick start guide. If you already have an existing door lock and separate deadbolt, this should be easy to set up. Make sure to measure first and ensure the door thickness, and distance from edge of door will work with the lock.  I installed this to replace an existing smart lock, so it was a straight forward plug and play. I didn't have to change the strike plate or make any adjustments to the existing holes.  To install, once you have removed the old hardware, run the bolt, and set the keypad side against the door, though the bolt. There are included guides to ensure the correct alignment and spacing, but you can also eyeball it, which is what I did. After the bolt and keypad are installed, run the connector wire through the interior side mounting plate, use the 2 included screws to mount the plate into the exterior keypad side of the lock. Note that I didn't love the wiring relief channel, it felt like I was going to pinch the wires, but ultimately it went together and I didn't see any pinches or twists to the connector cable. Lastly, plug in connector to the interior side, match up to the mounting plate, secure in place with the included screws, and install the batteries. If you need to change the strike plate, this is the time to do it, ensuring the lock mates up correctly.  Once physically installed, download the Tapo app. I already had the Kasa app for TP light switches, unfortunately it's not backwards compatible, so I had to install the app. The nice thing is that Tapo was quick and easy to find the smart lock and run through setup. It also pulled in my existing Kasa switches, so no additional setup was required. I am running my setup from wifi, but you can also use Bluetooth, or home automation with an assistant device, depending on need. One thing I do love is that this lock does not require a nearby wireless dongle (and therefore power outlet), which was a requirement on my older style smart lock.  Features that make this 5/5 stars are that the physical keypad buttons are easy, you can set your pin through the app, as well as share the app and admin controls with others. The app allows for a quick tap to create a one time pin, good for house sitters, maintenance, etc. You can also schedule when to accept both the routine pin as well as the temporary pin. This is a great peace of mind feature that no one can access overnight or when away, if you set the schedule as such. There is also an event log, you can see who locked the door, what pin was used, and if it was a manual lock or app controlled. The app will also show status, battery life, allow you to create automation / shortcuts, and see the status of all integrated devices, pending need.   Bottom line, I love the features, ease of install, and how much better this works over my older smart lock. The keypad itself feels rugged and that it will withstand exterior conditions. The app gives me peace of mind while being easy to use, add / change pins, monitor access, and provide automation. I also appreciate the integration with Kasa, as these are my favorite switches, and the seamless import of those lights was an added bonus.

Great smart deadbolt lock. It came in a small box with everything you need to install it. One thing I would recommend is check their website first to see if it will fit your door, they have some compatibility measurements there. It came with the keypad (backlit), the lock and the inside mechanism. They also include 4 AA batteries to use it (I think this is great, as custom, rechargeable batteries seem more convenient, but if they fail or die you have to buy them, being AA batteries you can buy a bunch cheap or, like me, have rechargeable ones on the go). Installing it was easy, they include a some inserts to measure up your door hole and see where is going to fit exactly. Mine was the 60mm one and fit perfectly. First I removed my existing one and I was ready to go. The instructions booklet is super clear and easy to understand. I had the lock installed in about 30 mins (with some breaks here and there). Inserted the batteries and then went through the setup in their TAPO app. You must use it to fully customize the lock. The app has many features. You can assign different PINs (for family members in example) and you can have a "masked" one, like it has more numbers than your real PIN, this is for when, lets say you have someone next to you peeking in trying to see your PIN, they will see more numbers than it really is. You can have the app auto lock it if there are several wrong PIN attempts. Of course, you can also enable the lock through your Wifi network for better control and management. You can lock/unlock it that way via the app or also via bluetooth (you have to be close by). You can also use voice+Pin. If all that fails or if your batteries are dead they also include two physical keys. By the way, if you don't have any spare batteries around and it dies, it also has a type C port where you can attach a power bank to power it up temporarily. If you have it enabled through your network you can use the app to set it to auto lock after certain amount of time. The keypad is backlit so you can see it a night and it also has a doorbell button so it it can ring your doorbell (if you don't have doorbell already or maybe have both). The only con I see is that it doesn't have any biometric way to unlock (like a fingerprint reader), however some people may prefer this, just pointing that out. It feels very sturdy (at least even better than my original "dumb" one). If you want an inexpensive secure and easy to use smart lock, this is it!

The lock works great, I have been using for about a week or so and I have no complaints. It is a very convenient lock that makes access a breeze. BUILD The design is very simple and easy to use. The build quality does seem a little on the cheap side, it has a very plastic feel and has some flex to it. I wish it was built a little more durable. INSTALL The installation was as easy as installing a regular door lock, I didn't find it to be any more difficult. Connecting it to the WIFI and setting it up on the APP was also pretty seamless. I was able to add the lock and go to the settings to finish the setup. APP The app allows for adding entry codes and users. There are plenty of settings to tinker with in order to personalize it to your needs. The app is pretty intuitive as to the layout, very simple navigation. You can also add a doorbell chime because the device has an optional doorbell built-in but the internal speaker is very low. FUNTIONALITY It can be locked or unlocked via the app and your phone OR you can sue the keypad and your unique code OR you can use the supplied key for entry. It has enough options for all particular tastes. OVERALL a pretty decent deadbolt- i wish it did come with a matching black deadbolt striking plate.

Well this is something that I have always wanted to do, small project to install one of these. I decided to do it on an interior door first, before using this on an exterior door leading directly into the house. So I decided to install this on my before door, and add it as a stand alone lock to sit aside my current room door lock. I bought a door lock install kit, which is only about $5 to buy new. They are everywhere, so do your research. There is an instruction paper in the kit, but I just did not use it. You'll need some tools to install this, but again...the install kit I bought has it all. You will need a drill, and a vacuum. That's pretty much it, and you can do this. It might sound crazy, but I am not a handy man. But I think anyone can do this. The lock is very nice after it's installed, and easy to setup. There is an app, and once installed it will do the rest. I can now lock and unlock my door from anywhere, even when I'm away from the house. I highly recommend this lock. I'm still not sold on having this on my front or back door, buy maybe I'll put another one on the garage entrance. I love it.

Love it. The ONLY thing I wish it had capability to do is schedule an automatic Unlock. You can only schedule times that you would like to shut off the automatic Lock function. I bought it hoping that I'd be able to Schedule a 5:30am unlock each day (for an individual who is not allowed to own a key to a certain property). But I still have to wake up and hit unlock from my phone and disable the automatic lock for a longer period of time than the normal 5min I have it set to in order to ensure that the individual is allowed inside at 5:30am every day. It's a SMALL inconvenience. I absolutely love everything else about it. It has only gone through 3% battery in the month or so that I've had it. No issues so far. For the price, I highly recommend.

I’ve owned at least 10 electronic door locks, all of them name brand, and these Tapo locks are hands down my favorite. Last year, I got the Tapo fingerprint lock with a rechargeable battery and built-in doorbell, and it’s been nothing short of perfect. In fact, I’m still running on the initial charge, and it’s installed on my front door. This newer lock is very similar, except it uses standard replaceable batteries and doesn’t include the built-in doorbell. The installation was just as simple as with my first Tapo lock, and pairing it with the app was nearly effortless; which is generally the issue I experience with other electronic door locks. The app is straightforward and easy to use. It gives you access to features like door lock history, code sharing, auto-lock, remote locking, and app notifications. You can even set up automation logic, like “when the door unlocks, turn on the lights.” This lock has physical raised buttons, which I strongly prefer over touchscreens. If I could change one thing about my other Tapo lock, it would be the buttons, because actual buttons are just easier and more reliable when you’re unlocking a door. I can’t say enough good things about this lock, or this brand. It checks every box for what I want in a smart lock, and there’s nothing I feel is missing. I always recommend this brand to anyone who asks me about electronic locks.
